Abstract

This research arises from a lack of in-depth research on the role of qirā'āt variations in enriching the scientific interpretation (tafsīr 'ilmī) of the Qur'an, particularly in cosmological verses. One example is the statement of Allah Wa āyatun lahumu al-laylu naslakhu minhu an-nahār (Yā-sīn: 37), which has three main qirā'āt: naslakhu (qirā'ah al-jumhūr), yuslakhu (qirā'ah Ibn 'Āmir), and taslakhu (qirā'ah Abī Ja'far). This study aims to reveal the semantic and bayānī meanings of these variations of reading and relate them to modern scientific phenomena regarding the day-night cycle. The research method used is qualitative, based on library research, with textual-comparative analysis of classical qirā'āt texts, traditional tafsīr works, and contemporary scientific interpretive literature. The findings show that the variety of readings provides complementary layers of meaning: naslakhu emphasizes the direct role of Allah as the regulator of cosmic phenomena; Yuslakhu highlights the firmness and orderliness of natural law; While Taslakhu offers dynamic visual illustrations that depict the night actively covering the day. The contribution of this research shows that the science of qirā'āt not only preserves textual authenticity but also expands the horizons of scientific interpretation by presenting an integrated theological, linguistic, and scientific perspective.

Abstract

The study of the rain phenomenon continues to develop over time, leading to the emergence of coalescence theory, a theory and model that discusses the occurrence of precipitation. This study aimed to reveal the connection between the theory of coalescence and Qur’anic perspectives on rain through the literature research framework to strengthen that al Qur’an has mentioned clearly before this theory was discovered through Qur’anic language miracle (al-i‘jāz al-bayānī) and scientific miracle (al-i‘jāz al-‘ilmī) in rain verses. This research concludes that rain can occur when water vapour in the atmosphere condenses into water drops that are large enough to fall to the Earth’s surface, which is influenced by several factors, including air humidity, air temperature, air pressure, and the presence of freezing nuclei to help the formation of water droplets when all these factors are met then it is the right time for the rain to fall because of the fulfilment of coalescence between particles ideally following coalescence theory. The Qur’an has already signalled through language miracles and scientific miracles in surah al-Nūr verse 43 and al-Rūm verse 48 that there is a correlation between the words yuzjī, saḥāb, riyāḥ and cloud formation, while the words yu’allif, and kisaf correlate with the combination of cloud droplets, and the word rukām correlate with increasing the size of the raindrops.

Abstract

PurposeThis research aimed to reveal the integrity of Utsman bin Affan and the authenticity of the Qur'an by the three parameters of integrity: Honesty, Consistency, and Courage, and three parameters of authenticity: Continuity, credibility, and symbolism. It also involved the criticism study of Theodor Noldeke’s View about the codification of The Qur’an. MethodThis research employed a qualitative library approach to analyze Theodor Noldeke's views on the codification of the Qur'an. The analysis method consists of two steps: first, a descriptive analysis of Noldeke's intellectual background and the concepts of integrity and authenticity; second, a comparative analysis of the codification of the Qur'an from the perspectives of Muslim and Western scholars. Results/findingsThere were integrity factors in Utsman bin Affan, namely honesty and trustworthiness in behaviour, consistency in action, and courage and responsibility in making decisions. Utsman bin Affan was a caliph with integrity, so all the policies he issued towards the codification of the Qur'an guaranteed authenticity. ConclusionAlthough Theodor Noldeke argued that the Qur'an codification policy of Utsman bin Affan was inauthentic and has many problems with it, this statement was considered incorrect due to differences in research methods used, as well as differences in the history of the Qur'an and the Bible.

Abstract

Blindness is a medical disease characterised by the partial or complete loss of vision, known as visual impairment or absolute blindness, respectively. The phenomenon of blindness is also mentioned in the Qur'an in several words, including: Al-A'maa, al-Akmah, and Ibyadhadh al-'Ain. This research intends to analyze the differences between al-A'maa, al-Akmah, and Ibyadhadh al-'Ain linguistically and scientifically. This study employs a library research methodology that utilises a descriptive and analytical technique to examine the linguistic and scientific distinctions among the three terms for blindness in the Qur'an. Several linguistic and scientific distinctions may be seen between the three terms of blindness that are found in the Qur'an, as shown by the findings of this research.: First, al-A'maa has two meanings, namely the ultimate meaning and majazi meaning. The connotation of the essential meaning of al-A'maa means total blindness, while the majazi meaning is related to disbelief and misguidance. Second, al-Akmah has three connotations of meanings: ophthalmic genetic, epiphora, and nyctalopia. Third, Ibyadhadh al-'Ain, which happened to the prophet Jacob As, is a cataract disease caused by traumatic and senile cataracts.

