Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between Work-Life Balance (WLB), teacher performance, and educational quality by using teacher performance as a mediating variable that influences WLB on educational quality. This study uses a literature study method with a qualitative approach, where data is obtained from domestic and international scientific articles related to the discussed topic and then analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to find patterns and relationships between variables. The results of the analysis indicate that WLB has a positive influence on teacher performance because teachers who can maintain a balance between work and life tend to have higher motivation, focus, and creativity. Furthermore, teacher performance has been proven to play a significant role in improving educational quality because teachers with good performance can create effective and quality learning. In addition, it was found that the effect of WLB on educational quality is indirect, through improved teacher performance as a mediator. The novelty of this study lies in combining the three variables of Work-Life Balance, teacher performance, and educational quality in one conceptual analysis model that has not been widely studied before. These findings are expected to broaden understanding of the importance of teacher well-being in efforts to continuously improve educational quality.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menyajikan kajian komprehensif mengenai pentingnya fungsi manajerial kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan kinerja profesional tenaga pendidik sebagai elemen strategis dalam mewujudkan mutu pendidikan yang berkelanjutan. Kualitas kinerja guru sering menghadapi persoalan mendasar seperti lemahnya supervisi akademik, rendahnya motivasi kerja, dan kurang optimalnya koordinasi organisasi, sehingga diperlukan peran kepala sekolah yang tidak hanya administratif tetapi juga transformasional. Penelitian ini menjawab sebuah pertanyaan bagaimana efektivitas fungsi manajerial kepala sekolah—meliputi perencanaan, pengorganisasian, pelaksanaan, supervisi, evaluasi, dan pengembangan profesional—mampu memberikan dampak signifikan terhadap peningkatan kapasitas guru. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan studi dokumen, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa kepala sekolah yang menerapkan prinsip kepemimpinan kolaboratif, visioner, dan berbasis data mampu membangun budaya kerja yang kondusif, memperkuat komitmen profesional guru, serta meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran. Pembahasan hasil menunjukkan bahwa fungsi manajerial yang efektif tidak hanya bergantung pada kompetensi teknis, tetapi juga pada kemampuan kepala sekolah membangun komunikasi interpersonal, menciptakan kejelasan tujuan, mengelola perubahan, dan mengembangkan program penguatan kompetensi guru secara berkelanjutan. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan perlunya penguatan kapasitas manajerial kepala sekolah melalui pelatihan berkelanjutan dan pengembangan model supervisi inovatif yang lebih adaptif terhadap kebutuhan guru serta tantangan pendidikan masa kini.

Abstract

This study was motivated by low learning outcomes in the IPAS subject on the “memakan dan dimakan” (eating and being eaten) topic at SD Negeri Rembul 01 due to limited and non-varied learning resources. The study aimed to develop an interactive digital comic and assess its effectiveness in improving students’ learning outcomes on the “memakan dan dimakan” topic. A Research and Development (R&D) model with an ADDIE design was employed, involving 36 fifth-grade students, consisting of 6 students in a small-scale trial and 30 students in a large-scale trial. Data were collected through tests, questionnaires, interviews, and observations, and were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, paired-sample t-test, and N-gain test. The results of the media expert (97.65%) and material expert (92.85%) evaluations indicated that the interactive digital comic was in the “highly feasible” category. The t-test significance value of 0.000 in both testing scales and the high N-gain values of 0.76 in the small-scale trial and 0.77 in the large-scale trial confirmed the effectiveness of the interactive digital comic in improving students’ learning outcomes. These findings are consistent with Mayer’s Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning regarding the integration of visual–verbal media and support the research objective of strengthening students’ conceptual understanding of the “memakan dan dimakan” topic. The study’s implications provide a practical basis for teachers to utilize interactive technology in IPAS learning at the elementary level and offer a theoretical contribution to the development of digital media literacy studies in the context of primary education.
