Abstract

This study aims to describe the enhancement of students' science communication skills through the application of guided inquiry learning models in laboratory activities. The method used to describe science communication skills is to use pre-experiment research. The samples used in this study were 60 physics education students in the odd semester 2023/2024 who took basic physics practicum courses. The implementation of the guided inquiry learning model in the four meetings. The results of improving science communication skills were based on three indicators that researchers have limited. The result analysis used non-test instruments like observation sheets. The sub-scientific communication skills are: 1) searching information, 2) scientific writing, and 3) representing information. Based on the observation results, it was found that the application of the guided inquiry learning model can train students' science communication skills in sub-skills of seeking information with a percentage increase of 74%, sub-skills of scientific writing with a rise of 67% and sub-skills of representing information at an increase in percentage of 76%. Each average score on the third and fourth meetings shows that science communication skills are in the very skilled category

Abstract

Currently, schools are expected to be able to train students to get used to solving higher-order thinking questions, one of which is through the textbooks the teacher chooses to teach. This study aimed to analyze the types of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) questions in Physics textbooks for class XI students. Data was collected using documentation techniques. The documents are physics textbooks from four publishers: Erlangga, Grafindo, Yrama Widya, and Intan Pariwara. Data analysis in the form of the percentage of HOTS questions in each book was calculated quantitatively and then discussed qualitatively related to these results. The results showed that the distribution of HOTS questions in (1) Erlangga textbooks was 8% in chapter 1 and 8% in chapter 2; (2) Grafindo textbooks by 20% in chapter 1 and 20% in chapter 2; (3) Yrama Widya textbooks by 43% in chapter 1 and 50% in chapter 2; (4) Intan Pariwara textbooks by 55% in chapter 1 and 40% in chapter 2. Among the four textbooks, the book published by Intan Pariwara has the highest distribution of HOTS questions. Based on this result, teachers can use this book to carry out learning evaluations to measure students' HOTS abilities.

Abstract

This research aims to get the alternative concepts of students regarding the concept of energy in life using integrative instruments. The concept of energy in life consists of two topics, photosynthesis and cellular respiration. A sample of 375 students was established using the random sampling technique. They were from 14 junior high schools in Palembang City using the stratified cluster sampling. The instrument used consists of 30 free-response. The results of this research show that students understand the concept that photosynthesis can only occur in leaves (23.70%) and takes place during the day (33%) by utilizing oxygen (25.80%) while existing sunlight functions as the lighting in the photosynthesis process (17.20%) and chlorophyll plays a role in providing coloring to plants (16.50%). On the topic of cellular respiration, students understand that cellular respiration is an activity for the formation and addition of energy in living things (30.40%) and can occur in all parts of the body of living things (31.30%). Both ordinary cellular respiration and fermentation are carried out utilizing oxygen (72.40%). The results show that the alternative concepts possessed by students are very diverse with basic concepts, even though these basic concepts have been studied at previous levels of education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the argumentation abilities of students in class VIII-1 in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 academic year at SMP Negeri 57 Palembang in the material of style and motion using the Toulmin's Argumentation Pattern (TAP) model. The Toulmin argumentation model is an instrument used to process arguments presented by students which consists of 6 indicators namely Claim, Data, Warrant, Backing, Qualifier, and Rebuttal. The method used in this research is descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The data collection technique was carried out in two stages, namely tests in the form of description questions and non-tests in the form of interviews with subject teachers. The results of the test research show that the level of students' argumentation abilities is low, where they are only at level 1 with a percentage of 58.10%, level 2 with a percentage of 30.95%, and level 3 with a percentage of 10.95% but no one is at level 4 yet and level 5. These results indicate that argumentation skills are still in the low category. The research results obtained that students have not been able to connect between material and concepts correctly. Then, learning activities carried out for some time were constrained by adjustments to the end of PPKM which had lasted for 3 years. Students are still adapting to the learning process that has begun to be carried out face-to-face. A teacher expected to be able to immediately provide the right learning process with the existing conditions

Abstract

Issues related to the quality of textbooks are often a topic of discussion in science. However, in various education systems, some textbooks have effectively incorporated the nature of science, while others are still lacking in this aspect. It is well-known that the nature of science serves as a crucial foundation that should be applied in science education, especially in physics. This is because the nature of science plays a role as the basis to guide a more holistic learning approach and an exploratory process in understanding knowledge about the natural world. Hence, a study was conducted to analyze physics textbooks to analyze the percentage of nature of science content and describe the proportion of nature of science aspects in high school physics textbooks. The research employed a mixed methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative research. The quantitative research section involved the development of the theory, including observations and data collection for accuracy. The quantitative research portion explained how to obtain percentage data for the ten aspects of the nature of science under investigation. The study results showed that the textbook published by Grafindo, referred to as Book B, presented the most aspects of the nature of science compared to the other two textbooks. Quotations in Book B were presented explicitly, although some quotations were presented implicitly. Books A and C were found to be less inclusive of the nature of science aspects in the measurement material. The proportion of the appearance of the nature of science in Book A was 33%, in Book B, it was 53%, and in Book C, it was 27%. Overall, all three evaluated textbooks explicitly conveyed aspects of the nature of science. The implications of this research highlight the importance of incorporating the nature of science aspects in science learning materials to enhance understanding of the nature of science, as the nature of science is a complex concept and serves as a fundamental foundation for studying science.

