Abstract

One type of land found in the swamp ecosystem is acid sulfate land. This land has the potential to be developed into agricultural land, especially rice plants. However, it is classified as problematic land because it has negative characteristics and is less fertile. Sulphidic materials are characteristic of acid sulfate soils where pyrite is abundant. The unique properties of pyrite are highly dependent on water conditions and come from marine deposits, namely mineral or organic soils that contain a lot of S which is easily oxidized and have soil acidity that tends to be very low. This research was carried out from June to October 2021 at Sungai Rangas, West Martapura District, Banjar Regency, and the Laboratory of the Department of Soil, Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan. The method used in this study is the design in this study was compiled using a randomized block design (RBD) with a split-plot design. The first factor studied was the type of compost (A) as the main plot consisting of three treatment levels: a1 = rice straw compost, a2 = coffee grounds compost, a3 = oyster mushroom baglog waste compost while the second factor was the dose of compost (B) as a child. The plot consisted of two treatment levels: b1= 0 t ha-1, b2= 20 t ha-1 divided into four experimental blocks so that 24 experimental units were obtained. The results showed that the application of compost waste rice straw, coffee grounds, and baglog of oyster mushrooms at a dose of 20 t ha-1 can increase soil pH and reduce soil soluble Fe and Al-soluble in acid sulfate soils.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the effects of various types of ash on the acidity and ionic status of peat soil, as well as to investigate the relationship between soil acidity and the ionic status of peat soil treated with these different types of ash. The research employed a one-factor completely randomized design (CRD). The factor studied was the type of ameliorant, consisting of four levels: a0 = no ameliorant, a1 = rice husk ash, a2 = sawdust ash, and a3 = empty oil palm bunch ash. Each treatment was replicated five times, resulting in a total of 20 experimental units. The results indicated that the application of ash significantly affected the acidity (pH), redox potential (Eh), Electrical Conductivity (EC), and Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) of peat soil at various observation times. The relationships observed were as follows: soil pH and Eh exhibited a moderate negative correlation (r = -0.522 at three  months after treatment), Eh and EC showed a strong negative correlation (r = -0.643 at three months after treatment), EC and CEC had a positive correlation (r = 0.620 at 18 months after treatment), and CEC with pH demonstrated a positive correlation (r = 0.550 at 12 months after treatment). The most effective ameliorant was found to be empty oil palm bunch ash (a3), followed by sawdust ash (a2).

Abstract

The development of edamame soybeans is quite promising. Since edamame soybeans are an export commodity, increasing edamame soybean production can support domestic and international markets. Cultivating edamame soybeans has obstacles in every production process. The soil fertility level is the main factor in increasing the production of edamame soybean cultivation, but using soil chemicals is one of the causes of decreased fertility. The solution to these obstacles is to use organic fertilizer from waste materials, one of which is liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) from goat urine. This study aims to determine the effect of LOF+ goat urine on the growth and yield of organic edamame soybeans and the best concentration of LOF+ goat urine on the growth and yield of organic edamame soybeans. The research used a randomized block design (RBD) and five treatment levels of LOF+ goat urine: 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20%, with five repetitions to obtain 25 experimental units. The research showed that treatment LOF 5% (equivalent to 50 mL LOF+ in 950 mL water) was the best treatment for increasing edamame plant height by 23.03%, number of leaves by 12.59%, and number of fresh pods by 17.29%, weight of fresh pods 41.05%, and production of as much as 41% can increase the growth and yield of edamame soybeans.

Abstract

[JATROPHA SEED POTENTIAL AS A NATURAL RODENTICIDE]. The controlling of rat's pest attacks often use chemical control that adversely affects non-target animals and leaves a residue for the environment. One of the recommended controls is to use natural rodenticides derived from jatropha seeds and do not harm non-target animals that are environmentally friendly. This research aims to determine the interaction and the best combination of bait mixed with jatropha seeds on the death of Mus musculus, as well as the type of bait and the best dose of jatropha seeds on the death of Mus musculus. The design in this study used a completely randomized design consisting of two factors, the first factor was the bait and the second factor was the dose of jatropha seeds. The results showed that there was an interaction between the type of bait and the dose of jatropha seeds on the amount of feed consumed by Mus musculus. The combination of bait type and dose of jatropha seeds that was best for the mortality of Mus musculus was found in the treatment of rice flour with 3.0 g of jatropha seeds, cornflour with 3.0 g of jatropha seeds, and fish meal with 3.0 g of jatropha seeds. The best dose of jatropha seeds in reducing the bodyweight of Mus musculus, accelerating the time of death, and increasing the percentage of death was 3.0 g of jatropha seeds with an average decrease in body weight of Mus musculus reaching 75%, and the fastest death for five days, and able to kill 100% of Mus musculus.

Abstract

[BIO-COMPOSTING OF SOLID OIL PALM WASTE WITH DIFFERENT DECOMPOSERS AND PHYSICOCHEMICAL CRITERIA FOR COMPOST QUALITY ASSESSMENT] The quantity of produced wastes by oil palm industry is increasing and may lead to significant environmental concerns and the use of these wastes as compost is considered to overcome their negative impacts. However, very few studies have been conducted to develop an effective composting process of the biomass waste using different decomposers. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the different physicochemical and biological quality of compost produced by bio-composting of solid oil palm waste with three different commercial decomposers. This study was conducted from September 2021 to November 2021 at the Compost House, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lambung Mangkurat. A certain period of bio-decomposition process was employed by using commercial bio-decomposers. Physicochemical and biological analyses of the composted solid waste were conducted after decomposer application. The experiment consisted of four treatments (i.e., solid oil palm waste + chicken manure, solid oil palm waste + chicken manure + EM4, solid oil palm waste + chicken manure + M21, and solid oil palm waste + chicken manure + Tangguh) and they were arranged in completely randomized design with three replicates. Results showed that quality of all compost met the SNI 400 standard except for pH, organic-C, and C/N ratio for the treatment without bio-decomposer,  pH and C/N ratio for the treatment EM4 bio-decomposer, water content, pH, organic-C, and C/N ratio for M21 bio-decomposer, and pH, organic-C, and C/N ratio for the treatment with Tangguh bio-decomposer, respectively. The maximum germination test obtained was recorded at 70%, 80%, 94%, and 86% in compost media without bio-decomposer, with EM4, 94% with M21, and with Tangguh, respectively. The maximum number of microbes were recorded at 3.2 x 106 µg/g, 2.9 x 105 µg/g, 1.3 x 106 µg/g, and 8.0 x 105 µg/g for compost without bio-decomposer, with EM4, with M21, and with Tangguh bio-decomposer, respectively.
