Efforts to integrated food security and farmer empowerment have become an important issue today. Accordingly, the objectives of this study were to analyze the level of participation of farmers in their group and the empowerment of farmers in the management of rice farming and the factors associated with it, and to analyze the impact of farmer empowerment on sustainability efforts. Fieldwork was conducted in May to June 2012 in two districts in West Java, by taking 239 farmers who had attended the farmer field school. Quantitative data were analyzed statistically based on the descriptive technique and Structural Equations Modeling (SEM). Qualitative data were collected through in-depth interview and observation to support the quantitative data. The results showed that: (1) The levels of farmer participation in the farmer group and the farmer empowerment were classified as low. The variables that significantly affected the levels of farmer participation in the farmer group were: intensity of empowerment and personality traits. The variables that significantly affected the levels of farmer empowerment were: farmer participation in the farmer group, intensity of empowerment, physical and socio-economic environment, personality traits, and availability of agricultural information. (2) The prospects for sustainability efforts were classified as low. The level of farmer empowerment significantly affected the sustainability of farming; and (3) The increasing level of farmer empowerment can be achieved by better management of empowerment process, with increasing farmer participation in the farmer group, strengthening the availability of agricultural information, and the physical and socio economic environment.Â Keywords: empowerment, participation, capacity of farmers, business sustainability

Peranan sektor pertanian dalam perekonomian nasional sangat penting dan strategis. Hal ini terutama karena sektor pertanian masih memberikan lapangan pekerjaan bagi sebagian besar penduduk yang ada di pedesaan dan menyediakan bahan pangan bagi penduduk. Peranan lain dari sektor pertanian adalah menyediakan bahan mentah bagi industri dan menghasilkan devisa negara melalui ekspor non migas. Bahkan sektor pertanian mampu menjadi katup pengaman perekonomian nasional dalam menghadapi krisis ekonomi yang melanda Indonesia dalam satu dasawarsa terakhir ini.

This research focuses on community participation in the Program Nasional Pemberdayaan Masyarakat-Mandiri in Kotabatu Rural, District Ciomas, Bogor Regency. This study uses quantitative with survey methods and qualitative methods with in-depth interviews. Respondents in this study amounted to 45 people and are selected by random sampling method. The purposes of this study are 1) to analyze the correlation of internal factors in the community with the level of participation in PNPM-Mandiri, 2) to analyze the correlation of external factors that exist in the community with the level of participation in PNPM-Mandiri, and 3) to analyze the correlation between community participation the level of achievement gained in the community-PNPM Mandiri program. Based on the research results to internal factors that influence is age and external factors that influence is intensity of communication. In this program, people participate less, but people still feel a high level of achievement.Keywords: Participation, internal factors, external factors, and achievement.

SL-PTT is a program of agricultural development has implemented a model of empowerment farmers by improving the quality and capacity of farmers through the acceleration of the implementation ICM technologies. This research aims to analyze the level of participation of farmers and the factors related to the level of participation and empowerment farmers who have followed SL-PTT. The research method used is a quantitative analysis with survay method and supported by the qualitative analysis method. The results showed the level of participation farmers graduated SL-PTT included high category on each stage of the program. The level of participation have correlation with the cosmopolitan of farmers, intensity of communication, the intensity following extension and the availability of agricultural information. The level of farmers empowerment have correlated with their participation and included high categories based on indicators of the ability of farmers to access information, implement ICM technology and make decisions.Keywords: SL-PTT Program, The level of participation, Farmers empowerment.