Abstract

Kurikulum merdeka lebih fokus dalam proyek sehingga siswa lebih aktif dan bisa terjun langsug dalam proses pembelajaran . Oleh karena itu, guru dituntut untuk berinovasi dalam menyusun perangkat pembelajaran seperti e-modul. Pelatihan pembuatan e-modul berbasis kearifan lokal ini bertujuan untuk membantu para guru mendapat informai valid mengenai kearifan lokal yang ada di lingkungan sekitar kemudian dijadikan bahan ajar untuk membantu  peserta didik dalam memahami urgensi penerapan kearifan lokal dalam pembelajaran. Metode yang digunakan adalah model pendampingan, yang berupa kegiatan pelatihan menggunakan metode persentasi, diskusi, pendampinagan pembuatan e-modul. Peningkatan keterampilan guru dapat dilihat melalui hasil analisis nilai n-gain dari pretest dan posttest yang diberikan kepada peserta. Hasil kegiatan ini dapat dilihat dari peningkatan nilai pretest dan posttest yang diperoleh guru. Sehingga, kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan berhasil memberikan dampak positif pada kemampuan guru-guru IPA dalam pembuatan e-modul. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa program pengabdian pada masyarakat merupakan salah satu perwujudan dalam melakasanakan Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi ini mampu memberikan manfaat bagi para guru IPA yang tergabung kedalam MGMP Guru IPA Kabupaten Musi Banyuasin.

Abstract

Keterampilan berliterasi bagi guru IPA dibutuhkan agar terampil memfasilitasi pengembangan literasi siswa. Kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan bertujuan meningkatkan kemampuaan guru IPA SMP di Kabupaten Muaraenim dalam menyusun soal-soal literasi sains berbasis Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTs). Peserta kegiatan adalah guru yang tergabung dalam musyawarah guru mata pelajaran IPA Kabupaten Muaraenim. Kegiatan dilaksanakan dalam bentuk pelatihan selama 3 hari dilanjutkan dengan tugas mandiri. Kemampuan atau pemahaman guru terhadap penyusunan soal-soal (asesmen) dan literasi sains dikumpulkan melalui pretest dan posttest. Akhir kegiatan peserta memberikan penilaiam terhadap penyelenggaraan pelatihan yang telah diselenggarakan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan terjadi peningkatan pemahaman guru terhadap penyusunan soal-soal dan literasi sains dengan capaian N-gain 88,7% dan guru memberikan penilaian sangat baik terhadap pemyelenggaraan kegiatan penyusunan soal-soal literasi sains berbasis HOTs. Simpulan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini bahwa pelatihan penyusunan soal-soal literasi sains telah mampu meningkatkan keterampilan guru dalam menyusun perangkat asesmen yang berliterasi.

Abstract

Global warming remains a critical global challenge that affects multiple dimensions of life and demands immediate, coordinated action. Peatlands, which have a dual capacity to either mitigate or exacerbate global warming, are increasingly subject to degradation. Addressing this issue requires a transformative approach to science education, emphasizing sustainability. This transformation can be achieved through the development of e-worksheets that integrate the PISA 2025 Science Framework and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). This study aims to design e-worksheets for science education that incorporate these frameworks, with a focus on elucidating the role of peatlands in the global warming phenomenon. The research adopts a development research methodology based on the Rowntree model, involving 12 tenth-grade students from a state high school in South Sumatra during the 2023/2024 academic year as participants in the product evaluation phase. The evaluation method is driven by Tessmer's formative evaluation paradigm, which includes self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one evaluation, and small group evaluation. Interviews, walkthroughs, and questionnaires are among the data collection methods used. The analysis results show that the expert review phase produced an average validation score of 94.2%, which is classified as extremely valid. Furthermore, the one-to-one and small group evaluation stages yielded average practicality values of 86.25% and 97.5%, respectively, classifying them as extremely practical. These findings suggest that the produced e-worksheets, which are geared toward the PISA 2025 Science Framework and ESD, are both valid and practicable for classroom use, particularly in terms of improving students' understanding of the essential role of peatlands in the global warming catastrophe.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to improve the problem solving abilities of students in class IVD at SD Negeri 127 Palembang through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model with the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach. This type of research is classroom action research with research subjects of 30 class IVD students at SD Negeri 127 Palembang. The data collection techniques used were observation, tests, interviews and field notes. This research was conducted in 2 cycles on 30 July 2024 and 7 August 2024. Before conducting classroom research, an initial test was carried out to determine students' problem-solving abilities. From the initial test results, it was found that the average score for students' problem solving abilities was 60.72. In cycle I the average value of students' problem solving abilities increased to 67.74. There are 19 students who have scored above the KKM, namely ≥75, while 11 others still have scores below the KKM. In cycle II the average value of students' problem solving abilities was 80.67. There are 25 students who have scored above the KKM, namely ≥75, while 5 others still have scores below the KKM. Thus it can be concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model with the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach can improve students' problem solving abilities.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan motivasi belajar peserta didik SDN 34 Palembang melalui penerapan model pembelajaran Problem-Based Learning (PBL). Metode yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK), yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus, masing-masing meliputi tahap perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 30 peserta didik kelas V SDN 34 Palembang. Data dikumpulkan melalui angket motivasi belajar dan observasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan teknik deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata skor motivasi belajar meningkat dari 45,45% pada pra-siklus menjadi 77,48% pada siklus I, dengan kategori "Sedang" (N-Gain 0,59). Pada siklus II, rata-rata skor meningkat menjadi 96,65%, dengan kategori "Tinggi" (N-Gain 0,85), dan 100% peserta didik berada pada kategori "Sangat Baik". Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan model PBL efektif dalam meningkatkan motivasi belajar peserta didik. Adapun implikasi dari penelitian ini adalah perlunya integrasi metode PBL dalam pembelajaran untuk menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang interaktif, relevan, dan mampu meningkatkan motivasi peserta didik secara berkelanjutan.