Abstract

The order of the verses and their coherence has been debated among orientalists in qur’anic structure studies. This article aims to reveal the coherence of the surah Adz-Dzariyat questioned by Richard Bell regarding the correlation between the verses in the surah. The method of analyzing this surah is Semitic Rhetorical Analysis (SRA), utilizing the verses’ symmetry explanations from Muslim scholars’ interpretations. This library research adopts descriptive and content analysis methods for analyzing data. As a result of the study, Surah adz-Dzariyat consists of two passages and seven parts in mirror construction based on Semitic Rhetoric principles. The relationship between the verses shows their coherence and excellent verse order without jumpy arrangements. Several groups of verses that at first appeared to be irregular became orderly and had a specific connection that could be understood through Semitic Rhetoric principles. This analysis strengthens the miracles of the Qur’an and refutes various opinions that doubt how good the order of the verses of the Qur’an is.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology has resulted in a significant decline in the quality of tadabbur (deep contemplation) of the Qur'an, particularly among the younger generation. This decline is predominantly influenced by technological developments and the pervasive use of social media, which frequently divert children's attention from reflective and spiritual activities. These challenges are compounded by a lack of proficiency in classical Arabic and insufficient guidance in contextualizing Qur'anic messages within contemporary issues. In response to these issues, this community service initiative employs a Semitic rhetorical approach aimed at enhancing tadabbur skills at the Qur'anic Learning Center of Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur’an (TPA) Al-Kholifah Sekaran, Ponorogo, with a focus on QS. Al-'Alaq. The methodological framework for this program includes stages of preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The evaluation outcomes reveal a substantial improvement in students' comprehension of both tadabbur and Semitic rhetoric, with the average score increasing from 34% to 84%. These results demonstrate that the integration of a Semitic rhetorical approach not only deepens students' understanding of QS. Al-'Alaq but also strengthens their spiritual engagement with the Qur'an, providing a more solid foundation for addressing life's challenges. This program underscores the critical importance of incorporating comprehensive learning methodologies within Islamic education to effectively internalize Qur'anic values.

Abstract

The Quran contains verses and letters that are systematically and coherently structured, as supported by al-Zarkashi and al-Suyuti. But Richard Bell took a different view. For example, according to him, the letter Al-Hijr needed to be more systematic, and there were some errors in laying verses. Meanwhile, Michel Cuypers is serious about the Semitic Rhetorical Analysis (SRA) approach in analyzing the structure of the Qur'anic text to find a concentric, mirror, and parallel symmetrical patterns in the form of the Qur'anic text. Even this approach is Considered a modern methodology with a new type of dialogue. It is interesting to look for bright spots in the structure of surat al-Hijr from the perspective of SRA. So that raises the question of what is the form of the text of surat al-Hijr from the standpoint of SRA. A Semitic Rhetorical Analysis (SRA) approach is used to answer this question. That is by analyzing the pairing pattern of the text of surat al-Hijr so that it forms groups of text at the bottom level. The bottom level has reanalyzed the design to get groups of text at the level above it, and so on, until the top level is obtained, namely surat al-Hijr. This article concludes that SRA, according to surat al-Hijr, is a Book consisting of 13 Sections arranged in a concentric symmetrical pattern (A-B-C-B*-A*). Richard Bell's opinion is refuted because each verse in surah al-Hijr is capable of symmetry with other poems from the lowest level of the text to the top level, so this conclusion indicates that surat al-Hijr is systematically and Coherently arranged.

Abstract

AbstractUsing Western methods to study the Qur'an raises several problems and concerns. This article discusses the Islamization of the Semitic Rhetorical Analysis (SRA) method pioneered by Michel Cuypers in Qur’anic Studies. The main goal of this research is to Islamicize the SRA method to make it more harmonious with Islamic values in understanding the Quran. This qualitative case study adopts the Islamization of knowledge approach, as introduced by Syed M. Naquib Al-Attas and Ismail Raji Al-Faruqi. The findings of this study reveal that Cuypers' application of SRA in analysing Quranic texts raises concerns due to inconsistencies with the principles of interpretation within Islamic scholarship, including the neglect of sabab al-nuzūl, the absence of the hadith, the potential reduction of the meanings of Quranic verses, and occasionally arbitrary division of texts. In efforts to Islamize this method, this research recommends removing them and integrating the elements from the sciences of the Quran, such as sabab al-Nuzūl, s hadith, and the science of waqf (stopping in recitation), to fortify the analytical framework of SRA without altering its fundamental principles, including the examination of textual particle levels and various text structures like parallelism, concentric, and mirror structure. This article significantly contributes to developing Western methods to align them with Islamic principles. It addresses concerns and disagreements surrounding the application of Western methods in Quranic studies. Furthermore, it enriches Quranic studies with a more Islamic perspective, ultimately leading to enhanced and thorough comprehension of the Quran and enhancing academic insights. Keywords: Islamisation, Semitic Rhetorical Analysis (SRA)Abstrak  Penggunaan metode Barat dalam studi Al-Qur’an menimbulkan beberapa permasalahan dan kekhawatiran.

Abstract

Too often, eco-theological readings of Qur’anic water verses outrun the text—because structural claims are made without a disciplined, transparent, and auditable method. This article examines whether Semitic Rhetorical Analysis (SRA) can serve as an audit-able tool for reading Qur’anic water passages in a way that disciplines ecological inference. Focusing on Q 23:18–19 and Q 25:48–49, it asks how rhetorical segmentation and parallelism clarify the internal logic of the verses beyond atomistic citation. Using qualitative library-based research, the study applies Meynet’s SRA procedure (segmenting the text, identifying correspondences, and mapping inter-unit relations) and then compares the resulting structure with thematic Qur’anic-ecological readings on water, balance (mīzān), and stewardship (khalīfah). The analysis shows that SRA makes visible a coherent argumentative sequence—sending down water, settling it, and directing its benefits—that frames water as an entrusted measure rather than a merely descriptive sign. It also constrains interpretive overreach by requiring each ecological claim to be traceable to a demonstrable textual relation, while still supporting an ethic of restraint and care. Overall, the article indicates that rhetorical-structural analysis can strengthen eco-tafsīr by providing a replicable pathway from textual structure to ethical inference.
