Abstract

Food insecurity is a condition of inadequate food and nutrition experienced by people in certain areas, which has an impact on the inhibition of physiological growth and public health. Generally, food insecurity occurs in villages that are far from urban access, even though the natural potential in villages is greater than in cities. This is also experienced by the people of KarangJengkol Village, Purbalingga Regency, Central Java. Karangjengkol Village has great natural potential due to its location on the slopes of Mount Slamet, but many of its people live below the poverty line, resulting in food insecurity. The real form of effort to improve the food security of the Karangjengkol Village community is to provide education about the importance of animal protein consumption. Professional rabbit farming was chosen because rabbit meat contains animal protein which is quite high compared to other meats. In addition, the temperature of Karangjengkol Village is suitable for rabbit farming. This service activity is carried out through four stages, namely 1) planning, 2) implementation, 3) evaluation, and 4) independent sustainability. Overall, this service activity went well and smoothly. The data from the results of this service activity show that 68.18% of the Karangjengkol Village community has a monthly expenditure allocation below Rp. 600,000 per person, which means that the fulfillment of animal protein tends to be low. Therefore, after this activity, it is hoped that the Karangjengkol Village community will be able to improve food security and economy through rabbit farming independently, professionally, and sustainably.

Abstract

The Gatos Farmers Group in Sumpiuh Village, Banyumas District, has consistently cultivated organic rice over the past two years. This initiative was driven by awareness of the negative impacts of conventional rice farming, particularly the use of chemical inputs, on both the environment and human health. As part of the support provided to the organic rice cultivation efforts of the Gatos Farmers Group, this community service program involved organic pesticide production training and pratice, aimed to enhance farmers' knowledge and equip them with technical skills to produce organic pesticides using natural materials readily available in their surroundings. The training began with participatory planning, followed by lectures on the subject, and continued with hands-on practice in making organic pesticides. The training successfully improved farmers' knowledge of organic pesticides, as evidenced by the increase in post-test scores compared to pre-test scores, further validated through statistical testing using a paired sample t-test. Post-training monitoring indicates that members of the Gatos Farmers Group have adopted organic pesticide production and applied it to their rice farming.

Abstract

Kemutug Lor Village, located on the southern slope of Mount Slamet, boasts various potentials, including livestock farming and the utilization of forest resources. One method of forest area management undertaken by the community is the development of an agrosilvopastoral model, which integrates seasonal crop cultivation with forestry and livestock activities. This community service initiative aims to enhance the community's capacity in processing odot grass into silage as high-quality animal feed. The approach utilized in this activity is asset-based community development. Goat farming and the development of the agrosilvopastoral model in the forest area, initiated by the community, serve as the foundation for this community service activity. A total of 23 individuals from the community were equipped with technical skills in silage production using odot grass as the raw material. This endeavor contributes to the utilization of abundant odot grass in Kemutug Lor and the enhancement of livestock feed management within the community. Evaluation results indicate an increase in the community's knowledge of silage production after receiving training materials. Furthermore, subsequent to the conclusion of the training activity, the community engages in periodic practice and production of silage as supplementary animal feed.
