Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Chronic malnutrition or stunting is still a public health problem in Indonesia. Exclusive breastfeeding known as one of major factors that could prevent stunting. Based on Theory of Planned Behavior, a good knowledge could drive a good health behavior, in this matter is to implement exclusive breastfeeding. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the difference level of nutrition knowledge and exclusive breastfeeding practice between urban and rural mothers in correlation with stunting among under-five children in Sidoarjo district, East Java. Methods: This was a quantitative, cross-sectional study employed 111 mothers. Respondents were randomly selected proportionally from 4 villages at Candi sub-district; 2 villages represent urban area (Larangan and Kebonsari) and another two represents rural area (Kedungpeluk and Kalipecabean). Knowledge related to exclusive breastfeeding measured using 20 self-developed close-ended questions, exclusive breastfeeding practice measured by interview, while stunting was measured based on Height-for-Age Z-score (HAZ) based on length/height measurement using SECA length board/stadiometer. Data then analyzed using Chi-Square Test (α<0,05).  Results: This study reveals stunting prevalence was 18.0%, lower than national prevalence. Interesting result we found is that stunting prevalence was significantly higher in urban compared to rural children (29.4% VS 8.3%, respectively) (P-value = 0.006; OR = 4.5; 95% CI 1.53 – 13.7). Mean score of knowledge was 64.1 + 16.2 or moderate knowledge. Furthermore, we did not find any correlation between nutrition knowledge and stunting both in urban and rural area (p>0.05); however, we found a significant correlation between knowledge and breastfeeding practice (p=0.045) in which those who are having good knowledge also have better exclusive breastfeeding practice (OR = 2.1; 95% CI 1.83 – 5.4). Conclusions: Nutrition knowledge is more correlated to exclusive breastfeeding rather than stunting. Higher stunting in urban might be precipitate by lower exclusive breastfeeding in urban population. More campaign on exclusive breastfeeding practice should be massively done among mothers in urban area.

Abstract

Work productivity is a comparison between the results of work in the form of goods or services with the resources or labor used in a production process. The importance of adequate nutrition for general health and work productivity requires serious attention. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of adequacy of nutrient intake, hydration status, and level of fatigue with work productivity. This study is an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. The research population is the general engineering division workers of PT. PAL Indonesia (Persero). The sample size calculated using Lemeshow formula was obtained as many as 64 respondents. Primary data sourced from questionnaires and interviews with respondents as well as secondary data on work productivity. Data were analyzed using Chi-Square analysis. The results showed that there was a relationship between energy intake (p=0.010) and worker productivity. Iron intake was also associated with worker productivity (p=0.024). But there are no relationship between work productivity with hydration status (p=0.272) and level of fatigue (p=0.556). There is a relationship between energy and iron intake with work productivity, but there is no relationship between hydration status and fatigue level with work productivity. Researchers suggest for workers to consume variety of type and amount of food intake daily.

Abstract

Introduction : Colorectal cancer is a malignant tumor that grows in the colon tissue. In the Asian region, in 2018, cases and deaths from colorectal cancer are highest in East Asia (there were 736,573 cases and 325,128 of them died) and Southeast Asia (there were 95,223 cases and 52,475 of them died). Aims: Several studies have been conducted regarding the effect of a low-fiber diet and an increased risk of colorectal cancer, but it still shows mixed results. Methods: This study is an unobstrutive study with a systematic review and meta-analysis method. Data sources came from 14 primary studies with a case-control study design that met the inclusion criteria. Data analysis was performed using CMA software trial version 3.0 with a confidence level of α = 5%. Research with low-fiber diet variables shows heterogeneous variations in results so that the chosen model is random effect model. Result: The analysis states that there was a significant relationship between a low-fiber diet (CI: 0.421–0.867) and an increased risk of colorectal cancer due to the role of soluble and insoluble fiber. Lack of intake of soluble fiber can decrease insulin action and blood sugar control or the production of short-chain fatty acids, whereas insufficient intake of insoluble fiber can increase the potential for interactions between mutagens and colonic mucosa. Conclusion: The results of the study are expected to be an input for a proper diet so that there is no increase in cases of colorectal cancer.

