The methods included preliminary surveys, awareness sessions, the construction of an organic fertilizer house, training on the production of organic fertilizer and the operation of a shredding machine, as well as mentoring and monitoring of compost production at the farmer-group level. The results demonstrated: (1) the successful establishment of an organic fertilizer house equipped with a shredding machine; (2) a significant reduction in compost maturation time, from the usual 2–3 months to approximately 3–4 weeks under controlled operational conditions; (3) a reduction of labor requirements by around 40% during the processing stage; (4) full adoption of the technology by participants, with 100% of trainees able to independently produce organic fertilizer after the mentoring phase; and (5) an estimated 20–30% potential reduction in chemical fertilizer expenditure, accompanied by an observed initial decrease of about 10% in NPK use at the group level. Weekly monitoring over 21 days also showed that the compost produced met the physical criteria for maturity—including dark brown color, crumbly texture, and the absence of foul odor. Overall, the program strengthened the self-sufficiency of the farmer group in producing organic inputs and has the potential to improve soil fertility in the medium term. Future recommendations include extended mentoring through field trials, optimization of raw material ratios, and regular maintenance of production facilities to ensure long-term sustainability.

Abstract

Routine assistance to several Islamic boarding schools, including the Nurul Muhibbin Halong Islamic Boarding School, is the Adaro Santri Sejahtera (PASS) Program. This program focuses on skill development so that besides having religious knowledge, students are also expected to know about entrepreneurship. This mentoring activity is a form of Community Service (PkM) for Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) as a driving effort to develop a business unit for cultivating and marketing community agricultural products, such as feed corn and organic edamame. This activity is also aimed at making Islamic boarding schools more prosperous, independent, and advanced in learning religious knowledge and providing students with knowledge and skills in agribusiness to become independent people. This activity was carried out for four months (August‒December 2021) at the Nurul Muhibbin Islamic Boarding School, Halong District, Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan, with a target number of participants of 20 people. The method used in this activity is a classical and individual approach. The classical approach was taken when providing theory regarding the introduction of feed corn cultivation and organic edamame, while the individual approach was taken when filling out the questionnaire. This service activity produces elements of Islamic boarding school students, caregivers, and congregation farmers who have knowledge, understanding, and skills in intensive feed corn and organic edamame cultivation. This is essential capital for the Islamic boarding school to continue and develop farming to create an independent Islamic boarding school.

Abstract

Danda Jaya Village is one of the primary oyster mushroom producing areas in Barito Kuala Regency, South Kalimantan Province, but until now, the baglog waste from these cultivation activities has not been optimally managed, potentially leading to environmental pollution. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of oyster mushroom cultivators in processing baglog waste into organic fertilizer. The implementation method involved preparation, execution—consisting of lectures and practical fertilizer-making sessions—and evaluation using questionnaires. The activity was attended by 24 participants who are members of the oyster mushroom cultivation group. The practical sessions utilized oyster mushroom baglog waste (50 kg) as the primary material, mixed with cow manure, bran, agricultural lime, EM4, and molasses. Evaluation results showed a significant increase in participant knowledge; while technical procedural knowledge ranged from 0‒18.75% before the activity, it surged to 80‒100% after the training. Currently, 100% of the participants understand that baglog waste can be processed into compost, which is expected to be independently applied to their respective agricultural lands in Danda Jaya Village to support environmental sustainability.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the effects of various types of ash on the acidity and ionic status of peat soil, as well as to investigate the relationship between soil acidity and the ionic status of peat soil treated with these different types of ash. The research employed a one-factor completely randomized design (CRD). The factor studied was the type of ameliorant, consisting of four levels: a0 = no ameliorant, a1 = rice husk ash, a2 = sawdust ash, and a3 = empty oil palm bunch ash. Each treatment was replicated five times, resulting in a total of 20 experimental units. The results indicated that the application of ash significantly affected the acidity (pH), redox potential (Eh), Electrical Conductivity (EC), and Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) of peat soil at various observation times. The relationships observed were as follows: soil pH and Eh exhibited a moderate negative correlation (r = -0.522 at three  months after treatment), Eh and EC showed a strong negative correlation (r = -0.643 at three months after treatment), EC and CEC had a positive correlation (r = 0.620 at 18 months after treatment), and CEC with pH demonstrated a positive correlation (r = 0.550 at 12 months after treatment). The most effective ameliorant was found to be empty oil palm bunch ash (a3), followed by sawdust ash (a2).

Abstract

The development of edamame soybeans is quite promising. Since edamame soybeans are an export commodity, increasing edamame soybean production can support domestic and international markets. Cultivating edamame soybeans has obstacles in every production process. The soil fertility level is the main factor in increasing the production of edamame soybean cultivation, but using soil chemicals is one of the causes of decreased fertility. The solution to these obstacles is to use organic fertilizer from waste materials, one of which is liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) from goat urine. This study aims to determine the effect of LOF+ goat urine on the growth and yield of organic edamame soybeans and the best concentration of LOF+ goat urine on the growth and yield of organic edamame soybeans. The research used a randomized block design (RBD) and five treatment levels of LOF+ goat urine: 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20%, with five repetitions to obtain 25 experimental units. The research showed that treatment LOF 5% (equivalent to 50 mL LOF+ in 950 mL water) was the best treatment for increasing edamame plant height by 23.03%, number of leaves by 12.59%, and number of fresh pods by 17.29%, weight of fresh pods 41.05%, and production of as much as 41% can increase the growth and yield of edamame soybeans.

Abstract

Hiyung chilli (Capsicum frutescens) is a local cultivar grown in the lowland swamp agroecosystem of Hiyung Village, South Kalimantan, where cultivation is constrained by seasonal flooding and water fluctuation, limiting planting to once annually. This study evaluates the availability of essential macronutrients, such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), in floating raft-based growing media supplemented with NPK fertilizer. A descriptive method was applied using three fertilizer doses: 0, 150, and 300 kg ha⁻¹. Results show that increasing fertilizer doses proportionally enhances nutrient availability, including NH₄⁺ (189,54 ppm), NO₃⁻ (26,17 ppm), available P₂O₅ (17,57 ppm), and K (0,65 me 100 g⁻¹), accompanied by a pH increase to 5.54. Correlation analysis reveals a strong to very strong positive relationship between pH elevation and macronutrient availability, and a weak to very strong relationship between nutrient levels and plant growth. These findings support sustainable nutrient management strategies to improve Hiyung chilli productivity under swamp-based cultivation conditions.
