Abstract

This study compares the growth of two seaweed species, Kappaphycus striatus and Kappaphycus alvarezii (green variety), using the longline method in the waters of Pelakak Village, Lingga Regency. This research aims to identify differences in daily growth rates and environmental factors affecting the productivity of both seaweed species. The study was conducted over 45 days using a randomized block design with two treatments and four replications. Measured parameters included absolute weight growth, specific growth rate, and water quality. The results showed that K. alvarezii (green variety) exhibited a higher daily growth rate (0.55% weight/day) compared to K. striatus (0.31% weight/day). Environmental factors such as temperature (28–30°C), salinity (30–31 ppt), and pH (7.1–7.4) were within the optimal range, but the current velocity (0.4–0.5 m/s), which exceeded the standard, potentially inhibited growth an increased the risk of talus damage. The t-student test indicated no significant difference in growth between the two seaweed species (p>0.05). These findings suggest that K. alvarezii (green variety) is more adaptive to local environmental conditions than K. striatus, although current velocity and pest presence remain challenges in seaweed cultivation. This study contributes to optimizing seaweed farming strategies in coastal areas. Keywords: Growth; Kappaphycus striatus; Kappaphycus alvarezii Green Variety; Longline

Abstract

The clean-up movement, involving students and the campus community, is a crucial effort to foster environmental awareness and concern at Sunan Giri University, Surabaya. The program utilizes the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, ensuring direct involvement of all participants, from identifying problems and planning activities to implementing the clean-up, to conducting joint evaluations. The problems encountered in the field were quite diverse, including accumulated trash, unmanaged weeds, clogged drains, and a lack of understanding of proper waste management. Activities included campus cleaning, waste sorting, weed removal, landscaping and green space development, and providing education on the importance of environmental protection. Results demonstrated increased participant awareness and behavioral changes toward more environmentally responsible behavior. In addition to creating a cleaner and more organized campus, the program also strengthened collaboration between students and the community as a form of ongoing service. Therefore, this clean-up movement has proven effective in fostering empowerment and building a culture of environmental awareness within the university.

Abstract

The issue of environmental cleanliness is still a serious concern, especially considering the fact that the culture of environmental care among students and globally is still relatively low. It is unfortunate, even though students actually have knowledge about the importance of preserving nature, but in their daily practice it still seems less than optimal. To overcome this problem, this article aims to analyze the implementation of the environmental cleanup program as an effort to build an eco-care culture, especially among students through the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach. This method was chosen because it is participatory by emphasizing the mapping of internal campus assets, such as optimizing existing student potential and then developing it through field observation, documentation, and participatory reflection. The program implemented includes environmental cleaning activities and greening the campus area as well as collaboration with all elements of society as a form of service to the surrounding community. The results of this program show an increase in student participation in environmental cleanup actions, marked by more consistent involvement in routine activities and increased student initiatives in maintaining the cleanliness of the campus area. Observations and reflections indicate a shift in student attitudes, from simply understanding the concept of environmental awareness to more responsible, pro-environmental behavior. This program also strengthens collective awareness that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility. These findings emphasize that fostering ecological practices, collaboration among students, and institutional support play a crucial role in fostering a sustainable culture of environmental awareness. This article also recommends developing similar, more participatory, long-term programs that strengthen students' role as agents of change on environmental issues.

Abstract

This literature study aims to critically analyze the fulfillment of rights, provision of reasonable accommodation, and the inclusiveness of rehabilitation programs for persons with disabilities in Indonesian correctional institutions. Employing a qualitative normative legal research method, this study examines international conventions, national legislation, and empirical reports. The findings reveal a significant normative-progressive yet implementative-deficient landscape. Indonesia has established a strong legal framework through the ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the enactment of Law Number 8 of 2016 concerning Persons with Disabilities, which mandate non-discrimination and reasonable accommodation. However, the factual conditions in prisons are starkly different. Physical facilities largely remain inaccessible, health and social services are not inclusively designed, and rehabilitation programs fail to accommodate specific needs, thereby perpetuating discrimination and hindering effective social reintegration. The study concludes that without translating legal mandates into detailed operational standards, adequate budgeting, and comprehensive training for correctional staff, the rights of incarcerated persons with disabilities will remain unrealized. It recommends the urgent development of a standardized service protocol, enhanced independent monitoring, and strategic partnerships to foster inclusive correctional practices.