Various programs and the results achieved must not be separated from the role of agricultural extension in carrying out their duties and responsibilities in fostering farmer. The purpose of the study to identify the level of performance of agricultural extension in Pidie District in carrying out their duties, and to analyze the factors associated with the performance of agricultural extension. The method used in data collection is the census. The number of respondents in this study were as many as 47 people. The data collection was carried out from February 2014 to April 2014, using questionnaires, interviews, observation and study of literature. The data obtained were tabulated and then analyzed using Spearman Rank. The results showed that the level of performance of agricultural extension in Pidie District in general is still relatively low. Spearman rank correlation results showed: (1) factors related to the internal characteristics of the performance of extension are: length of service and number of target groups (2) factors related to the external characteristics of the performance of extension are: administrative support and working conditions, and (3) Factors competence extension tasks related to the performance of agricultural extension are: the application of adult learning principles, communication skills and ability to cooperate.Keywords: agricultural extension, performance, characteristics, competencies.

Performance of forestry extension workers would contribute to the achievement of extension goals. The study aims to find performance of forestry extension workers in relations to their profile, motivation and job satisfaction. The data collection was carried out from March to April 2014 using questionnaires, interviews, observation and literature study. The data obtained were tabulated and analyzed using Pearson correlation. The results showed: (1) most of the forestry extension in Cianjur District has older age categories, has a long working period, higher education level, and frequency of training is low, (2) the level of work motivation were high tended to moderate, work satisfaction were high, and the level of performance including the moderate categories. The results of the Pearson correlation between the motivation and job satisfaction to the performance of forestry extension in Cianjur District shows: (1) there is positive significant correlation between motivation to the performance of forestry extension workers, and (2) There is no significant correlation between the profile of forestry extension and job satisfaction to the performance of forestry extension workers.Key words: forestry extension workers, motivation, job satisfaction, job performance

The research objectives are to analyze the level of agribusiness competencies of smallholders with vegetable planting, the correlated factors with agribusiness competence of smallholders with vegetable planting, and the strategies of increasing agribusiness competence of smallholders with vegetable planting. The respondents are vegetable farmers who live in the sub-district Syiah Kuala of Banda Aceh and sub-district Darussalam of Aceh Besar. Sampling was done by simple random sampling. Data collection was conducted on the 77 respondents using survey, interviews and observations technique, starting in April 2015 The descriptive analysis and correlation test (Pearson correlation) were used to analyze the data.The results showed that the level of agribusines competencies of smallholders with vegetable planting in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar including moderate category. The moderate agribusiness competence is shown by the moderate level of knowledge, attitude, and skill. There is a very real correlation between: the characteristics of the socio-demographic (age, level of formal education, non-formal education, and experience), motivation to farm, interaction and communication of farmers with agribusiness competencies of smallholders with vegetable planting. The effective strategies that can improve the agribusiness competence of smallhoders are: improve training and field school for farmers, increase the interaction and communication of farmers with extension workers, and the development of farmers groups.Keyword: smallholders,vegetable planting, characteristics, agribusiness competencies

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: 1) menganalisis tingkat persepsi terhadap inovasi dan tingkat partisipasi petani dalam replanting kelapa sawit; 2) menganalisis hubungan antara karakteristik internal dan eksternal dengan persepsi terhadap inovasi replanting petani kelapa sawit; dan 3) menganalisis hubungan persepsi terhadap inovasi replanting dengan partisipasi petani dalam replanting kelapa sawit. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei dan dilaksanakan di Kecamatan Sungai Bahar, Kabupaten Muaro Jambi. Jumlah sampel penelitian ini adalah 83 orang. Metode analisis yang digunakan adalah deskriptif dan korelasi. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah 1) Tingkat partisipasi petani dalam replanting kelapa sawit termasuk kategori rendah dikarenakan faktor ekonomi dan kurangnya penyuluhan yang diberikan; 2) karakteristik internal dan eksternal petani yang berhubungan dengan persepsi terhadap inovasi replanting petani dalam replanting kelapa sawit adalah tingkat pendidikan, frekuensi penyuluhan, dan dampak perkebunan besar yang dirasakan petani; dan 3) persepsi terhadap inovasi replanting kelapa sawit tidak berhubungan dengan partisipasi petani dalam replanting kecuali pada aspek tingkat triabilitas.Kata kunci: partisipasi, replanting, kelapa sawit
