Abstract

Sexual harassment ranks first among the cases of sexual violence in educational institutions. The college has become one of the educational institutions with a high case rate. Given that sexual harassment can harm a person as it can have a physical, psychological, and social impact, it is necessary to prevent sexual abuse with personal safety skills consisting of recognize, resist, and report. One of the factors that influences the prevention of sexual harassment is knowledge. The aim of this study is to look at the relationship between knowledge and personal safety skills as behavioral efforts to prevent sexual harassment in students. This research is a quantitative analysis of the type of observational analytics with cross sectional design. Respondents to this study were active students of Airlangga University in the academic year 2023/2024 and a total of 420 respondents were obtained using accidental sampling method. The data collection uses questionnaires and is processed with Spearman's analysis that shows the strength of the relationship. The results show a very strong relationshiip (r=0.824) between knowledge and personal safety skills as an attempt to prevent sexual harassment in students. It is hoped that the campus will maximize its efforts to prevent sexual harassment by increasing the knowledge of students and citizens of the campus about sexual abuse, facilitating training in personal safety or self-care skills, expanding media information and access services for reporting sexual assault, as well as monitoring and periodically evaluating programmes that have been conducted in the campus area.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia ranks 4th in violence cases and 2nd in bullying cases worldwide, following Japan. Bullying, increasingly common in school environments, has become a public health issue. Alarmingly, bullying incidents have infiltrated even morally-focused educational settings like Islamic boarding schools. This necessitates effective interventions to raise awareness and curb bullying. The interactive edutainment game "Find Friends," designed for group play, holds promise as a tool to build awareness and encourage positive behavior change in a fun, engaging manner. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the "Find Friends" game in increasing anti-bullying awareness among students at an Islamic boarding school and promoting positive behavioral changes. Methods: A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was used in this intervention study, conducted in August 2024 at Pondok Pesantren X, Sukoharjo District. All 31 junior high school students participated as respondents. Data were collected through a checklist assessment and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: The findings showed no statistically significant difference in students’ knowledge and attitudes toward bullying behavior, although there was a 4.8% increase in the average knowledge scores from pre-test to post-test on anti-bullying awareness. Conclusion: Although "Find Friends" demonstrated potential in boosting anti-bullying awareness, students' knowledge levels on bullying behavior did not significantly change in this study. Factors such as pre-existing knowledge from school may have influenced the results. Future studies with larger samples and extended intervention periods are recommended to explore the deeper impact of the game and to refine its methods for enhanced effectiveness.

Abstract

Background: Over time, adolescents in Indonesia are increasingly at risk of changing their lifestyles, as evidenced by the curiosity of adolescents for information that can cause the emergence of premarital sex behavior. This behavior is perilous, it may cause imminent harm, especially to adolescent girls. Based on data from the Palu City Health Office, there were 171 cases of adolescents who had premarital sex in 2018-2021. The results of the midwife interview found that five adolescents were pregnant before marriage within the Mamboro Health Center working area in 2022. Objectives: to explore predisposing factors (knowledge and attitude), supporting factors (media influence), and driving factors (influence of health workers, family and peers) in adolescent premarital sexual behavior. Method: a qualitative study with a case study design. There were 10 informants; 1 key informant, 6 main informants, and 3 supporting informants selected by purposive sampling techniques. Results: 4 out of 6 main informants had engaged in premarital sexual behavior, while 2 others admitted they had kissed. Conclusion: Regarding the predisposing factors, knowledge related to the definition, forms, factors, and the impact of premarital sex was clearly stated by adolescents. As for attitudes, adolescents had a positive attitude or abstinance towards premarital intercourse. It was found that in the supporting factors, media influenced the adolescents in form of pornographic photos and videos. As in the driving factors, health workers, family, and peers have the influence related to information, communication, and motivation among adolescents. However, adolescents prefer to tell reproductive problems to their friends.

Abstract

Introduction: Obesity is one of the global problems as declared by the WHO. In Indonesia, obesity is continuously rising over the years with 12.2% in teenagers aged >15. Therefore, physical activity is one of the prevention efforts to reduce obesity to create a healthy and prosperous life in accordance with the SDGs indicators to campaign for a healthy lifestyle and strive to achieve prosperity for the world community. Aims: This study aims to analyze the factors of physical activity behavior in high school teenagers in Gresik Regency. Method: This study implemented a quantitative approach with the cross-sectional method. The researchers obtained  samples for about 360 adolescents with a stratified proportional random sampling technique. The data collection was gathered by completing online questionnaires through Google Forms. The data analysis method employed in this study was the Chi-Square test by observing the relationship in each variable. Result: This study’s result indicates a relationship between gender, social support, and supportive situations with physical activity behavior. However, the age variable demonstrates no relationship with physical activity behavior. Conclusion: Most adolescents in the Senior High Schools of Gresik Regency exhibit moderate physical activity. It means that the majority of respondents have performed physical activity within seven days. Social support, including family support, school support, and peer support, as well as the existence of supportive facilities in the environment around adolescents, can increase physical activity behavior in adolescents.

Abstract

Risky sexual behavior is a serious issue as it is a major risk factor for the emergence of diseases such as Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), disabilities, and mortality among adolescents due to a lack of information about sexual health. The aim of this study is to prevent risky sexual behavior through health education based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). A systematic review was conducted using four electronic databases (Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science (WoS), and Science Direct) on previous studies employing cross-sectional, quasi-experimental, and Randomized Control Trials (RCT) designs from the last 5 years (2017-2021). The database search was performed from November to December 2021. The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) was used as a guide for assessing the quality of the studies, and PRISMA was used as the research guideline. Data analysis utilized descriptive analysis to identify themes. There were 11 articles that met the inclusion criteria in the review. All selected studies discussed sexual health education using the TPB approach. There was an improvement in behavior change based on TPB (attitudes, subjective norms, control, and intention) among adolescents who received sexual health education. The factors influencing adolescents' intentions are closely related to the process of behavior formation. These factors include attitudes, subjective norms, and behavioral control. A Sexual health education based on TPB can be an appropriate intervention to prevent risky sexual behavior among adolescents, as its priority is to strengthen behavioral intentions by enhancing attitudes, subjective norms, and behavioral control through continuous health education.

Abstract

On February 14, 2025, a massive fire struck the Final Waste Disposal Site (TPA) in Puuwatu, Kendari City, destroying 52 houses owned by sanitation workers and causing material losses estimated at IDR 1.1 billion. This incident had a significant social and economic impact, particularly on low-income communities who rely on the informal waste management sector. In response to this emergency, lecturers and students from STIKES Pelita Ibu Kendari carried out a community service initiative. The main objectives were to provide targeted basic necessities and offer psychosocial support to affected victims. The activities were conducted through participatory and collaborative approaches, including coordination, needs assessment, fundraising, and direct distribution of aid such as food staples, decent clothing, and other essential supplies. Additionally, the team organized emotional support activities for children and the elderly. The presence of the service team proved effective in strengthening psychosocial resilience and enhancing solidarity among residents. This initiative is expected to serve as a model for community-based emergency response that can be replicated in other regions.
