Abstract

Low life satisfaction can lead to serious mental health problems, including depression and anxiety, which can negatively impact quality of life. This study aims to develop and validate an instrument from Diener that can be used to measure life satisfaction accurately and reliably using the Rasch Model approach. This research method involved 70 participants representing various backgrounds, both men and women. The collected data were analyzed using the Rasch Model to evaluate scale accuracy, validity, reliability, and undimensionality on the life satisfaction scale. The results of this study explain that out of 7 scale item choices, there are three item choices on the life satisfaction scale that are inappropriate, namely scales 3, 4 and 5 which do not have peaks. The validity and reliability results show that 5 items are valid and reliable with the results of the validity value meeting the validity and reliability criteria resulting in a Cronbach's alpha value obtained of 0.83 which means it is in the good category. Furthermore, the findings of the dimensional test tested with standardized residuals are known to have a value of 65.1%. Assuming these criteria are met, the life satisfaction instrument meets the 20% threshold for the unidimensionality test.

Abstract

Online counseling training based on Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for guidance and counseling teachers was conducted in response to the increasing phenomenon of online gambling addiction and aggressive behavior among adolescents. This phenomenon has become a serious concern in Payakumbuh City because it affects students' academic, psychological, and social aspects. This Community Service Program aims to improve the capacity of guidance and counseling teachers in understanding, internalizing, and applying the MBCT approach in school counseling services. The training was held on August 9, 2025, at the Payakumbuh City Education Office Hall, involving guidance and counseling teachers from various schools. The implementation method consisted of two stages, namely an introduction to online counseling for online gambling addiction and aggressive behavior in adolescents, as well as training in MBCT techniques through practical simulations and group discussions. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test instruments to measure participants' understanding and skills. The training results showed an increase in understanding from 52 percent to 91 percent and in skills from 48 percent to 88 percent. Participants also developed plans to implement MBCT in their respective schools and built a collaborative network among guidance counselors. These findings indicate that participatory training combining theory and practice is effective in strengthening the professional competence of guidance counselors. The MBCT approach is considered relevant as a strategy for preventing and intervening in risky adolescent behavior, especially when combined with online counseling technology that expands access to services in schools.

Abstract

Academic stress is commonly experienced by university students and is increasingly influenced by the dynamics of campus digitalization. This study aims to analyze the effect of academic social comparison and digital self-regulation on academic stress. The method used is a correlational quantitative approach with multiple regression on 256 university students selected through cluster random sampling. The instruments used are three five-point Likert scales. Data were collected online and analyzed through classical assumption tests and multiple regression. The results showed that the regression model was not significant (R² = 0.000; p = 0.975), with academic social comparison (p = 0.912) and digital self-regulation (p = 0.847) having no effect on academic stress. These findings differ from previous studies and suggest that other factors may be more dominant. The implications of this study emphasize the need for a multidimensional approach in understanding student stress and the development of more comprehensive and contextual counseling services.

Abstract

Abstract

The rapid development of digital platforms has transformed the landscape of counseling services in higher education, creating an urgent need to understand their acceptance, especially among Muslim university students in Indonesia. This study aimed to examine the influence of critical thinking and academic performance on technology acceptance in online counseling, with a focus on the mediating role of digital literacy. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected through purposive random sampling from 815 Muslim university students (49 % male; 51% female) at Universitas Negeri Padang and analyzed using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The study employed validated scales for critical thinking, academic performance, digital literacy, and technology acceptance, all of which showed high reliability (Cronbach’s alpha > 0.90). The findings supported the proposed hypotheses, showing that both critical thinking and academic performance significantly influenced digital literacy and technology acceptance. Digital literacy also acted as a significant mediator linking these variables to technology acceptance, confirming its central role in the model. These results underscore the importance of fostering digital competence and academic readiness in promoting effective adoption of online counseling services. The study highlights the need for culturally sensitive digital interventions that align with the ethical and spiritual values of Muslim university students.

Abstract

Academic stress can reduce academic performance in first-year university students. Based on theoretical studies and previous research, three factors are predicted to influence academic stress: academic self-efficacy, life satisfaction, and happiness. This study analyzes the correlation of academic self-efficacy, life satisfaction, and happiness with first-year university students' academic stress. This research uses a quantitative approach with correlational methods and path analysis. The participants in this research were 720 first-year university students in Indonesia. The research instruments used were the Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, Life Satisfaction Scale, Happiness Scale, and Academic Stress Scale. Research data was collected online and then analyzed using the partial-least squares-structural equation model (PLS-SEM) technique. The results of this study show that life satisfaction and happiness are negatively and significantly correlated with first-year university students' academic stress. Furthermore, this research shows that happiness is the most determinant factor for academic stress, so it acts as a mediator in the correlation of academic self-efficacy and life satisfaction with first-year university students' academic stress. These three factors must be considered to reduce first-year university students' academic stress.

Abstract

Parents’ Ability to Choose School reflects a complex decision-making process that goes beyond administrative considerations and involves social, cultural, economic, and environmental factors. This study aims to examine the effects of socio-cultural factors, economic conditions, and environmental conditions on parents’ Ability to School Choose, as well as to test the moderating role of socio-cultural factors. A quantitative explanatory design was employed with data collected from parents in Payakumbuh City, West Sumatra, using an online questionnaire. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling. The results indicate that sociocultural factors and environmental conditions have significant effects on parents’ ability to choose a school, while economic factors do not show a significant direct effect. Furthermore, sociocultural factors significantly moderate the relationship between environmental conditions and the ability to choose a school but do not moderate the relationship between economic factors and the ability to choose a school. These findings highlight the dominant role of the sociocultural context in shaping school choice decisions and underscore the importance of culturally sensitive educational policies.
