Abstract

Quality of life refers to a broad concept that describes life satisfaction in terms of culture, value, and life experiences which are used to explain someone’s life aspect in general or specifically in relation to a particular condition, such as being overweight or obese. Obesity causes many health problems and affects the overall quality of life. As the obesity rate continues to be a growing public health problem in Indonesian adolescents, examining the perceptions regarding their weight is fundamental for planning a proper intervention. However, there has been little reported of available weight-specific instruments that measure the QoL in Indonesia. Youth Quality of Life-Weight (YQOL-W) is a multicultural measurement of QoL-weight that was specifically recommended by previous researchers to measure the QoL of adolescents with obesity and overweight conditions. This study was conducted to evaluate the psychometric properties of the adapted YQOL-W instrument for Indonesian adolescents. Twenty-one items were administered to 880 adolescents between 11 and 18 years of age, of whom 54.55% were female and 71.14% were junior high school students. Data were collected with a convenience sampling technique. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that a three-factor model had an acceptable model fit, including a Self factor (4 items), Social factor (12 items), and Environment factor (5 items) with p < .05. The YQOL-W instrument had good internal consistency reliability with Cronbach’s alpha ranging from .87 to .95 and acceptable test-retest reliability with the intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) all greater than .70. The one-factor and three-factor scores were negatively correlated with BMI and positively correlated with PedsQL (all at p < .01 level). In conclusion, the Indonesian version of the YQOL-W shows good reliability and validity for assessing the weight-specific QoL of adolescents in Indonesia.

Abstract

Adolescence who live in orphanages faced adversity in their life who are different from adolescence in general. They are required to be able to overcome the problems on their own without parents. The inability to overcome these problems can increase the risk of stress and prone to emotional problems. This study aims to determine the relationship between perceived social support and problem-focused coping on the level of resilience of adolescence in Bandung orphanages. The population of this study was adolescence who lives in Bandung orphanages. Respondents in this study were 70 adolescents aged 15-17 using purposive sampling technique. Two-stage clusters method used for determining the sample of the orphanage. The scales used in this study are Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Brief-COPE), and 14-item Resilience Scale (RS-14). Respondents filled out the questionnaires with a paper and pencil test in their orphanages. The data analysis using descriptive analysis and multiple regression analysis. The results of data analysis showed that perceived social support and problem-focused coping together affect resilience of 41% with the strength of the relationship at moderate level. The regression coefficient values for perceived social support variable (4,051) and problem-focused coping variable (1,162). This showed that perceived social support more influence than problem-focused coping on adolescence resilience.

Abstract

Abstract

Neurodevelopmental Disorder (NDD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder related to the functioning of the nervous system and brain. Parents of children with NDD experience increased stress in managing various daily chores and activities such as feeding, autonomy, leisure, and schooling of the child. However, some parents cope very well and derive great benefits from their parenting role. Several studies have found a variety of benefits for parents while caring for their children. Caregivers who reported positive aspects had better health, fewer depressive symptoms, higher parenting competence and greater family adjustment. This study is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach that aims to find out the positive aspects that parents feel while caring for children with a diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorder. Parents with children diagnosed with NDD (N=3) underwent a semi-structured interview process after agreeing to informed consent. The results of the study showed that the positive aspects experienced by parents during parenting were feeling the child as a source of happiness, receiving support from the community, and increased spirituality

Abstract

Children are a crucial population requiring COVID-19 vaccination. With the global rollout of COVID-19 vaccines, the increasing number of unvaccinated children and adolescents has raised concerns. To was translated, adapted, and validate the Health Belief Model instrument for parents of children aged 6–11 years regarding COVID-19 vaccination in the Indonesian language. Cross-cultural translation and adaptation were conducted according to international standards. The instrument testing process, according to Beaton et al., (2020), involves five stages: forward translation, synthesis of the translation results, back translation, review of the back translation, and readability testing. Respondents were purposively selected from the parents of children aged 6–11 years. Face and content validity were achieved for the Indonesian version of Health Belief Model for parents of children aged 6–11 years. The validity of each statement item was assessed using Pearson Correlation with a significance level of 0.05 and 193 respondents, resulting in an r table value of 0.1406. The constructs within the Health Belief Model were deemed valid based on the Pearson Correlation values, as the coefficient values were greater than the r-table value (r > 0.1406; p < 0.05). The constructs in the Health Belief Model were also reliable, with a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.657. The culturally adapted Indonesian version of the Health Belief Model instrument for parents of children aged 6–11 years regarding COVID-19 vaccination is considered valid and reliable for use in research among the parent population of children aged 6–11 years in the context of COVID-19 vaccination.

Abstract

Remaja menghadapi banyak tantangan selama masa transisi menuju dewasa. The Resiliency Scale for Young Adults (RSYA). Adolescents face many challenges during the transition to adulthood. It takes personal resiliency to help adolescents thrive despite the difficulties they faced. To find out how early adults developed resilience capabilities, a valid and reliable measuring instrument is needed. Therefore, this study aims to test the construct validity of The Resiliency Scale for Young Adults (RSYA). The data was obtained from 279 early adult population aged 18 ─ 25 years with the majority being female, with an average age of 21 years. Participants generally have a minimum high school/vocational education background, therefore, most of them are currently college students with an average monthly expenditure of less than Rp1,000,000. Regional origins of participants vary from all over Indonesia, with more than half coming from West Java Province. The analysis method used was Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The test results proved that the RSYA model met the fit criteria and was proven to be reliable (α = 0.931) with a conformity index of RMSEA=0.079, Standardized RMR=0.078, CFI=0.91, and IFI=0.91. The convergent-discriminants validity was tested using DASS (Depression Anxiety Stress Scale) and SWLS (Satisfaction with Life Scale) instruments with the results that two protective factors (sense of mastery and sense of relatedness) correlated negatively with DASS and positively with SWLS. In contrast, risk factors (emotional reactivity) correlate positively with DASS and negatively with SWLS. This study shows Indonesian version of RSYA is valid and reliable for measuring resilience in early populations in Indonesia.

Abstract

Pengukuran dilakukan menggunakan Professional Quality of Life Scale Version 5 (ProQoL-5), The Brief Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced (COPE) Inventory, dan Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Analisis regresi linier berganda menggunakan IBM SPSS Statistics 25 menunjukkan emotional-focused coping, problem-focused coping, dysfunctional coping, dan dukungan sosial bersama-sama memprediksi compassion fatigue sebesar 23,3%. Dysfunctional coping ditemukan signifikan memprediksi compassion fatigue.
