Abstract

[JATROPHA SEED POTENTIAL AS A NATURAL RODENTICIDE]. The controlling of rat's pest attacks often use chemical control that adversely affects non-target animals and leaves a residue for the environment. One of the recommended controls is to use natural rodenticides derived from jatropha seeds and do not harm non-target animals that are environmentally friendly. This research aims to determine the interaction and the best combination of bait mixed with jatropha seeds on the death of Mus musculus, as well as the type of bait and the best dose of jatropha seeds on the death of Mus musculus. The design in this study used a completely randomized design consisting of two factors, the first factor was the bait and the second factor was the dose of jatropha seeds. The results showed that there was an interaction between the type of bait and the dose of jatropha seeds on the amount of feed consumed by Mus musculus. The combination of bait type and dose of jatropha seeds that was best for the mortality of Mus musculus was found in the treatment of rice flour with 3.0 g of jatropha seeds, cornflour with 3.0 g of jatropha seeds, and fish meal with 3.0 g of jatropha seeds. The best dose of jatropha seeds in reducing the bodyweight of Mus musculus, accelerating the time of death, and increasing the percentage of death was 3.0 g of jatropha seeds with an average decrease in body weight of Mus musculus reaching 75%, and the fastest death for five days, and able to kill 100% of Mus musculus.

Abstract

[BIO-COMPOSTING OF SOLID OIL PALM WASTE WITH DIFFERENT DECOMPOSERS AND PHYSICOCHEMICAL CRITERIA FOR COMPOST QUALITY ASSESSMENT] The quantity of produced wastes by oil palm industry is increasing and may lead to significant environmental concerns and the use of these wastes as compost is considered to overcome their negative impacts. However, very few studies have been conducted to develop an effective composting process of the biomass waste using different decomposers. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the different physicochemical and biological quality of compost produced by bio-composting of solid oil palm waste with three different commercial decomposers. This study was conducted from September 2021 to November 2021 at the Compost House, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lambung Mangkurat. A certain period of bio-decomposition process was employed by using commercial bio-decomposers. Physicochemical and biological analyses of the composted solid waste were conducted after decomposer application. The experiment consisted of four treatments (i.e., solid oil palm waste + chicken manure, solid oil palm waste + chicken manure + EM4, solid oil palm waste + chicken manure + M21, and solid oil palm waste + chicken manure + Tangguh) and they were arranged in completely randomized design with three replicates. Results showed that quality of all compost met the SNI 400 standard except for pH, organic-C, and C/N ratio for the treatment without bio-decomposer,  pH and C/N ratio for the treatment EM4 bio-decomposer, water content, pH, organic-C, and C/N ratio for M21 bio-decomposer, and pH, organic-C, and C/N ratio for the treatment with Tangguh bio-decomposer, respectively. The maximum germination test obtained was recorded at 70%, 80%, 94%, and 86% in compost media without bio-decomposer, with EM4, 94% with M21, and with Tangguh, respectively. The maximum number of microbes were recorded at 3.2 x 106 µg/g, 2.9 x 105 µg/g, 1.3 x 106 µg/g, and 8.0 x 105 µg/g for compost without bio-decomposer, with EM4, with M21, and with Tangguh bio-decomposer, respectively.

Abstract

The Putri Idaman Women Farmers Group (KWT) in Guntung Payung Village, Landasan Ulin District, Banjarbaru has cultivated lettuce hydroponically. In certain conditions, lettuce plant productivity that is too high can cause difficulties. The rainy season with high humidity will cause conditions for pest and disease attacks, considering that this plant is grown hydroponically, its control cannot be carried out using chemical insecticides, besides endangering consumers, it can also damage the environment. Socialization and training on making herbal pesticides from garlic have been carried out by the service team from the Agroecotechnology Department, Faculty of Agriculture, ULM. This activity was conducted face-to-face with lecture and practice methods starting from the opening, greetings, and then delivery of materials, practice, and discussion with participants. The activity participants numbered 44 people consisting of 34 members of the Putri Idaman women's farmer group and 10 members of the Iwapi group (Indonesian Women Entrepreneurs Association). The results of the activity evaluation from the participants on average answered agree and strongly agree from the six rubrics asked: activity service; suitability of service materials to partner problems; and interactive materials presented by the resource person. Twenty-three participants stated that they strongly agreed to participate again if this activity was held again. From the socialization and training activities for making herbal pesticides from garlic, it is hoped that it can become a herbal pesticide product that can be used sustainably in controlling hydroponic lettuce HPT by the Putri Idaman women's farmer group in maintaining the quality of their hydroponic lettuce products.

Abstract

Peatlands have good prospects for use as agricultural land. Peatlands have many problems, one of which is high acidity. Organic goat manure is expected to be able to overcome the problem of peatlands. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the best combination of peat media and organic goat manure on the pH of the media and the growth of pepper plant stem cuttings. This research was carried out for three months (October to December 2021), including taking peat soil in Sukamaju Village, Landasan Ulin Timur District, Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan; taking pepper cuttings in Senakin Village, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan; planting pepper cuttings in the Greenhouse Department of Agroecotechnology Faculty Agriculture at Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan; and observing the pH of cutting media at the Production Laboratory of the Agroecotechnology Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan. This research used a completely randomized design (CRD) with one factor. The factor studied was the composition of the planting medium (K), which consisted of five treatments: k1 = 100% peat + 0% organic goat manure, k2 = 75% peat + 25% organic goat manure, k3 = 50% peat + 50% organic goat manure, k4 = 25% peat + 75% goat manure organic fertilizer, and k5 = 0% peat + 100% goat manure organic fertilizer. The results showed that the treatment with the composition of 0% peat + 100% organic goat manure (k5) is the best for increasing the pH of the media (6.50). The composition of 50% peat + 50% organic goat manure (k3) was the best in increasing shoot height and number of leaves (4.44 cm shoot height and 1.08 leaves), but not different from the composition of 25% peat + 75% organic fertilizer goat manure (k4) on the percentage of live cuttings, number of shoots, and leaf width (70% live cuttings, 0.70 shoots, and 2.69 cm leaf width).
