Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the motivation of agricultural extension workers in carrying out extension activities within the scope of work of the BPP Benua District, South Konawe Regency. Agricultural extension plays an important role in increasing the capacity of farmers through effective extension. The motivation of the extension workers can influence the success in conveying information and motivating farmers to implement better agricultural technology. The sampling technique was carried out by census sampling, namely to all agricultural extension workers in the BPP Benua District, totaling 7 people. Data analysis used is qualitative descriptive analysis by classifying the level of motivation of agricultural extension workers into three groups: low, medium and high. The results of the study indicate that: intrinsic factors of agricultural extension workers (physiological needs, needs for self-realization, social needs, needs for security and needs to be given) provide motivation for agricultural extension workers in carrying out their activities in the high category. While extrinsic motivation (operational vehicles, honor/salary, operational costs and extension aids) provide motivation that is classified as medium. This research can provide recommendations for local government policies in increasing the motivation of extension workers so that they can be more optimal in implementing it, which will ultimately have an impact on improving the welfare of farmers in South Konawe Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using printed media such as leaflets and folders in increasing the knowledge of vegetable farmers in compost production in Wonua Village, Konda District, South Konawe Regency. The problem of low farmer knowledge about proper composting techniques has resulted in the suboptimal utilization of organic waste as a source of fertilizer raw materials. Printed media such as leaflets and folders were chosen because they are easy to understand, inexpensive, and can be studied independently. The sample size has taken by census model and data obtained by direct interview. Variables observed to print of media consist of leaflet and folders and knowledge scores of respondents by measuring the increase of knowledge on the material presented in the media leaflets and folders in the manufacture of compost on vegetable crops. Obtained data is tabulated, made to be percentage and then will be analyzed by descriptive qualitative. The results of this research show that effectiveness of increasing farmers' knowledge of vegetables in the composting through print leaflets quite effectively with a value of 61.19 percent while the percentage for the use of folders in the print media is less effective with the percentage of 48.03 percent in the farmer respondents.

Abstract

The evolution of corn farming in Wakadia Village, Watopute District, Muna Regency, which exhibits considerable promise in enhancing food security and regional economic vitality, is predominantly influenced by the caliber of farmers' human capital. This encompasses their knowledge, skills, education, and aptitude for technological adoption. Current levels of human capital development in this domain are deemed inadequate, underscoring the necessity for targeted and sustainable capacity-building initiatives. The objective of this study is to ascertain the human capital of farmer groups engaged in corn farming activities in Wakadia Village, Watopute District, Muna Regency. The research population consists of all corn farmers who are members of seven farmer groups in Wakadia Village, with a total of 196 people. The research sample consists of 66 people. The sampling technique employed was proportional random sampling. The research variables were human capital and corn farming activities. Quantitative descriptive methods were used to conduct the data analysis. The findings indicated that the corn farmer group members exhibited a predominantly moderate to good level of human capital, particularly with regard to their knowledge and skills in carrying out corn farming activities. The farmers' comprehensive understanding of the cultivation process, from land preparation to harvesting and post-harvesting, along with the technical skills acquired through farming experience and interaction within farmer groups, were found to be pivotal in fostering the sustainability of corn farming in Wakadia Village. However, the formal education of farmers remains comparatively limited, thereby impeding the enhancement of human capital capacity in a sustainable manner, particularly with regard to the implementation of agricultural innovations and technologies. Despite the evident success of corn farming activities, enhancing the human capital of farmers through educational initiatives, training programs, and ongoing support is imperative. This will empower farmer group members to optimize all stages of corn farming, increase productivity, and promote the sustainable well-being of farmers.
