Abstract

This study aims to overcome the problem of low learning outcomes in Christian Religious Education (PAK) among fourth-grade students at SD Negeri Karanganyar. Observations indicated that the learning process was monotonous due to the predominant use of lecture methods, resulting in decreased student engagement, lack of focus, boredom, and even drowsiness during lessons. These factors contributed to low learning motivation and poor academic performance. To address this, the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model was applied as an alternative method designed to foster active learning, student engagement, and real-life problem-solving skills. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, conducted in two cycles with four stages in each cycle: planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection. The research subjects were five students from class IV. Data collection techniques included observation sheets, which focused on measuring the “concern” aspect of the Pancasila Student Profile, and written tests to evaluate students’ learning outcomes at the end of each cycle. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and percentage analysis. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ concern, which increased from 73.5% in cycle 1 to 85.9% in cycle 2—an increase of 12.4%. Learning outcomes also improved, with the proportion of students in the “Proficient” category rising from 20% to 60%, marking a 7.8% increase. These findings demonstrate that the PBL method is effective in enhancing both students’ character values and academic achievement, particularly on the topic of respecting parents. Therefore, PBL is recommended for use in similar character-based learning contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the critical thinking skills of ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Linggang Mapan through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in the topic Living in Harmony with Nature. Critical thinking skills are essential in education, especially for developing abilities in analysis, evaluation, and problem-solving. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were ninth-grade students in Phase D, with data collection techniques including observation, tests, and interviews. The results of the study show that the implementation of the PBL model significantly improved students’ critical thinking skills. This is evidenced by an increase in the average score of critical thinking tests from Cycle I to Cycle II, as well as an increase in students' active participation in discussions and problem-solving activities. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the PBL model is effective in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills. Therefore, it is recommended that educators adopt the PBL model as an alternative teaching approach, particularly for topics that require higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

The main issue faced by Grade X students of SMKN 2 Huruna is the lack of learning independence, particularly in the subject Human Dignity as the Image of God. This problem is caused by the use of conventional teaching methods that are less engaging and do not encourage active student participation. As a result, student learning outcomes remain low and do not meet the expected learning objectives. This study aims to improve learning outcomes and foster student independence through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The research focuses on strengthening the independence dimension within the Pancasila Student Profile (P3), particularly in the affective aspect. This classroom action research (CAR) uses a quantitative approach and was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle includes four stages: planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of 11 students in Grade X. Data were collected through observations of student behavior (specifically critical thinking and independence) and achievement tests conducted at the end of each cycle. The results show that the PBL model effectively improved cognitive achievement, with the average learning score rising from 80.14 in the first cycle to 83.36 in the second cycle. The percentage of students categorized as “proficient” increased from 18% to 36%. Furthermore, student independence also improved, as indicated by increased participation in discussions, confidence in expressing opinions, and the ability to complete tasks independently. The reflection stage concludes that PBL is effective in enhancing both academic performance and student independence and recommends continued support to strengthen the affective dimension of student learning.

Abstract

This study is based on the problems faced by Grade XI students at SMKN 1 Ngabang, namely the lack of motivation for independent learning, which often leads to a less conducive classroom environment. Additionally, teachers have not yet implemented student-centered learning models in the teaching process. The aim of this study is to determine the improvement in students' independence and learning achievement through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in the pastoral work material of the Church in the field of Liturgia. This classroom action research (CAR) was conducted in two cycles consisting of four stages: planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection. The research subjects were 30 Grade XI students. Data were analyzed descriptively by comparing results between cycles. The focus of this study was on the dimension of independence, one of the profiles of Pancasila students, in order to enhance the affective aspect of learning. The results showed a significant improvement in students' independence, from 68% in the first cycle to 88% in the second cycle. In terms of cognitive aspects, students were categorized as advanced (30%), proficient (50%), and basic (20%). The improvement in learning outcomes between the first and second cycles indicates that the PBL model is effective in enhancing students' independence and academic performance. Reflections from this study recommend the need for continued support of students’ affective development to further strengthen their independent learning. In conclusion, the Problem Based Learning approach, when focused on the dimension of independence, has been proven to improve student learning outcomes in Grade XI.

Abstract

The background of this classroom action research is: 1) the low critical reasoning ability of students as seen by the lack of active participation in discussions, 2) the lack of ability to analyze problems and argue logically, and 3) low learning outcomes in Catholic Religious Education (PAK) learning. So far, the learning approach applied by teachers still uses a lecture or monologue approach. This research aims to: 1) improve students' critical reasoning skills through active participation in discussions in PAK lessons through the Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach, 2) improve students' ability to analyze problems and argue logically, and 3) improve student learning outcomes in Catholic Religious Education (PAK) learning. To overcome this challenge, interesting learning methods are needed to increase teaching outcomes and student interest in the classroom. One method that has proven effective is Problem Based Learning (PBL). Focusing on the critical reasoning dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile is intended to improve the affective aspect in the learning process. The research process was carried out for 2 cycles which were divided into stages: 1) Planning; 2) Implementation; 3) Observation; 4) Reflection. The respondents of this study were 13 students consisting of 9 male students and 4 female students. The results showed that the critical reasoning aspect increased by 26.2%, from cycle 1 with 60% and cycle 2 to 86.2%. Meanwhile, the results of the cognitive aspect test in cycle 1 of the Jesus material proclaiming the Kingdom of God with an average score of 62 increased to 85 in cycle 2 with the material The Passion and death of Jesus. The results of the reflection recommend that there needs to be assistance in the affective aspect for students so that it can improve student learning outcomes. Thus, learning with the PBL approach by focusing on one dimension of critical reasoning can significantly improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study is based on the issues faced by Catholic students in class XII MIPA 1 at SMAN 1 Kembayan, particularly their lack of motivation to learn and difficulty in collaborating with peers of different religious backgrounds. Students tend to prefer working with those who share the same religion, indicating a limited openness toward diversity. The conventional lecture-based teaching approach used by teachers has proven to be less effective in fostering values of tolerance and pluralism. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the improvement in students' learning outcomes within the dimension of global diversity, focusing on both the affective (behavioral) and cognitive (academic performance) aspects through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in the topic of Interreligious Dialogue and Cooperation. This is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles involving 14 students. Each cycle consists of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The main focus is on the global diversity dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile to strengthen affective values. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive quantitative methods in the form of percentages. The results show a significant improvement in the affective aspect, with the average score increasing from 63.2 to 86.2 (an increase of 23%), and in the cognitive aspect, from an average of 68.21 to 84.57 (an increase of 16.36 points). In conclusion, the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model with a focus on a specific Pancasila Student Profile dimension effectively enhances students' learning outcomes and their attitudes toward diversity.
