Abstract

Jukung Bay is a bay on Lombok Island. Lobster (Spiny lobster, Panulirus sp.) or crayfish is a type of crustacean that has important economic value. Water quality is very influential in lobster cultivation and plays a very important role in the survival of the lobster itself. Before cultivating lobsters, it is necessary to check the suitability of the water quality in the waters. Because water quality has a function that is greatly influenced by nature and human activities. Water quality is closely related to the process of mineral weathering in bedrock, the process of evapotranspiration in the atmosphere and the deposition of dust and salt by the wind as well as the activities of living creatures over time. This research was carried out in Ujung Betok Hamlet (Jukung Bay waters), Pemongkong Village, Jerowaru District, East Lombok Regency. The sampling locations were carried out at three points, namely, point 1 in IMTA KJA, point 2 in non-KJA waters and point 3 in non-IMTA KJA. At point 1, namely KJA, which is carried out using the IMTA system, at point 2, waters where there are no KJA and at point 3, KJA, people who cultivate lobsters do not use the IMTA system. The research was carried out from October 2022 to July 2023. In this time period, 3 samples were taken, namely in July 2022, October 2022 and February 2023. Based on the results of research using the IMTA system, it has not shown maximum results. This condition is due to the fact that at IMTA cultivation locations many floating net cage businesses are being carried out by local residents, so that the cultivation of the IMTA system being developed is still affected by the large number of cages owned by residents.

Abstract

Mangroves are vegetation that generally have woody stems and consist of shrubs whose life cycle is on the coast and can adapt to tidal seawater. This study aims to identify mangrove species, density conditions, frequency, damage criteria, and temporal changes in mangrove areas using Landsat 7 ETM and Landsat 8 OLI-TIERS imagery data in Teluk Jor. This research was conducted from June to July 2024 in Teluk Jor with a total of 9 observation plots. The methods used in this study include remote sensing methods and location point determination using purposive sampling methods. The data analysis used in this study includes vegetation density analysis and remote sensing analysis for mangrove mapping. The results showed that there were 6 types of mangroves found in Teluk Jor, namely Avicennia marina, Ceriops tagal, Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora stylosa, Sonneratia alba, and Sonnerati caseolaris. The highest density of mangrove species in Teluk Jor was Rhizophora apiculata with 3,034 ind/ha, and the lowest density of mangrove species was Ceriops tagal with 67 ind/ha, with the highest frequency being Rhizophora apiculata. The highest total mangrove vegetation density in the second transect was 3,833 ind/ha, and the lowest total mangrove vegetation density in the third transect was 1,967 ind/ha. The standard criteria for mangrove forest damage in Teluk Jor are in good condition with dense density, and there has been a decrease in the mangrove ecosystem area from 2003 to 2023 by 72.94 Ha.

Abstract

The area of mangrove ecosystems in West Nusa Tenggara Province continues to decline each year. One of the threatening factors that substantially contribute to such condition is socioeconomic activities of human beings in fulfilling their needs. An effort that can be made primarily to preserve the mangrove ecosystem is to quantify the economic value of environmental services provided by the mangrove ecosystem as a whole, so that the existence and sustainability of the mangrove ecosystem could be maintained. This research aims to calculate the total economic value of mangrove ecosystem services which indicate the four categories of ecosystem services including supporting services, provisioning services, regulatory services and cultural services. The research was carried out using a survey method by collecting data and information from location of this study to obtain actual data regarding the existence of the mangrove ecosystem. The results of the analysis show that the total economic value of mangrove ecosystem environmental services is 963,888,060/year. This value is divided into provider services (supply services) amounting to Rp. 153,002,250, regulatory services (arrangement services) Rp. 598,339,702, supporting services (support services) Rp. 2,243,250, and cultural services (cultural services) Rp. 210,308,857. The magnitude of the total economic value of mangrove ecosystem environmental services can be a reference for the government in determining compensation for services if there is degradation to mangrove ecosystem resources in the area.