Abstract

This literature study examines the effectiveness of Legal Aid Institutions (LBH) in providing legal assistance from the investigation phase to trial in Indonesia's criminal justice process. Employing a normative-analytical method, the research analyzes primary legal frameworks, including the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) and the Legal Aid Law. The findings indicate that LBH possess a strong legal mandate to act as guardians of suspect/defendant procedural rights and as overseers of due process. Their effectiveness is evident in preventing procedural violations, filing pre-trial motions, and ensuring a balanced defense in court. However, this operational effectiveness is significantly constrained by profound structural and financial challenges. Chronic underfunding, disproportionate caseloads, reliance on unstable external grants, and a shortage of qualified legal personnel severely limit LBH capacity. These constraints lead to fragmented assistance, high staff turnover, and an inability to engage in strategic litigation. Furthermore, institutional resistance from law enforcement agencies, despite clear legal provisions, creates an adversarial environment that drains LBH resources. The study concludes that while the normative foundation for effective legal aid is robust, its realization is fundamentally hampered by systemic resource deficiencies and operational hurdles. The gap between law and practice underscores the need for sustainable funding models, enhanced institutional capacity, and improved synergy between LBH and state apparatus to truly actualize the right to legal counsel as a pillar of a fair trial.

Abstract

This normative legal study examines the practice of wiretapping as evidence in proving corruption crimes in Indonesia, focusing on proof standards and privacy protection. The research aims to analyze the lawful procedural standards for wiretapping, the position and probative value of wiretapping results as electronic evidence in court, and potential legal disputes arising from its implementation. The study employs a qualitative literature review method, analyzing primary legal materials such as the Corruption Eradication Commission Law, the Electronic Information and Transaction Law, the Criminal Procedure Code, and relevant Constitutional Court decisions. The findings indicate that wiretapping's legality is based on a complex regulatory interaction, requiring strict adherence to procedural standards including a clear legal basis, authority from competent institutions, supervision mechanisms, and proportionality principles. The position of wiretapping results as evidence is recognized under electronic evidence provisions, yet its probative strength is contingent upon factors of legality, integrity, relevance, and adherence to due process. Potential legal disputes encompass challenges to authority, procedural violations, constitutional rights infringements, and technical authenticity, each carrying significant implications for the admissibility of evidence. The study concludes that while wiretapping is a potent tool against corruption, its application must rigorously balance law enforcement objectives with fundamental rights protections within Indonesia's rule of law framework.

Abstract

This literature study aims to reconstruct the class action lawsuit as an effective private enforcement instrument in addressing counterfeit products that endanger consumer safety. Employing a qualitative normative juridical method with content analysis techniques, this research examines secondary data from legislation, legal literature, and judicial practices. The findings indicate that the theoretical construction of class action requires a paradigm shift from mere procedural efficiency to an active private enforcement mechanism prioritizing consumer safety. Normative and procedural critical points, particularly in proving collective causation and calculating latent damages, can be overcome through risk-based evidence, a redefinition of commonality, and a differentiated compensation scheme. An effective enforcement design must integrate a court-supervised collective compensation fund, specific execution of injunctive relief such as mandatory recalls, the application of disgorgement of profits and coercive fines (astreinte), and robust post-judgment monitoring. This study concludes that a comprehensively redesigned class action mechanism, synchronized with consumer protection law and coordinated with public enforcement, can simultaneously achieve restorative justice for victims and optimal deterrence for violators. This reconstruction enriches civil procedure theory and offers practical guidance for judges, legislators, and consumer advocates in combating the circulation of hazardous counterfeit goods.

Abstract

Previous studies have shown that playing with Lego is significantly associated with mental rotation ability in children. This study aimed to examine the effect of block construction play on mental rotation ability in young adults. The study employed a quantitative experimental approach using a non-randomized pre-test post-test control group design. The participants were 30 young adults, divided into 15 individuals in the experimental group and 15 in the control group, all with low to moderate mental rotation ability. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. Mental rotation ability was measured using a mental rotation task. Data were analyzed using the Mann-WhitneyU test to compare scores between groups and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to compare pre-test and post-test scores within each group. The results showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups at post-test (p = 0.009 < 0.05). In addition, the experimental group showed a significant improvement (p = 0.002 < 0.05), while the control group showed no significant change (p = 0.189 > 0.05). These findings indicate that block construction play has a positive effect on improving mental rotation ability in young adults with characteristics similar to those of the study participants.

Abstract

The Afvoer Kemambang River Cleanup program aims to analyze the implementation of river conservation programs as a strategy to increase community responsibility for environmental sustainability in Waru District, Sidoarjo. The river previously experienced blockages due to garbage accumulation and the growth of water hyacinth, indicating low public awareness of environmental cleanliness. This activity involved residents in concrete actions that improved the river ecosystem while providing a positive example for the wider community. The Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach was applied to involve the community from planning, coordination, and implementation of the activity. The activity began with a general briefing and division of tasks, followed by cleaning the river flow and removing garbage from the riverbanks. The results showed increased environmental awareness, social solidarity, and a sense of responsibility from residents towards nature conservation. It is recommended to expand this program to other areas with greater participant involvement and government support to ensure sustainable river conservation. Community participation has been proven to improve river conditions and foster a culture of sustainable environmental care, making this program a replicable model for community empowerment in other regions.
