Abstract

This study addresses a notable gap in linguistic landscape research by focusing on the language variations displayed on trucks in South Sulawesi, a mobile medium of public text that has received limited scholarly attention. The research data was obtained through observation and documentation of trucks in several areas in South Sulawesi. It was found that there are 21 data which consists of Indonesian, local languages, and foreign languages. The collected data then qualitatively analyzed using content analysis techniques. The data obtained from observation and interviews were processed and thematically analyzed to explore patterns of language and cultural usage on trucks in South Sulawesi. The findings reveal that language choices align closely with socio-economic environments, where Indonesian is predominantly used in urban areas, local languages are more common in rural settings, and bilingual expressions often appear in suburban zones. These inscriptions are not only functional but also serve as markers of identity, cultural pride, and modern sensibilities, especially among younger drivers influenced by global media and popular culture. This research contributes to the broader discourse on linguistic landscapes by introducing the concept of vehicular language as a dynamic site of cultural negotiation. The insights gained have implications for sociolinguistic studies, cultural identity research, and creative industries seeking to understand how language, space, and mobility interact within Indonesia’s complex linguistic ecosystem.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has revolutionized the dissemination of Islamic da’wah (proselytizing), necessitating young generations, particularly university students, to become adaptive and creative agents of da’wah utilizing digital media. However, limitations in technical skills and low levels of digital literacy and communication ethics remain serious challenges. This community service activity aimed to enhance the capacity of students in producing digital da’wah content that is informative, engaging, and consistent with the principles of moderate Islamic da’wah. The training program was conducted over three days using a participatory approach, covering digital literacy, content production techniques, and Islamic communication ethics. Evaluation results showed a significant increase in participants’ understanding, rising from an average score of 58.3 in the pre-test to 84.1 in the post-test, with an N-Gain score of 61.8%. Furthermore, 87% of participants successfully produced da’wah content in video format, and 73% of them established dedicated social media accounts to disseminate their da’wah content. This training proved effective in transforming students’ roles from passive consumers into active creators of digital da’wah.

Abstract

Kakawin is a traditional literary work that belongs to the sekar agung category, which has characteristics and traits distinct from sekar madya and sekar alit. Kakawin is marked by the presence of guru and laghu in each of its meters. Guru and laghu are the guidelines that must be followed by anyone performing or reading a kakawin literary work. Guru refers to a word or syllable that undergoes a change during its performance. These changes can include elongation, a shift from low to high pitch or vice versa, or a change in emphasis from loud to soft or the opposite. In short, guru is always marked by a change in sound. On the other hand, laghu does not experience a change in sound during its performance. The sounds and their accompanying elements, such as guru and laghu, are studied using phonological theory. Research findings show that there are several forms of characters used to write kakawin as markers of guru and laghu.
