After analyzing the student personality using SPSS, it was found that introvert personalities with a visual learning style scored 0.786, introvert personalities with an audio learning style scored 0.914, introvert personalities with a kinesthetic learning style scored 0.874 as well as extrovert personalities with a visual learning style scored 0.944, extrovert personalities with an audio learning score 0.926, extrovert personality with a kinesthetic learning style score of 0.927. Thus, academic success in English is significantly correlated with introverted students with a Visual Auditory Kinesthetic learning style and is significantly correlated with extroverted students whose learning style shows a good correlation.

Abstract

This quantitative research investigates the correlation between self-efficacy and public speaking anxiety among students enrolled in the Business English Program. Data collection was conducted through a questionnaire to explore whether self-efficacy has a correlation with speaking anxiety in students and to identify the dominant aspect of self-efficacy. Results indicate a weak correlation between self-efficacy and public speaking anxiety, with no specific aspect of self-efficacy predominantly influencing speaking anxiety. Hence, it is crucial to note that correlation does not imply causation, and while a relationship exists, it does not firmly conclude that high self-efficacy directly reduces public speaking anxiety. Other factors might also contribute significantly to alleviate this anxiety.

Abstract

The lack of English learning materials tailored to the specific academic and professional needs of accounting students in Islamic universities presents a challenge in preparing students for the global workplace. This study aims to identify the English learning needs of accounting students at an Islamic university in order to develop relevant and effective learning materials. Data were collected using a google Form questionnaire distributed to students, English lecturers, accounting lecturers and graduates. The data were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach. The findings indicate that all four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), along with language components such as grammar and vocabulary, are considered important by respondents. The students preferred teaching methods that include discussion, exercise, demonstrations, role-play, vocabulary drills, group work, and video-based learning. Regarding assessment, the majority of students favored restricted response tests, written tests, matching items, performance-based tests, and multiple-choice questions. In addition to general English topics, students express the need to learn terminology related to Islamic Accounting. Essential language functions identified include self-introduction, participating in meetings, and communicating in professional contexts such as client interactions and academic conferences. These findings can be used to produce English learning material tailored to specific needs of accounting students in Islamic higher education institutions

Abstract

Reading plays a critical role in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context, serving not only as a core linguistic skill but also as a gateway to academic success. This study explores EFL students’ perceptions of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) and examines its influence on their motivation to engage in reading activities. Using a qualitative descriptive design, the data were collected from fifth-semester students enrolled in the Critical Reading course at Universitas Negeri Makassar through questionnaires and interviews. The findings revealed that students generally perceived CSR positively, recognizing its benefits in improving comprehension, clarifying complex texts, and promoting active participation. The CSR stages of preview, click & clunk, get the gist, and wrap up were largely seen as clear and practical, though some initial confusion was noted. Moreover, CSR fostered students’ engagement and enjoyment by creating an interactive and collaborative learning environment. Importantly, the strategy significantly boosted students’ reading motivation, both intrinsically and extrinsically, by making reading more structured, enjoyable, and socially rewarding. Further research could explore its long-term effects on academic achievement and its adaptability across different language proficiency levels.

Abstract

This study explores the strategies employed by English language teachers in developing writing instructional materials within digitally enriched learning environments. Using a qualitative multiple case study design, six teachers from junior high, senior high, and vocational schools were observed and interviewed. Findings reveal that while all teachers perceive themselves as active material developers, their approaches vary based on their digital literacy, pedagogical beliefs, and access to technological infrastructure. A process-based writing approach is commonly applied, with digital tools such as Google Docs, Grammarly, Padlet, and Canva supporting different stages of instruction. Teachers selected tools based on usability, relevance to student needs, and contextual constraints. However, challenges such as limited preparation time, uneven student digital literacy, and lack of institutional support persist. The study affirms the relevance of the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework. It highlights the need for professional development that equips teachers with skills to design pedagogically meaningful digital writing tasks.

Abstract

Public speaking is a vital skill for students, particularly those majoring in English. However, many students still experience obstacles in terms of self-confidence and the courage to speak in public. This community service activity aims to improve public speaking skills through practice and feedback-based training. The training involved 25 students from various English study programs at Makassar State University with an experiential learning approach that included theory sessions, impromptu speech practice, and reflection. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in three main aspects: awareness of the importance of speaking skills, increased self-confidence, and courage to appear in public speaking. As many as 90% of participants stated that this training helped them be more prepared to speak in public. This activity shows that the practice and feedback approach is effective in building students' soft communication skills and is worthy of being integrated into self-development programs in higher education.

Abstract

This research examines the influence of the Team Games Tournament model on student involvement and academic achievement in scientific education. A mixed-methods strategy was employed to obtain quantitative data through tests, which indicated that a substantial percentage of pupils attained high scores, reflecting a robust comprehension of the topic. Qualitative observations emphasized active engagement, cooperation, and enthusiasm among students during collaborative activities. The results indicate that the interactive characteristics of the Team Games Tournament cultivate a favorable learning atmosphere, augmenting students' enthusiasm and critical thinking abilities. The existence of pupils in lower score ranges highlights the necessity for tailored interventions to assist struggling learners. The research underscores the significance of tailored education and the establishment of inclusive learning environments to address diverse student requirements. The incorporation of collaborative learning practices in science education enhances academic performance and equips students with vital skills, like cooperation and communication, for future difficulties.
