Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the role of Muhadharah-based speech competition as a performance-based learning model in enhancing Arabic speaking skills at PMDG Putri 3. Employing a qualitative case study design, this research explores how structured speech activities contribute to students' linguistic competence, communicative confidence, and the development of a language-rich environment. Data were collected through non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis involving students, language supervisors, and teachers. The findings reveal that the competition significantly improves vocabulary acquisition, sentence structure, and pronunciation accuracy through systematic preparation and repeated performance. Furthermore, the program fosters students' confidence and motivation by providing authentic communicative experiences in a competitive yet collaborative setting. The study also demonstrates that speech competition plays a crucial role in sustaining a dynamic language environment, where Arabic is actively practiced beyond formal instruction. Theoretically, this research positions Muhadharah-based speech competition as a hybrid model integrating performance-based learning and CLIL oriented approaches while incorporating rhetorical competence and authentic assessment. This study contributes to Arabic language pedagogy by reconceptualizing speech competition as a structured instructional strategy rather than a supplementary activity. It is recommended that language institutions adopt performance oriented programs to enhance communicative competence in meaningful and sustainable ways.

Abstract

This study investigates the language environment (bi'ah lughawiyyah) as an invisible curriculum in Arabic language learning through Ali Al-Hadidi's lens. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) based on the PRISMA framework, this study analyzed scholarly publications from 2020–2025 indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, DOAJ, and Google Scholar. The selected literature was examined using thematic synthesis and critical discourse analysis. The findings reveal that the language environment functions as an invisible curriculum that shapes learners' communicative competence, linguistic identity, disciplinary behavior, and cultural consciousness through everyday institutional practices. The study further demonstrates that Ali Al-Hadidi's educational thought implicitly reflects ecological and sociocultural approaches to language learning, emphasizing language habituation and collective interaction rather than grammar-centered instruction alone. This article contributes a new conceptual framework positioning the language environment as a curriculum ecosystem integrating formal instruction, social interaction, and institutional culture. The study concludes that the future of Arabic pedagogy in the post-method era depends on reconstructing immersive educational ecologies where language becomes a lived social and cultural experience.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of a Language Festival as a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)-based model in enhancing Arabic proficiency within an Islamic boarding school context. Conducted at the female campus of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor during its 100th anniversary celebration, this research employs a qualitative case study design involving students, teachers, and festival organizers. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that the Language Festival functions as an authentic learning environment that significantly improves students’ Arabic communicative competence, particularly in speaking fluency, vocabulary development, and confidence. In addition, the model fosters learners’ motivation, engagement, and higher-order thinking skills through integrated content-based activities such as speeches, debates, and drama. The study also highlights the importance of contextual factors, including institutional culture and immersive language environment, in determining the effectiveness of CLIL implementation. However, challenges remain in balancing language and content integration, as well as in addressing variations in students’ proficiency levels. This study contributes to the growing body of CLIL research by proposing a festival-based learning model that is contextually relevant and pedagogically innovative for Islamic education. The findings offer both theoretical and practical implications for the development of integrated language learning approaches in similar educational settings.

Abstract

Abstract

Until recently, few educational institutions have developed and integrated Arabic language learning curricula with LMS. This study aims to develop a proposed Learning Management System (LMS) program designed to enhance the Arabic proficiency of non-native speakers. It investigates the impact of this program on cognitive fulfilment and language advancement among non-native Arabic learners at the University of Darussalam Gontor, Indonesia. The researcher utilized a quasi-experimental and descriptive research approach, deemed most suitable for this study's nature. Data collection involved 80 students from the University of Darussalam Gontor, employing various tools such as tests, questionnaires, interviews, and observation. The study yielded significant outcomes, including creating the proposed LMS, arabi.id. After completing the research, statistically significant improvements were observed in the experimental and control groups' listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities, with a more substantial positive impact on the experimental group. Moreover, the experimental group's pretest and post-test results showed statistically significant differences in proficiency levels (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). The study's findings suggest that non-native Arabic speakers can benefit from e-learning courses to enhance their language skills. Recommendations include implementing LMS-based Arabic instruction, encouraging instructors to integrate LMS into the Arabic teaching curriculum, and increasing the availability of Arabic educational websites.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Arabic Storytelling in the Arabic Language Festival as a strategy for festival-based Arabic curriculum development at PMDG Putri Campus 1. The research aims to analyze how storytelling activities contribute to strengthening students’ communicative competence through experiential and performance-based learning. This study employed a qualitative case study design involving Arabic teachers, festival organizers, language supervisors, judges, and student participants. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal that Arabic Storytelling functioned not merely as an extracurricular competition but as a curriculum enrichment practice integrated into the pesantren’s communicative Arabic learning ecosystem. The activity strengthened students’ fluency, pronunciation accuracy, confidence, emotional expression, public speaking ability, and spontaneous interaction in Arabic. Furthermore, the festival contributed to strengthening *bi’ah lughawiyyah* by creating authentic and collaborative communicative environments beyond classroom instruction. The study concludes that festival-based language activities possess significant potential for developing communicative Arabic curricula through immersive and experiential learning practices. Theoretically, this study contributes to communicative Arabic pedagogy by introducing festival-based curriculum development as an alternative framework for strengthening communicative competence in Islamic boarding schools.
