Abstract

STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) plays a crucial role in elementary schools because it provides a strong foundation for students' skill development and understanding in science and technology. STEM education can help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity from an early age This research aims to implement a STEM-integrated module infused with Wasaka character values to internalize the Wasaka character in students. The Wasaka character, comprising religiousness, resilience, responsibility, and independence, is vital for fostering holistic development. The study utilizes a one-group pre-test-post-test design with pre-test and post-test evaluations to measure the effectiveness of the module in enhancing character development. Data were collected through observations and questionnaires. The results indicate a significant improvement in the internalization of Wasaka character traits following the implementation of the module. The findings suggest that integrating STEM education with local cultural values can effectively contribute to character building. This study highlights the importance of culturally relevant education in shaping students' character.

Abstract

STEM education, which includes Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, is essential to prepare students with the skills and knowledge required in the modern world. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of a STEM-integrated module combined with Wasaka character values to enhance student learning outcomes. The Wasaka values, rooted in local culture, include religiousness, resilience, responsibility, and independence, and are integrated into the STEM curriculum to create a holistic educational approach. The research employs a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test assessments 35 students in a field trial phase. Statistical analyses, including paired t-tests and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests, were used to determine the significance of differences in student performance before and after the intervention. The results show a significant improvement in student learning outcomes, with all students demonstrating higher scores in post-tests compared to pre-tests. The integration of STEM and Wasaka character values enhanced academic achievement. This research concludes that the STEM-integrated module with Wasaka values is effective in improving both cognitive and character aspects of students, providing a model for more comprehensive and culturally responsive educational practices.

Abstract

Abstract

The problem in this research is the low level of critical thinking skills and WASAKA character. The solution to the problem in this research is by using the Problem Based Learning, Number Heads Together, and Teams Game Tournament models integrated with STEAM. The purpose of this research is to analyze critical thinking skills and WASAKA character. The research used is classroom action research, with two cycles, namely Cycle I and Cycle II, involving 20 fourth-grade students of SD. The results of this study show that students’ critical thinking skills reached 100% with the very critical criteria. The WASAKA character of students reached 100% with the internalized criteria.

Abstract

This article discusses students’ low mathematics achievement. It is indicated by the lack of students learning activities. This research is conducted to determine how the implementation of teacher and student activities in the teaching and learning processes through the PBL, SR, and QOD models has an impact on the improvement of students’ mathematics learning achievements, especially on cube and block subject matters. The research used is classroom action research, which is carried out in four meetings. The subjects in this research involve the fifth-grade students of SD Muhammadiyah 6 Banjarmasin. The instrument used is the teacher and students’ observation sheets in the teaching and learning processes and students’ learning outcomes based on the questions given at the end of the learning activity. The results of this research indicate that teacher activities are carried out based on the procedure with very good categories and students’ activities are categorized as very active and most students are very active in class. In addition, students’ learning outcomes individually and in groups that have achieved the minimum score are 70 > 82%. The result also indicates that by applying PBL, SR, and QOD learning models in the mathematical content of cube and block subject matters can be applied properly based on the procedures to increase students’ learning activity and mathematic achievement. This research is expected to be a reference to increase students’ achievement, especially in mathematics learning.

Abstract

The problem in this research is that students experience difficulties in learning activities, which impacts their low ability to understand reading texts and express thoughts logically, as well as challenges in developing skills. Therefore, learning innovation is needed through a combination of Mind Mapping, Project Based Learning (PjBL), and Cooperative Learning models, aimed at describing teacher activities and analyzing improvements in student activities and psychomotor skills for second-grade students at SDN Pasar Lama 1 Banjarmasin. This research employs a qualitative and quantitative approach using Classroom Action Research (PTK), conducted over four meetings in the 2024/2025 academic year. The research subjects consist of 29 students. Data were collected through observations of teacher activities, student activities, and psychomotor skills, as well as written tests for quantitative data. Data analysis was performed using percentages and predetermined learning completion indicators. The results show that teacher activities in each meeting were carried out in the "Good" criteria and improved to a score of 35. Student activities increased from 14% in the "Good" criteria in the first meeting to 100% in the fourth meeting. Students' psychomotor skills also improved to 100% in the final meeting. Based on these results, the combination of Mind Mapping, Project Based Learning (PJBL), and Cooperative Learning models effectively enhances student activities and psychomotor skills.

Abstract

The integration of science learning and character education in elementary schools has increasingly attracted scholarly attention; however, the field lacks a comprehensive synthesis mapping its intellectual development, dominant themes, and methodological trajectories. This study aims to systematically examine publication trends, thematic structures, research designs, and emerging gaps in science–character integration at the elementary education level. A hybrid Systematic Literature Review (SLR) combined with bibliometric analysis was conducted on 51 Scopus-indexed articles published between 1997 and 2025. Article selection followed the PRISMA protocol, while co-occurrence and co-authorship analyses were performed using VOSviewer to identify conceptual and collaboration patterns. The findings demonstrate a marked growth in publications after 2018, with Southeast Asia as the primary contributor. Three major thematic clusters emerged: inquiry-based and literacy-oriented science learning, character value development emphasizing responsibility and religiosity, and integrative contextual pedagogical approaches. Quantitative experimental designs dominated the literature, primarily examining impacts on students’ motivation, conceptual understanding, and character formation, whereas longitudinal and mixed-method studies remain scarce. The review highlights the need for interdisciplinary and culturally responsive pedagogical frameworks capable of integrating scientific competencies and character development. This study provides an evidence-based reference for researchers and educators seeking to advance holistic science education in elementary schools.