Abstract

Background: The MAD in children has an important role in preventing the risk of undernutrition. MAD in children is often associated with MDD in mothers because the mother's consumption pattern continues to feed the child who is born. Objectives: This systematic review aims to examine the relationship between MDD in mothers and MAD in children, and its role in undernutrition prevention. Methods: Articles were selected using the PRISMA method. Articles were obtained from Sciencedirect, Medline, and Embase in the 2017-2022 timeframe without data restrictions. The vocabulary used in the search is "Maternal Dietary Diversity" and "Minimum Acceptable Diet", and undernutrition, and only researched articles in English. Table matriculation was carried out to obtain an overview of the relationship between MDD in mothers and children's MAD in undernutrition prevention. Discussion: Research from 7 selected studies was conducted in five developing countries with high levels of food insecurity. Samples were obtained of 167 to 10,291 children aged 6-59.9 months. Six studies indicate the level of food insecurity in the area studied. Four of the seven studies showed significant results between MDD in mothers with MAD and undernutrition in children. Conclusions: Maternal MDD has a significant role in MAD in children and can be one of the factors that influence undernutrition, especially in developing countries which are highly food insecure.

Abstract

COVID-19 has become a pandemic in the last 3 years worldwide and cases cause high mortality and morbidity. To reduce COVID-19 infection, we need to keep our immune system healthy. Several nutrients have been shown to have specific abilities to increase the power of the immune system, but their use in the treatment of COVID-19 is still being debated. This review aims to determine the role of minerals and synbiotics in increasing immunity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Specific minerals such as zinc, selenium, iron and copper have promising potential to treat COVID-19 by reducing clinical impact, markers of inflammation, and improving immunological biomarkers. In addition to increasing mineral intake, maintaining a healthy immune system can also be done by improving the health of the gut microbiota. One of the therapies that is considered to have a positive impact on handling COVID-19 is using synbiotics (a combination of prebiotics and probiotics). However, the safety and efficacy of mineral and synbiotic supplementation in COVID-19 patients as adjunctive therapy still requires further research. Minerals and synbiotics can help boost the immune system and reduce symptoms during a COVID-19 infection.

Abstract

The latest COVID-19 pandemic has taught the importance of nutrition and immunity to prevent diseases, in which case the fatality rate exceeded 2.58%. Immunity is believed to be one of the critical efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This is, for sure, inseparable from nutritional intake, exercise, and environmental factors. However, that needed to be better understood by many people. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of online-based nutrition education in increasing knowledge and self-efficacy to maintain a balanced nutritional intake and implement hygiene. Online-based nutrition education was done using video conference by Zoom conference and text-based education methods using Telegram. Each session is held for approximately two hours. Samples were all collected voluntarily, comprising an adult population aged 19 – 5 . Knowledge and self-efficacy were measured using a structured questionnaire. In total, 217 samples were recruited. 92.2% of participants were female, the average age was 29 ± 10.04, 34.1% worked as civil servants, and the majority, 52.1%, came from East Java. Education with the digital learning method succeeded in increasing nutritional knowledge from a score of 55.9 to 91.8 (p<0.000) and significantly increasing self-efficacy of consuming balanced-nutritious food and self-efficacy of a clean and healthy lifestyle (p<0.000). In conclusion, online-based nutrition education proved effective in increasing knowledge and self-efficacy. Hence, program duplication with a broader range of subjects can be done nationally.

Abstract

Background: DF patients require special nutritional care to accelerate recovery and provide adequate nutritional intake. DF is an infectious condition due to dengue virus accompanied by prodromal symptoms of headache, pain in various parts of the body, anorexia, chills and malaise. Standardized nutritional care is carried out by providing a high-calorie and high-protein diet to meet the nutritional needs of patients, prevent damage to body tissues, normalize white blood cell levels due to infection and control body weight. Objectives: Knowing the implementation of standardized nutritional care processes and the provision of high-calorie, high-protein diets in DF patients. Methods: The case study was conducted in November 2021 on inpatients at RS X in Sidoarjo. Sampling of the study was carried out by selecting patients according to the criteria for large cases that had been previously determined by hospital nutritionists and internship supervisors. The research sample was taken by looking at the patient's medical record with the approval of the nurse on duty and accompanied by a hospital nutritionist. The method used was observation for 3 days on the aspect of intake seen from 8 meals of food recall 24H and visual comstock, physical aspects with interviews, and biochemical aspects seen from the patient's medical record. Researchers also conducted a literature study to complete the required data. Results: After nutritional intervention, the patient's physical condition began to improve, indicated by the appetite that had started to normal and complaints of nausea and vomiting that were no longer there. The patient's food intake which has started to improve from day to day is indicated by having reached the target (>70%). However, on the last day of the intervention the intake did not reach the target (<70%) because the patient had been allowed to go home by the doctor in charge. Conclusion: In this case, the recovery of the patient's condition was quite fast. The patient's digestive system began to improve marked by the disappearance of complaints of nausea and vomiting so that the patient's intake also improved.
