Abstract

Chili is a widely cultivated plant by the community because of its profit. Currently, in maintaining the quality of chili, people commonly use a lot of pesticides. In contrast, naturally, there are biological agents in the shape of natural enemy insects, more effective, and environmentally friendly. This study aims to determine the diversity, abundance, and distribution patterns of natural enemy insects in chili plantation (Capsicum annum L.) at Bincau Village, Martapura District, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan. The sample is collected by pitfall trap, yellow pan trap, and sweep net method. Obtained data are analyzed by Shannon Wienner index (H'), Meyer abundance index, Morisita index (Id), and PCA method for environmental parameter analysis. The results showed the diversity of natural enemy insects on chili plants was moderate (H' = 2.396). Furthermore, the highest abundance in research is demonstrated on Hymenoptera order, which consisted of 9 families, 16 species, and 1,009 individuals. The distribution pattern of natural enemy insects in chili plantations is clustered (Id > 1). Based on the PCA analysis method, the temperature has the most impact on natural enemy insects' presence in this study.

Abstract

Habitat is a place for living things to grow and develop. Differences in physical characteristics of habitats within an area can affect the morphometry of an organism. This study aims to provide information related to the morphometric variation of the carpenter bees Xylocopa confusa Latreille and Xylocopa latipes Drury in different habitats in Central Sulawesi. The research was conducted in four types of habitat, namely primary forest, secondary forest, rural areas, and urban areas in January 2019. The collection of carpenter bees useds a sweep net by swinging it around the sampling location. The carpenter bees obtained were then killed in a killing jar for five minutes. The carpenter bees samples were put into a sample bottle based on the type of habitat. Furthermore, the pinning process was carried out using insect needles. The results showed that the physical characteristics of the different habitats could affect the morphometric variations of the carpenter bees Xylocopa confusa and Xylocopa latipes. The size of the body morphometry of carpenter bees is larger in primary forest habitats, while the smallest size of bees is found in urban areas. This research is useful as preliminary data before carrying out the cultivation and conservation process of wood bees considering that their role in nature is very important.

Abstract

One of the marine areas in Central Sulawesi is Palu Bay. Research on the Density and Diversity of Zooplankton Species in the Palu Bay area of Central Sulawesi after the Tsunami Disaster 28 September 2018. This study aims to determine: Density and Diversity Index of Zooplankton Species. Sampling is carried out at the beginning of the month by considering the state of the neighbours, namely the transition between the first and second full tides when the tidal currents are weak. The research design used a completely randomized design model with seasons, stations, and depths as treatments. Community analysis based on species identification, number of individuals, density, diversity index,. The results showed that the composition of the zooplankton community in the Palu bay area after the Tsunami Disaster of 28 September 2018 consisted of 23 types of zooplankton, which were dominated by: the Copepoda group. The values of the Density and Diversity Index are influenced by habitat, time, and sea depth. The conclusion is that habitat or station, season, and depth are the 3 main factors that affect the density and diversity of zooplankton taxon species in the Palu Bay area.
