Abstract

The Putri Idaman Women Farmers Group (KWT) in Guntung Payung Village, Landasan Ulin District, Banjarbaru has cultivated lettuce hydroponically. In certain conditions, lettuce plant productivity that is too high can cause difficulties. The rainy season with high humidity will cause conditions for pest and disease attacks, considering that this plant is grown hydroponically, its control cannot be carried out using chemical insecticides, besides endangering consumers, it can also damage the environment. Socialization and training on making herbal pesticides from garlic have been carried out by the service team from the Agroecotechnology Department, Faculty of Agriculture, ULM. This activity was conducted face-to-face with lecture and practice methods starting from the opening, greetings, and then delivery of materials, practice, and discussion with participants. The activity participants numbered 44 people consisting of 34 members of the Putri Idaman women's farmer group and 10 members of the Iwapi group (Indonesian Women Entrepreneurs Association). The results of the activity evaluation from the participants on average answered agree and strongly agree from the six rubrics asked: activity service; suitability of service materials to partner problems; and interactive materials presented by the resource person. Twenty-three participants stated that they strongly agreed to participate again if this activity was held again. From the socialization and training activities for making herbal pesticides from garlic, it is hoped that it can become a herbal pesticide product that can be used sustainably in controlling hydroponic lettuce HPT by the Putri Idaman women's farmer group in maintaining the quality of their hydroponic lettuce products.

Abstract

Peatlands have good prospects for use as agricultural land. Peatlands have many problems, one of which is high acidity. Organic goat manure is expected to be able to overcome the problem of peatlands. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the best combination of peat media and organic goat manure on the pH of the media and the growth of pepper plant stem cuttings. This research was carried out for three months (October to December 2021), including taking peat soil in Sukamaju Village, Landasan Ulin Timur District, Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan; taking pepper cuttings in Senakin Village, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan; planting pepper cuttings in the Greenhouse Department of Agroecotechnology Faculty Agriculture at Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan; and observing the pH of cutting media at the Production Laboratory of the Agroecotechnology Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan. This research used a completely randomized design (CRD) with one factor. The factor studied was the composition of the planting medium (K), which consisted of five treatments: k1 = 100% peat + 0% organic goat manure, k2 = 75% peat + 25% organic goat manure, k3 = 50% peat + 50% organic goat manure, k4 = 25% peat + 75% goat manure organic fertilizer, and k5 = 0% peat + 100% goat manure organic fertilizer. The results showed that the treatment with the composition of 0% peat + 100% organic goat manure (k5) is the best for increasing the pH of the media (6.50). The composition of 50% peat + 50% organic goat manure (k3) was the best in increasing shoot height and number of leaves (4.44 cm shoot height and 1.08 leaves), but not different from the composition of 25% peat + 75% organic fertilizer goat manure (k4) on the percentage of live cuttings, number of shoots, and leaf width (70% live cuttings, 0.70 shoots, and 2.69 cm leaf width).

Abstract

Rainfed rice fields are wetlands whose use is still not optimal, so proper management is needed so that they can be utilized for rice cultivation. In efforts to improve land productivity, the concept of a sustainable rice cropping system has been developed which takes into account environmental conditions known as the System of Rice Intensification (SRI). One of the serious limiting factors in the utilization of rainfed lowland rice fields is the problem of weeds. This study aims to determine the diversity of weeds in rainfed paddy fields planted with aromatic rice and fertilized with NPK fertilizer combined with rice straw compost. This study used a 2-factor randomized block design (RBD). The first factor was the dose of NPK fertilizer (A), namely: a0 = 0 kg ha-1 (control), a1 = 150 kg ha-1, and a2 = 300 kg ha-1, and the second factor is the dose of rice straw compost (K), namely: k1 = 5 t ha-1, k2 = 7.5 t ha-1, k3 = 10 t ha-1, k4 = 12.5 t ha-1, k5 = 15 t ha-1, and k6 = 20 t ha-1. The results showed that there were six types of weeds found in the aromatic rice planting area in rainfed lowland rice fields that were applied with NPK fertilizer and rice straw compost, namely Cyperus rotundus, Chloris radiata, Cyperus iria, Echinochloa colona, Ludwigia palustris, and Amaranthus spinosus. The weed that dominated rainfed lowland rice planted with aromatic rice with the application of NPK fertilizer and rice straw compost was Cyperus rotundus, with a summed dominance ratio (SDR) of 58–100% found in the a2k6 treatment (300 kg ha-1 NPK + 20 t ha-1 rice straw compost). The highest weed diversity index (H') value was found in the a0k1 treatment (0 kg ha-1 + 5 t ha-1 rice straw compost) at a 45 DAP of 1.10.

Abstract

The increasing popularity of equestrian activities today for sports, entertainment, recreation, hobbies, and lifestyles has had a positive impact with the emergence of several horse riding training areas and horse-breeding in South Kalimantan, especially in Banjarbaru City. The horse stables at the horse riding training areas will produce waste in the form of horse manure, both solid (feces) and liquid (urine). Poor waste management of horse manure will hurt the environment. This community service activity aims to provide an eco-friendly solution to the problem of a pile of horse manure in horse stables. Based on the discussions between the community service team and the owner of one of the horse farms in Banjarbaru City, Johnhaus Stable, a solution was provided in the form of training in making compost fertilizer made from horse manure. The training began with a presentation on compost making and was followed by practice in making compost from horse manure. Based on the results of the pre-test and post-test given to participants, there has been a significant increase in the interest and knowledge of the participants regarding compost fertilizer.

Abstract

Decline in physiological seed quality during storage can significantly reduce viability and vigor, including in Hiyung cayenne pepper, a superior local variety from South Kalimantan. One potential solution is the invigoration technique, which involves treating seeds with certain solutions to restore their quality. This study aimed to examine the effect of shallot extract as a natural invigoration agent and to determine the best concentration to improve the viability and vigor of Hiyung cayenne pepper seeds that have exceeded their storage period. The research was conducted at Seed Control and Certification Center for Food Crops and Horticulture (BPSBTPH) Banjarbaru from July to August 2024 using a completely randomized design with one factor: four solution concentrations (0%, 10%, 15%, 20%) and five replications. Observed parameters included maximum growth potential, germination rate, vigor index, uniformity, and growth rate. The results showed that shallot extract had a significant effect on germination rate and growth rate, but no significant effect on maximum growth potential, vigor index, and uniformity. Application of 10% shallot extract improved seed viability, while 20% concentration enhanced the vigor of Hiyung cayenne pepper seeds that had exceeded their storage period.
