Abstract

This activity aims to enhance the understanding and skills of pesantren administrators and students in managing Islamic finance, including the principles of Sharia-based financial management and the integration of digital financial technology. The event took place on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Pesantren Terpadu Semayoen Nusantara, using a service learning (SL) approach that involved all stakeholders of the pesantren as active participants. Evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests showed significant improvement in participants' understanding, with a notable increase in their comprehension of Islamic finance principles after the activity. Participants also demonstrated a better readiness to apply Islamic financial literacy concepts into real-life practice, such as implementing Sharia-compliant financial management within the pesantren. These results are consistent with previous studies that highlight the critical role of education and capacity building in promoting the adoption of Islamic financial systems within the community. This activity contributes to the SDG's goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), by equipping the pesantren community with knowledge and skills to manage finances ethically and effectively. Despite challenges such as time constraints, this activity successfully achieved its objectives and inspired the implementation of similar programs in the future.

Abstract

Accurate investment decisions are often influenced by information available in the media. News headlines, as part of information media, can provide an initial picture of market sentiment and ongoing trends. This research examines the importance of making appropriate investment decisions with a focus on sentiment analysis and entity detection in news headlines as supporting tools. Through machine learning-based sentiment analysis and Named Entity Recognition (NER) techniques, this study identifies opinions and entities such as company names, stock indices, and industry sectors in news headlines. This research compares three machine learning algorithms, namely SVM, Naive Bayes, and Random Forest using cross-validation. The result shows that the best algorithm is SVM with weighted average F1-score of 76,68%. Furthermore, hyperparameter optimization is performed using Optuna for the SVM algorithm, which is an innovation in the context of sentiment analysis on news headlines in Indonesia. The result shows an increase in weighted average F1-score to 78,14%. For NER, a rule-based method is used by utilizing the Jaro-Winkler string similarity function. The combination of sentiment analysis and NER is then presented in the form of a dashboard using Google Looker Studio tools, with data from sentiment analysis and NER results being processed periodically and automatically using Google Workflows. This research makes a significant contribution by expanding the scope of analysis from just one or a few issuers to all entities published on news portals thanks to NER support, making the results relevant to support investment decisions that are responsive to dynamic market changes.

Abstract

This study explores the intersection of Maqasid al-Shariah (the objectives of Islamic law) and environmental sustainability, focusing on its implications within Islamic economics. Recognizing the increasing global challenges related to environmental degradation, this research highlights the essential role of Islamic principles in fostering sustainable economic practices. The Maqasid al-Shariah, which prioritize the preservation of life, intellect, lineage, wealth, and faith, inherently support environmental stewardship as a means to achieve balance and harmony. This study used a qualitative content analysis approach to investigate the integration of Maqasid al-Shariah and environmental sustainability in Islamic economics. Data was gathered from secondary sources, including peer-reviewed articles, policy documents, and reports from Islamic financial institutions. By examining Islamic teachings, ethical frameworks, and financial instruments such as green sukuk, the study demonstrates how Islamic economics can contribute to addressing environmental challenges. This work underscores the potential of faith-based economic systems to lead global efforts toward sustainability, advocating for a paradigm shift that integrates spirituality, ethics, and economic decision-making for the betterment of society and the planet.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought various benefits, but it also poses significant risks to the well-being of individuals, especially the younger generation. The phenomenon of online loans and online gambling poses a serious threat among students, who often lack financial literacy and awareness of digital risks. This research aims to raise students' awareness of the dangers of online lending and online gambling through an education and socialization program at SMAN 1 Sigli, Aceh. The program was implemented using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, which includes four phases: identification, needs determination, intervention, and evaluation. The results showed that after participating in the program, there was a significant increase in students' understanding of the risks of online loans and online gambling, as well as a change in attitudes towards both issues. In addition, teachers involved in the program reported increased confidence in delivering related materials to students. These findings suggest that an interactive and comprehensive educational approach can be effective in protecting students from the risks of online lending and online gambling. Recommendations for further development include implementing similar programs in other schools, developing more comprehensive educational materials, and increasing parental and community involvement in prevention efforts. This research contributes to the development of Islamic financial literacy, digital risk awareness, and supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Abstract

Public speaking is an essential skill in many sectors, including business and financial services. Effective public speaking involves not only speaking ability, but also clarity of information delivery and the ability to motivate the audience. Members of the Pawnshop Employees Wives Association (IIKP) have a strategic role in disseminating information related to pawnshop products and services. However, there is a gap in public speaking skills and product understanding among IIKP members. Therefore, a training program was held that focused on improving public speaking skills, understanding product knowledge, and applying creative marketing strategies. The training used the service learning (SL) method, involved 30 participants with various educational backgrounds, and focused on hands-on practice and application of innovative marketing strategies. The results showed significant improvement in public speaking skills and pawnshop product understanding with higher post-test scores than pre-test. The main challenges encountered included different levels of understanding among participants and limited technological knowledge. The positive impacts of this activity include increased competence of IIKP members in delivering product information with more confidence, as well as the potential to implement more creative and effective marketing strategies. This activity made a significant contribution to women's empowerment and sustainable communication and marketing capacity building

Abstract

This community service project in Alue Naga Village, Banda Aceh, aimed to explore and identify its economic empowerment potential, focusing on oyster farming and ecotourism. Despite the villages rich natural resources, such as a preserved mangrove ecosystem and high-quality oysters, these remain underutilized due to limited infrastructure, poor resource management skills, and marketing challenges. The project used a Service-Learning (SL) approach, involving multiple stakeholders including local government, researchers, and community members. Key activities included socialization, education, and training for fishermen, MSMEs, women, and youth. The project delivered results of prior studies and developed sustainable strategies for local economic empowerment. The results showed significant potential for oyster farming and ecotourism development, though improvements in infrastructure and market access are needed. Villagers showed high engagement, particularly in developing processed oyster products like crackers and nuggets. Collaboration between stakeholders enabled a comprehensive approach to economic empowerment, addressing both social and environmental factors. This project offers a replicable model for other coastal villages in Indonesia, demonstrating that strategic planning, community engagement, and multidisciplinary collaboration are essential for sustainable village development. Additionally, the initiative contributed to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as No Poverty, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Life Below Water, highlighting its long-term benefits for the community.

Abstract

Zakat plays a role in realizing socio-economic justice and poverty alleviation through job creation and entrepreneurial opportunities. Zakat given to mustahik will support their economic improvement if it is channeled to productive activities. One area of productive zakat utilization is business capital assistance. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the use of productive zakat funds by Baitul Mal in Banda Aceh City on the income level of mustahik in Banda Aceh City. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that the venture capital assistance program managed by Baitul Mal had no impact on the mustahik's income level. This is due to several things, namely mustahik's not being able to develop their business optimally, lack of supervision and assistance for mustahik's businesses, and declining sales during this pandemic. Therefore, comprehensive support is needed from various parties such as the government, the community and other institutions that support poverty alleviation programs).
