Abstract

Catholic Religious Education and Ethics have an important role in shaping the character and spiritual attitude of students. However, in the learning process, Catholic Religious Education and Ethics often face challenges, especially caused by the influence of the digital era and instant mindset. This challenge becomes increasingly complex because teachers have not applied methods that are oriented to students in the learning process, resulting in an impact on the low critical reasoning skills that can be seen from students' learning outcomes. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the application of the Discovery Learning (DL) model in improving students' critical reasoning skills and the average completeness of learning outcomes of Catholic Religious Education and Ethics in Phase E. This class action research was carried out in four stages, namely planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection, with class X respondents as many as 13 students. Data were obtained by observing changes in the behavior of the critical reasoning dimension and learning achievement tests at the end of each cycle. Data processing with descriptive and percentage analysis, in two cycles with the Discovery Learning (DL) model. Focusing on the critical reasoning dimension of the Pancasila student profile is intended to improve the cognitive and affective aspects in the learning process. The results showed that there was an increase in the cognitive aspects of students in the advanced category by 31%, from 23% in the first cycle to 54% in the second cycle. Abstract

This study addresses learning challenges, including student learning difficulties and the ineffective use of lecture-based methods, which result in boredom, disengagement, and low student participation. These issues contribute to poor learning outcomes and low completion rates. The aim of this study is to improve student independence and enhance both average scores and the percentage of learning completion by implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. This aligns with the principles of the flexible Independent Curriculum, which encourages teachers to adopt student-centered learning approaches that enhance outcomes. The study employed a descriptive-qualitative method, structured in two cycles consisting of planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection. The research involved eight 8th-grade students at SMPN 1 Biatan during the 2024/2025 academic year. The study focused on developing the "independent" dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile (P3), with data collected through behavioral observations and test results at the end of each cycle. Findings showed significant improvements in student independence, with scores increasing from 53 in cycle 1 to 87 in cycle 2. Cognitive achievement levels also improved: the “advanced” category rose from 0% to 63%, “proficient” increased from 25% to 37.5%, while the “feasible” and “newly developing” categories dropped from 37.5% each to 0%. These results suggest that the PBL model positively impacts both character development and academic performance in the context of Catholic religious education, particularly in the topic of the Sacrament of Healing.

Abstract

This study evaluated the effectiveness of several calcium compounds in the saponification of lemuru fish (Sardinella lemuru) oil to produce protected fat supplements for ruminants. Four calcium sources—Ca (OH)₂, CaCO₃, CaCO₃·MgCO₃ (dolomite), and CaSO₄ (gypsum)—were tested using a completely randomized design with five replications. The parameters observed included product texture, proximate composition (moisture, ash, fat), fatty acid profile, and solubility under rumen-like (neutral) and gastric (acidic) conditions. Results indicated that Ca (OH)₂, CaCO₃·MgCO₃, and CaSO₄ were effective in forming calcium or mixed fatty acid salts, while CaCO₃ failed to bind free fatty acids. Among the effective compounds, Ca (OH)₂ produced the fastest hardening product, whereas dolomite and gypsum provided more balanced mineral contributions (Ca, Mg, and S). All protected fat products were less soluble in the rumen environment but readily decomposed under acidic gastric conditions, ensuring nutrient bypass. These findings suggest that low-cost and locally available calcium sources can be utilized to develop protected fat supplements that are both nutritionally safe and practical for ruminant feeding. Further research is needed to optimize the water-to-oil ratio and enzyme application for improved efficiency.

Abstract

Friendships with people from different ethnicities and cultures sometimes lead to invisible conflicts. Problems arise when students from across the region gather and speak their local language even though there are other students who do not understand their language. Ideally when together with people from other regions it would be very good to use Indonesian as a unifying language. In developing national insight, there are three important values that must be implemented, namely sacrifice, equality and kinship. A person's national insight becomes important as a person's perspective on himself as a nation that reflects a sense and spirit of nationalism and is able to maintain his identity as a nation with character. The aims of this study: 1) to describe family values in the campus environment, 2) to describe the values of sacrifice in the campus environment, 3) to describe the values of equality in the campus environment; 4) describe the implementation of national insights for STPKat students. The study used descriptive qualitative methods, data collection techniques, namely data triangulation with interviews and questionnaires, documentation, and observation. The research respondents were students of St. Francis of Assisi College of Pastoral Catechetics (STPKat) Semarang. The results of the study show that: 1) The family values of STPKat students can be applied by implementing an attitude of mutual respect for differences in ethnicity, race, culture and language in friendship relations, 2) the values of sacrifice are carried out by adjusting ethnicity, race, culture and language with friends from other regions and, 3) the value of equality is carried out by recognizing that diversity in STPKat has the same or equal position.
