Abstract

The objective of the present research was to examine the effects of feeding laying hens with sardine oil on the co-3 fatty acids levels of the egg yolk. Results of the study show that changes in the composition of the diet influenced the fatty acid composition of the yolk lipid. Diets with sardine oil from 2 to 8% significantly increased co-3 PUFAs content of the yolk. The increase of w-3 PUFAs was predominated by docosahexaenoic acid (DHA); followed by eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and a-linolenic acid (ALA). In term of egg weight basis, the increase of 0-3 PUFAs in egg due to sardine oil consumption. .was from 8.17mg/egg in diet without sardine oil to 102.27 mg/egg in diet with 2% sardine oil, and 232.63mg/egg in diet with 8% sardine oil. (0-6 PUFAs especially arachidonic acid tended to decrease with the increasing intake of sardine oil. Diets with sardine oil significantly (P<0.05) decreased the cholesterol content of the yolk compared to that without sardine oil. Cholesterol content of the eggs produced by laying hens fed with 2% sardine oil was 191.73 mg/egg significantly lower than that of egg produced by laying hens fed without sardine oil. The cholesterol content of 179.74 mg/egg was produced by hens fed with diet containing 8% sardine oil, this was lower that that of egg produced by the commercial feed of 208.09 mg/egg.

Abstract

This study investigated the effect of feeding atung (Parinarium glaberrimum Hassk.) seed meal on growth performance and haematology profile in broiler chickens. A total of 140 one-day-old male New Lohmann broiler chicks were randomly assigned to five treatment groups with four replicates and seven birds in each replicate pen. The dietary treatments consisted of feeding the same corn-soybean meal as the basal diet with atung seed powder inclusions at levels of 0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0%, respectively. The data were statistically analyzed using One-way with five treatments and four replications and continued with Duncan's New Multiple Range Test for data with a significant difference. Results showed that feed intake increased (p<0.05) in broiler chickens fed diets with 0.5 and 1% atung seed powder. At the same time, the inclusion of atung seed powder had no effect on final body weight, weight gain, and FCR. Inclusion of 1 and 2% atung seed powder significantly increased leucocyte counts, as well as the PCV value trend increased with the inclusion of atung seed powder. It can be concluded that atung seed powder additives can be supplemented in broiler chickens feed at doses 1% by improving feed intake and some haematological profiles.

Abstract

The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of fermented Amorphophalllus companulatus (AC) tubers by Bacillus subtilis on the final weight, carcass weight, and tibia bone of broiler chickens. The feeding trial lasted for 35 days. One hundred and twelve eight days old male broilers of the New Lohmann strain were used for the study. There were four treatment groups and four replications with seven birds per replicate. The four treatments were 1) a control diet without FAC, 2) a diet with 5% FAC, 3) a diet with 10% FAC, and 4) a diet with 15% FAC. The variable observed were final weight, carcass weight, abdominal fat weight, percentage of carcass weight, length, and weight of tibia bone. The result showed that feeding FAC tubers meal did not affect (P>0.05) final weight, carcass weight, the percentage of carcass weight, length, and weight of tibia bone. Feeding FAC tuber meal up to 15% had lower (P<0.05) abdominal fat than feeding control dietary. In conclusion, fermented AC by Bacillus subtilis can be used up to 15% in broiler diets without adversely affecting carcass weight and tibia bone.

Abstract

This research was conducted to investigate the effects of coriander (Coriandrum sativum) essential oil nano emulsion (NCSEO) in drinking water on growth performance and intestinal health (intestinal microbiota and histomorphology) of broiler chickens. A total of 180 one-day-old male broiler chickens were randomly allocated into five treatments with four replicates and 9 chicks per replicate pen. Birds were provided NCSEO via drinking water. The treatments applied were as follows: without any addition (T0), drinking water added with 50 ppm antibiotic tetracycline (T1), drinking water added NCSEO at 25 μL/L (T2), 50 μL/L (T3), and at 100 μL/L (T4). Variables observed were characteristics of NCSEO, growth performance, intestinal microbiota (LAB and Salmonella spp.), and histomorphology of intestine (villus height, villus width, crypt depth, villus height to crypt depth ratio). All collected data were analyzed using ANOVA in a completely randomized design. Results showed that the particle size of NCSEO was 13.1 nm with PDI 0,257, zeta potential -5.65 mV, stable, and spherical shape. The addition of NCSEO improved (p<0.05) final body weight, weight gain, and FCR, while no significant differences in feed intake and water intake, increased the LAB population (p<0.05) whereas Salmonella spp. was not found, and stimulated (p<0.05) villus height and width. The addition of NCSEO at 50 μL/L resulting the highest promoting effect on growth performance, intestinal microbiota, and intestinal histomorphology of broiler chickens. It can be concluded that 50 μL/L of NCSEO as an alternative to antibiotics can be supplemented in drinking water to improve the growth performance and intestinal health of broiler chickens.