Abstract

Hard corals (Scleractinia) serve as essential reef constructors and offer habitats for numerus marine species. This study aimed to asses the diversity of hard coral (Scleractinia), genera dan percentage of live coral cover in Nipah Bay as fundamental data for sustainable reef management. The research was conducted in July 2025 at three observation stations with two depth levels (3 and 7 meters). Data collection utilized the Underwater Photo Transect (UPT) method, while coral identification employed Coral Finder 2.0 and CPCe (Coral Point Count with Excel extension) software. Result indicated that live hard coral cover ranged between 10.47 % and 46,73%, which according to the ministry of environment Decree No. 4 2001, falls within the demaged to moderate category. A total of 28 genera and 1,859 hard coral colonies were documented, with Porites, Favites, Montipora, and Pocillopora identified as the dominant genera. The diversity index (H’) ranged form 1.67-2.01, mean 1,86; moderate, the evenness index (E) rangged from 0,60-0,78, mean 0,70; high, and the dominance index (D) ranged from 0,17-0,29, mean 0,22; low. These outcomes suggest that the hard coral community in Nipah Bay remains relatively stale and balanced, though shallow regions exhibit degradations likely due antrophogenic pressures and environmental stress. Sustained monitoring and cominity based conservation are recommended to support coral reef resilience and ecosystem health.

Abstract

Abstract

Seaweed is one type of fishery commodity that is widely used both as a raw material for food, industry, medicine, and cosmetics. This causes the economic value of seaweed to help the community's economy and can increase the country's foreign exchange. Seaweed is one of the largest carotenoid producers because green seaweed generally contains chlorophyll a and b compounds and carotene compounds which can function as antioxidants. Factors that affect the content of carotenoids is the spacing of seaweed seeds. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of spacing in the basic stake system on the carotenoid content of Caulerpa lentilifera and to determine the ideal spacing that gives optimal effect on the carotenoid content of Caulerpa lentilifera. This study used an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD) pattern with 6 treatments and 3 replications with treatments namely Control (25 cm spacing), P1 (20 cm spacing), P2 (30 cm spacing), P3 (20 cm spacing). plant 35 cm), P4 (planting distance 40 cm), P5 (planting distance 45 cm). The data obtained was then analyzed using variance (ANOVA) with a 95% confidence level and to find out the best growth a further test was carried out using the BNT test. The results showed that the spacing applied to the basic stake system had no effect on the carotenoid content of Caulerpa lentilifera, but had an effect on the absolute growth and specific growth rates. Spacing of 30 cm is the best distance for the growth of Caulerpa lentilifera with an absolute growth of 128.917 g and a specific growth rate of 4.965%, but the difference in spacing has no effect on the carotenoid content. The conclusion of this study was that the difference in plant spacing of the basic stake system had no effect on the carotenoid content of C. lentilifera, but had an effect on the absolute growth and specific growth rate. There was no ideal spacing to increase carotenoid content in C. lentilifera, because each treatment tended to have relatively the same carotenoid content.

Abstract

The fish processing and marketing group (poklahsar) in the Gili Matra Marine Protected Area has received intervention from the central government through Bappenas in the COREMAP-CTI III program. This intervention involves improving human resource capacity and providing grants for fish processing equipment. However, the limited duration of the program has resulted in suboptimal assistance in utilizing the donated fish processing equipment. Therefore, the involvement of universities in assisting the community is deemed necessary. This assistance activity aims to inform and educate the poklahsar about the use of fish processing equipment, particularly machines, to enhance production capacity in the Gili Matra Marine Protected Area. The assistance activities were carried out in July 2023 at the respective production locations of each poklahsar. The educational method for adults in this assistance activity involves lectures and hands-on practical training. The outcome of this assistance activity is an increased understanding and knowledge among poklahsar in the Gili Matra Marine Protected Area regarding the functions and uses of various machine-based fish processing equipment. Additionally, it was identified that some obstacles hinder optimizing machine-based equipment utilization, including a lack of understanding in using such equipment and limited market demand for processed fish products. In conclusion, the poklahsar have diverse views on using machine-based equipment, enabling them to optimize the use of such equipment despite the limited demand for processed fish products.
