Abstract

The identification of error types based on Newman’s Procedure includes reading, comprehension, transformation, process skills, and answer encoding. The objective of this study is to describe the analysis of students’ errors in solving mathematical logic problems based on Newman’s Procedure. This research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach involving first year students enrolled in the mathematical logic course within the Information Systems program. Data were collected through a diagnostic test administered to three students representing different levels of academic ability: one low ability student, one moderate ability student, and one high ability student. Students’ ability levels were measured based on tests covering compound propositional logic and logical operations. Data analysis was conducted by classifying errors at each stage of Newman’s Procedure, tracing the underlying factors contributing to these errors, and relating them to students’ logical reasoning abilities. Accordingly, the research method employed in this study is descriptive qualitative research. The resulting error classifications were subsequently used by lecturers as a basis for recommending improvements in instructional strategies. The results indicate that students with low ability made errors across all stages from K1 to K5, students with moderate ability tended to make errors at the case exploration and process skills stages, while students with high ability were able to complete all stages systematically and consistently. These findings confirm that the Newman Procedure is effective in mapping students’ thinking errors. Therefore, the implementation of differentiated learning strategies that emphasize problem comprehension, case exploration, and logical verification is recommended to enhance students’ reasoning abilities

Abstract

Background: HIV/AIDS is a global health issue, including in Indonesia, which ranks fifth among countries with a high risk of HIV/AIDS, after South Africa, India, Mozambique, and Nigeria. It is estimated that approximately 1,700,000 people in Indonesia were living with HIV/AIDS in 2023. Coastal communities, particularly fishermen, require special attention in health development as they may be at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS. Therefore, efforts to prevent the spread of the disease are necessary through Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) activities and educational sessions or talks on HIV/AIDS. Objective: This study aims to describe community behavior regarding HIV/AIDS testing in coastal areas of Indonesia. Methods: This research employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to collect and analyze articles available online, particularly from Google Scholar and ResearchGate. Journal selection followed the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) framework. The analysis focused on HIV/AIDS testing in Indonesia’s coastal areas by identifying articles published between 2017 and 2025, using keywords such as Indonesia, HIV/AIDS, Coastal, Knowledge, Attitude, Service Access, and Family Support. Results: The study revealed that knowledge, attitudes, access to services, and family support are associated with HIV/AIDS testing among coastal communities in Indonesia. Limited knowledge due to a lack of information about HIV/AIDS, low education levels, and busy daily activities affects attitudes toward undergoing HIV testing. Difficult and distant access to health facilities discourages people from seeking testing services. Additionally, family support significantly influences a person's decision to take an HIV test. Conclusion: Based on the literature review on coastal community behavior toward HIV/AIDS testing, it can be concluded that knowledge, attitudes, service access, and family support are related to HIV/AIDS testing. These factors are influenced by limited access, inadequate health facilities, cultural, social, and economic conditions, low public awareness and education, and poor health-seeking behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct HIV/AIDS education using appropriate methods. Keywords : Indonesia, HIV/AIDS, Coastal, Knowledge, Attitude, Service Access, Family Support, and Global Health

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' perceptions of teacher discipline and its relationship with learning achievement at the high school (SMA) level. Teacher discipline is one of the important factors that affect the learning process, where teacher discipline can set a positive example and create a conducive learning environment. This study uses a survey method by distributing questionnaires to students in several high schools in the Surabaya-East Java area randomly. The data was analyzed using the results of the validity test of the instruments filled in by students about teacher discipline and learning achievement. The results of the study show that most students have a positive perception of teacher discipline. Disciplined teachers are considered to be able to increase students' motivation and concentration in learning, which ultimately has a positive impact on learning achievement. In addition, it found an insignificant relationship between teacher discipline and learning achievement, where higher teacher discipline was less likely to correlate with better learning achievement. The conclusion of this study is that students' perception of teacher discipline does not have a significant influence on learning achievement at the high school level. Therefore, it is important for teachers to continue to understand the norms that exist in schools with teachers who actively teach in the classroom and learning activities to support students' academic achievement.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the persistent discrepancies in hilal (crescent moon) determination in Indonesia, specifically between the hisab and rukyat methods, which not only affect individual and collective religious practices but also carry significant implications for the harmony of Muslim family life. While previous studies have predominantly focused on astronomical and jurisprudential aspects, the specific implications for Islamic family law remain relatively underexplored, highlighting the significance of this study. This research aims to analyze the regulations of hilal determination in Indonesia and examine their impact on legal certainty and religious practices from the perspective of Islamic family law. Employing a qualitative method with a normative-juridical approach through library research, this study analyzes statutory regulations, Islamic legal literature, and relevant academic articles. The findings reveal that while the regulation of hilal determination reflects an integration of Islamic and national law through the state's role in the Isbat council, the methodological divergence continues to cause legal and social inconsistencies. These variations result in non-uniformity in religious timing, which ultimately affects legal certainty and the harmony of religious observance within Muslim families. Consequently, this study suggests that a harmonization of hilal determination regulations is essential to realize legal certainty, unity in worship, and the overall stability of Muslim family life.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are one of the key pillars supporting regional economic growth while also contributing to the improvement of community living standards. The development of MSMEs is influenced not only by internal business factors but also by population dynamics and the characteristics of residential areas, particularly in urban settings. This study aims to examine how the polarization of increasing residential settlements affects the development of MSMEs in Medan Tuntungan District. The analysis focuses on the relationship between population growth and the number of MSMEs in relation to MSME income, as well as comparing MSME development across areas with different levels of residential density. This research adopts a descriptive quantitative approach and applies multiple linear regression analysis. The data consist of primary data collected through questionnaires and interviews with 100 MSME operators in Medan Tuntungan District, along with secondary data obtained from relevant institutions and various literature sources. The independent variables in this study include population growth and the number of MSMEs, while the dependent variable is MSME income. The results indicate that population growth has a positive and significant effect on MSME income. In addition, the number of MSMEs also shows a positive and significant influence on MSME income. Simultaneously, both independent variables significantly affect MSME income in Medan Tuntungan District. These findings suggest that the expansion of residential settlements can serve as an opportunity for MSME development when supported by appropriate policies and empowerment initiatives.
