Abstract

The economy of Central Sulawesi Province shows fluctuating growth in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), with agriculture and mining as the primary drivers. Nevertheless, a number of obstacles remain, including sluggish economic growth in certain years, a relatively low Human Development Index as reflected in the Average Years of Schooling (RLS) indicator, and a continuing open unemployment problem. This situation highlights the need to understand how social factors relate to regional economic performance. This study seeks to examine the influence of Average Years of Schooling (RLS) and open unemployment on GRDP in Central Sulawesi Province. A quantitative approach employing panel data regression analysis is applied. Data spanning 2019 to 2023 are used to examine the relationship between RLS and open unemployment with respect to GRDP. The analysis reveals that RLS exerts a positive and significant influence on GRDP, with a 1 percent rise in RLS capable of raising GRDP by 3.162 percent. On the other hand, open unemployment has a negative and significant influence, whereby a 1 percent increase in open unemployment causes GRDP to fall by 0.222 percent. Overall, improvement of education quality through RLS is proven to drive regional economic growth, while high unemployment becomes an inhibiting factor for GRDP growth. Therefore, regional development policy needs to focus on improving access to and quality of education as well as creating job opportunities to reduce unemployment, so that the economic growth of Central Sulawesi can be more optimal.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze regional inequality in Sulawesi Island and evaluate the roles of economic growth, investment, and government expenditure in influencing interregional disparities. Utilizing panel data from six provinces in Sulawesi over the 2012–2022 period, the analysis employs the Panel Least Squares method with a Random Effects Model (REM) approach. The estimation results indicate that economic growth has a positive but statistically insignificant effect on inequality (p-value = 0.1261), while investment shows a negative and likewise insignificant impact (p-value = 0.3415). In contrast, government expenditure exerts a positive and statistically significant effect on regional inequality (p-value = 0.0080). The R-squared value of 0.832961 suggests that the model explains approximately 83.30% of the variation in regional disparities. Furthermore, the F-statistic test confirms the overall significance of the model (Prob. F-statistic = 0.000000). These findings imply that among the three examined variables, only government expenditure significantly influences regional inequality in Sulawesi during the study period. The results underscore the importance of fiscal policy orientation and investment strategies that prioritize equity in regional development

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the distribution direct cash assistance to the poverty level in Lambama Village, the research uses a descriptive method with an approach. The research population amounted to 239 Heads of Families, while the sample of 71 respondents was determined using the Slovin formula. Data collection was carried out through the distribution of questionnaires using the Guttman scale, while data analysis used effectiveness analysis with reference to theory. The results of the study showed that the effectiveness of direct cash assistance distribution obtained a value of 75.1 percent, so it was included in the effective category. In detail, the target accuracy indicator obtained a score of 77.4 percent (effective), the accuracy of the amount of assistance 100 percent (very effective), the timeliness of 81.6 percent (very effective), the accuracy of administration 100 percent (very effective), the accuracy of price 100 percent (very effective), and socialization and service 100 percent (very effective). However, the indicator of meeting basic needs only obtained a score of 42.2 percent (quite effective), while the indicator of reducing the burden of poverty obtained a value of 0 percent (ineffective). These findings show that although the implementation of direct cash assistance distribution has gone well according to the provisions, the assistance provided has not been able to reduce the poverty level significantly. Therefore, supporting programs are needed in the form of community economic empowerment, increasing employment opportunities, and updating beneficiary data so that the impact of direct cash assistance on poverty reduction can be more optimal.

Abstract

Poverty remains a persistent development challenge across subnational economies despite substantial differences in regional growth performance. This study examines the relationships among economic growth, inflation, and poverty and evaluates the intervening role of inflation in the growth–poverty nexus using subnational panel data for the 2020–2025 period. Secondary data were compiled primarily from official national statistical publications, covering 122 regional units. Panel data regression was employed with regional and year effects, while model specification was determined separately for each equation and statistical inference was evaluated using robust procedures. The analytical framework distinguishes the direct association between economic growth and poverty from the indirect component operating through inflation. Given the contemporaneous and observational nature of the data, the intervening mechanism is interpreted as an associational panel relationship rather than definitive causal mediation. This framework recognizes that the transmission of economic growth into poverty reduction may operate through multiple channels, including price dynamics, employment creation, income distribution, human capital, social protection, and structural transformation. The study contributes to the regional development literature by integrating inflation into the analysis of heterogeneous growth–poverty relationships at the subnational level. The findings provide a framework for understanding why comparable economic growth outcomes may generate different poverty responses across regions and emphasize the importance of maintaining price stability alongside inclusive growth policies.
