Abstract

Background : Smoking is a dangerous habit that causes various diseases and death. Passive smokers, especially children and teenagers, are more susceptible to disease than active smokers. The prevalence of passive smoking in Indonesia is quite high, especially among women (66%) and teenagers (12.7%). Jambi Province has a high number of active smokers (27.47%), resulting in an increase in passive smoking among children and teenagers. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the factors that influence passive smoking behavior among elementary school children in Jambi Province. Methods : This research uses quantitative methods with an analytical observational design. The design of this research is cross-sectional, where each subject is only observed once. Data collection was carried out through approaches, observations and data collection simultaneously on students at Elementary School 59/IV, Jambi City. Results : The results showed that 9 respondents (13.8%) were passive smokers, while 56 respondents (86.2%) did not smoke passively. Statistical analysis found a significant relationship between knowledge and attitudes and passive smoking behavior (p < 0.05). However, the influence of peers and family did not have a significant relationship. Conclusion : This research concludes that increasing knowledge and positive attitudes can reduce the risk of passive smoking behavior in elementary school children. Therefore, prevention programs should focus on health education and the formation of positive attitudes.

Abstract

Introduction: Mental illness is a health condition that causes changes in emotions, thoughts and behavior, often affecting teenagers due to psychological and hormonal changes that are not yet stable. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of using web-based applications and lecture methods in improving knowledge and the ability to self-detect mental health disorders in adolescents and first tested in the local Indonesian context. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design, namely two groups, namely pre-test-post-test, with purposive sampling involving 120 adolescents. The study was conducted in the Working Area of Putri Ayu Health Center, Jambi City, in two Posyandu Remaja Data collection was carried out from July to October 2024 through observation and filling out questionnaires, with data analyzed using covariance analysis. Results: Web-based application and lecture method effectively improved mental health knowledge (p<0.05). Both interventions significantly improved adolescents’ mental health self-detection scores in this group; however, the web-based application showed a greater mean increase than the lecture method. This suggests that the web-based sipamer application is more effective in improving adolescents’ mental health knowledge and self-detection skills. The advantages of the Sipamer application lie in its interactive self-screening features and expert system that facilitate early detection, making it a superior solution compared to conventional methods. Conclusion: Both the web-based application “Sipamer” and the lecture method effectively increase knowledge and self-assessment of adolescent mental health.

Abstract

Indonesia ranks as the second largest country in terms of the number of tuberculosis (TB) cases. It is estimated that approximately 33% of TB cases remain undiagnosed and unreported. Identifying a health-seeking behavior including diagnostic delay in Jambi Municipality is necessary to increase tuberculosis (TB) case finding. This study aims to identify health-seeking behavior, calculate diagnostic delay, and identify factors associated with diagnostic delay, namely individual, social, and structural aspects among TB cases. This study used a cross-sectional design among bacteriologically confirmed pulmonary TB cases with a new treatment history in Jambi Municipality. The number of participating samples was 135 people with multi-stage random sampling. This study revealed that the most common health-seeking behaviors among TB cases were visiting drug stores/pharmacies (20.7%) and community health centers (CHCs) (20.0%). Diagnostic delay was experienced by 75.7% of TB cases with a median of 48 days and an interquartile range of 22-107 days. Variables associated with diagnostic delay were being unmarried (aOR 0.3, 95%CI 0.1-0.9, p = 0.031), moderate social support (aOR 0.2, 95%CI 0.1-0.6, p = 0.004), visit drugstore/pharmacy after symptom onset (aOR 8, 2, 95%CI 1.6-42.3, p = 0.012), the number of health facility visits made before diagnosis was 2-6 (aOR 3.1, 95%CI 1.1-9.3, p = 0.039), and TB stigma from the community perspective was high (aOR 0.3, 95%CI 0.1-0.8, p = 0.019). Evaluation of public-private mix (PPM) activities, especially those involving pharmacies/drug stores and private health facilities, and evaluation of TB screening at CHCs need to be considered. Massive education, community involvement, and psychosocial support are also needed to prevent delays in TB diagnosis.

Abstract

Kegiatan dilakukan selama 3 hari.
