Abstract

Islamic boarding schools should adapt the learning curriculum to the needs of current developments. Among them is preparing students to communicate in an international language, namely Arabic, especially in the era of industrial revolution 4.0. Unfortunately, Arabic language learning in Islamic boarding schools often still uses classical methods. Even though the use of Arabic as a communication language is really needed by students in the future. This research tries to reveal the opportunities and challenges of learning Arabic within the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR) framework in Islamic boarding schools. The researcher chose the An-Nur 2 Al-Murtadlo Malang Islamic Boarding School, which provides Arabic language learning to its students. This qualitative descriptive research was carried out by means of interviews and observations with caregivers, ustadz (teacher), and students to determine the extent of their understanding of CEFR. As a result, the Islamic boarding school did not implement the CEFR curriculum because they were not familiar with it. Among the opportunities for implementing the CEFR curriculum in Arabic language learning at Islamic boarding schools are improving the quality of learning and learning accessibility, while the challenges faced are curriculum adjustments and limited human resources.

Abstract

In the last decade, many studies on politeness in Arabic have been published on various platforms, but until now the results have not been systematically compiled and used as a module or teaching material. In addition, Arabic pragmatics teaching materials, especially regarding politeness principles and strategies, currently do not refer much to the results of the latest research, even though the results of these studies can be used as a basis in the context of applying, testing, or even developing a theoretical framework on Arabic politeness. Therefore, this study aims to design Arabic pragmatics learning modules, especially concerning politeness in Arabic by utilizing the results of these studies. It is assumed that the development of research-based learning modules can enrich learning materials with the latest findings. By utilizing content and thematic analysis, the research results are analyzed systematically and then designed as a learning module based on the lesson plan that has been set. The result shows a bunch of research about politeness in Arabic published in scientific journals and digital repositories. Almost all research refers to the remarkable theoretical framework of politeness principles proposed by Leech (1983), as well as politeness strategies proposed by Brown & Levinson (1987). Although both are relatively old-school frameworks, they still seem relevant to been implemented by some researchers to date. Furthermore, a systematic study of the results of these studies was then composed and designed into an Arabic pragmatic learning module, especially on the topic of linguistic politeness principles and strategies.

Abstract

This study develops an Articulate Storyline 360-based Interactive Arabic Learning Module for 10th-grade students at MA Al-Kautsar Trenggalek and describes its validity and feasibility. The research employs the R&D method, utilizing the ADDIE model, which encompasses the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Researchers collected quantitative and qualitative data through needs observation, expert validation questionnaires, and trial questionnaires administered to students and teachers. They used observation guidelines, material and media validation sheets, and feasibility questionnaires as data collection instruments. Thirty-eight tenth-grade students at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Kautsar participated as research subjects. Researchers analyzed quantitative data using a rating scale technique to obtain the percentage of validity and feasibility, and analyzed qualitative data descriptively. The results show that researchers successfully developed the module as an interactive learning medium containing audio, video, dialogues, four language skill exercises, and multimedia navigation. Content expert validation scored 78.5%, and media expert validation reached 97.3%. Field testing produced an 89% feasibility rating from teachers and an 81.8% rating from students, indicating that the module is practical for use in learning. These findings confirm that the Articulate Storyline 360-based interactive module is suitable for use as a supporting learning medium at MA Al-Kautsar and meets the need for more varied and interesting learning. Researchers recommend further research to test the effectiveness of the module in improving learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) curriculum in the Arabic Language Education study program in Indonesia. The study utilizes an evaluative research approach to provide critical insights into the effectiveness and challenges of implementing the MBKM curriculum. Data is gathered through a qualitative method, primarily focusing on literature review techniques. The research findings shed light on the dual implementation of the MBKM curriculum within and outside the study program. Specifically, the MBKM curriculum in the Arabic Language Education study program is implemented with a 5-1-2 format. The evaluation highlights certain considerations for the MBKM curriculum in the Arabic Language Education study program. These considerations include addressing the misalignment of course equivalencies or conversions with the MBKM program chosen by students, addressing dual curriculum programs, and mitigating biases in focus areas of study and graduate competencies. Additionally, attention is drawn to the pedagogical competencies that need to be emphasized for non-education students participating in the Teaching Assistance program within Educational Units. Furthermore, the research identifies potential challenges related to internship programs, emphasizing the importance of avoiding creating a cheap workforce that only adheres to industrial logic.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of Daʾirat al-Lughah in supporting students’ learning motivation and Arabic speaking confidence at Muhammadiyah Boarding School Yogyakarta. Employing a qualitative case study with a phenomenological perspective, the study involved language supervisors, student language committee members, and new students. Data were collected through observations, open-ended questionnaires, and supporting needs and response questionnaires. The findings indicate that Daʾirat al-Lughah fosters intrinsic motivation, habitual speaking practice, and confidence in using Arabic through a structured language environment beyond the classroom. Despite challenges related to language awareness, role modeling, and supervision, gradual habituation and program reinforcement supported the sustainability of the policy. This study underscores the role of a structured language environment in facilitating Arabic speaking practice in modern Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

This study examines the complex relationship between globalization and Arabic language education within Islamic Higher Education Institutions (IHEIs). This study employs a qualitative approach with library research methodology. Findings reveal that globalization presents dual impacts: challenges, including digital divides affecting 55% of rural Islamic institutions, the commodification of education threatening formative spiritual goals, and curriculum westernization often misaligned with classical literacy objectives; and opportunities through glocalization approaches integrating modern pedagogies with traditional goals. An analysis of successful programs at IIUM Malaysia, Gontor Indonesia, and Qatar Foundation identifies common success factors, including institutional vision, adequate resource allocation, qualified faculty, and the contextual adaptation of global practices to local needs. The study demonstrates that technology integration through blended learning, mobile applications, and open educational resources can enhance accessibility while maintaining pedagogical quality when implemented thoughtfully. Results show Arabic language education possesses strategic potential as a bridge between Islamic heritage preservation and global engagement through literacy-first approaches, culturally relevant materials, and positioning multilingual competence as an asset for global citizenship. This research contributes to the discourse on educational decolonization and heritage language revitalization, offering evidence-based recommendations for policymakers, institutions, educators, and researchers to enhance the quality, equity, and relevance of Arabic language education in the 21st century.
