Abstract

The background of research at Bunayya Islamic Kindergarten is that there are still many children in the B1 group whose science skills are still lacking. Children are less motivated to discover new facts, explore and tackle discovered problems. Therefore, through experimental methods, scientific balloons can improve children's science skills in cognitive development. The formulation of the problem in this study is "Whether through the experimental method scientific balloons can improve science skills in group B1 children of Bunayya Islamic Kindergarten " Research at Bunayya Islamic Kindergarten includes a type of classroom action research using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques by summing, looking for the average value, midpoint and percentage so that the flow of thinking has been read through a table that describes the results of the assessment achieved by children. The object of research was 17 children in group B1 of Bunayya Islamic Kindergarten. Based on the results of research in the first cycle, the average number of grade grades of 838 and 49 was categorized as Starting to Develop with the percentage of children who obtained Developing as Expected scores of around 47% and Starting to Develop scores of around 53%. In cycle II, the average number of grade grades of 1053 and 62 was categorized as Developing as Expected with the percentage of children who obtained Very Good Development scores of around 12% and Developing as Expected scores of around 88%. From these results, it can be concluded that the scientific balloon experimental method improves science skills in group B1 children of Bunayya Samarinda Islamic Kindergarten.

Abstract

Parents play a crucial role in shaping the character of their children, and the character of children is closely tied to the involvement of both parents. This study aims to examine how parents function as educators, motivators, role models, controllers, and providers (facilitators) in cultivating character values, discipline, and responsibility in children. The research was conducted using qualitative methods with a sequential and phenomenological approach. Photovoice, combined with thematic analysis, served as the type and source of data. Data collection involved interviews and observations, with six pairs of parents with 5-6-year-old children participating in the study. The analysis revealed that parents, through their various roles, internalize the development of independent, disciplined, and responsible character values in their children. The study concludes that children aged 5-6 exhibit character values learned through a process of observation and imitation. Future research is encouraged to utilize these findings as a reference for instilling character values in children. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to outline the role that educators play as well as the challenges that children face when learning disciplinary character. A qualitative descriptive approach is the research methodology employed. Teachers and students in Group B1 provided the data sources for this study. In order to learn more about the role of teachers in the discipline character education of Group B1 students, data collection methods and tools were acquired through observations and interviews. Photographs and documents were utilized as supporting documentation in the study. Three triangulation techniques source triangulation, technique triangulation, and time triangulation were employed to assess the validity of the research data. The study's findings show that by using various instructional strategies that encourage active student participation, teachers can significantly contribute to the discipline development of their students. Teachers continue to work to establish a supportive learning environment that aids in the development of children's disciplinary character in spite of a number of obstacles. Thus, it is crucial that educational institutions give instructors the assistance they need to carry out this responsibility more successfully and to assist kids in forming moral character at a young age

Abstract

Abstract

This study explored the perceptions of pre-service EFL students regarding the role of drama play in enhancing their speaking fluency. Speaking fluency is a critical skill for Indonesian EFL learners, particularly for those preparing to be educators. Despite the integration of drama-based learning in language education many existing methods focus on memorization and scripted dialogues, which may not adequately foster spontaneous speaking skills. This study uses a qualitative phenomenological approach and collects data using semi-structured interviews and journals from pre-service teachers in Samarinda. The study found that drama play significantly enhanced students’ confidence, vocabulary, and pronunciation. However, while scripted drama enhances structured speech fluency, they did not significantly improve students' ability to engage in spontaneous conversations. In contrast, improvisational elements of drama play were perceived as more effective in promoting real-time communicative competence. This study highlights the need for a balanced approach that integrates both scripted and unscripted drama techniques to optimize speaking fluency in EFL education. These findings provide valuable insights for educators and curriculum developers focused on developing strategies to improve learners’ communicative skills in English.

Abstract

This study investigates students' learning styles in the Speaking Course at the English Department of Widya Gama Mahakam University, Samarinda. The research aimed to identify problems faced by students when using their learning styles and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of different learning styles in speaking development. The study employed a qualitative case study design with six purposively selected fourth-semester students representing visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis with theory triangulation for validation. For thematic analysis, we followed Braun and Clarke's six-phase framework, and for the theory triangulation, applied Fleming's VARK model. The findings revealed distinct learning style preferences that significantly influenced speaking course. Visual learners demonstrated strong preparation and organizational skills but struggled with spontaneous conversations and real-time communication. Auditory learners showed excellent listening abilities and natural speaking fluency but faced challenges with written preparation and environmental distractions. Kinesthetic learners excelled in interactive activities and experiential learning but encountered difficulties in traditional classroom settings and abstract discussions. Each learning style group faced specific challenges: visual learners experienced anxiety in unstructured speaking situations and over-dependence on visual supports; auditory learners struggled with spelling and written organization; kinesthetic learners had difficulties with sedentary learning environments. Despite their strengths, each learning style demonstrated notable limitations in comprehensive speaking development. The research contributes to understanding the relationship between learning styles and speaking skill acquisition in EFL contexts. The result is that while learning style preferences should be accommodated, students need multimodal learning strategies to overcome single-modality limitations
