Abstract

IMPLEMENTATION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF COCONUT SHELL WASTE AS AN EFFORT TO INCREASE COMMUNITY INCOME. The problems that occur in the community of Sei Paham Village are not yet optimal use of coconut, which is one of the largest coconut production villages in Sei Kepayang District. It requires the acquisition of science and technology in maximizing coconut shell waste into charcoal. The purpose of the service is to implement science and technology in processing coconut shell waste into charcoal as an effort to increase the income of the people of Sei Paham Village. The community empowerment method uses participatory learning and action to be very useful in increasing knowledge and skills by involving community participation in several ways, including: (1) analysis of the situation of potential derivative products from coconut waste; (2) able to design the charcoal combustion devices that have been produced with the service team; and (3) skilled in quality charcoal production. The results of dedication are seen in increasing income and skills in utilizing shell waste. The application of science and technology in developing the potential of shell waste also has a positive impact on the surrounding environment, this is there is no longer a coconut shell buildup because the community has been able to optimize the shell using a coconut shell combustion device to become charcoal.

Abstract

In the 21st Century, advances in information and technology have spurred open access to economic learning for preservice teachers. Reinventing competencies needs to be done to keep pace with the advancement of knowledge and technology in the industrial revolution era. This paper aims to investigate the competence of preservice teachers of economics in the industrial revolution era. The literature review is used to find the challenges faced and the competencies needed by prospective economics teachers. Various relevant and credible literature (Science Direct, Taylor Francis, Emerald) for two decades have been fast reviewed and comprehensively to show the phases, levels, knowledge, competencies, and cognitive-noncognitive domains. The review findings reveal the challenges that preservice teachers of economics face as a provision for mastering competencies as teachers in the industrial revolution era. Next, a synthesis of the competency reviews is needed for preservice teachers of economics to present relevant and credible studies. Finally, this paper has implications for competencies that need to be prepared or reinvented through actions and policies that lead to professional economics teachers.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the preservice teacher internship program influences students’ perception of the teaching profession by examining the variables of reaction, learning experiences, behavior, and the mediating role of results. By examining these variables, the study synthesizes findings from multiple studies and incorporates them. Using a survey conducted among students at a university in Medan, Indonesia, the study collected data electronically through the distribution of a questionnaire via Google Forms. The sample consisted of 252 students, and partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was employed to analyze the data. The outer models (measurement) and inner model (structural relations among latent variables) were validated and evaluated. The results indicate significant positive direct effects of reaction, learning, and behavior on results. Moreover, the results from the preservice teacher internship program have a significant positive effect on students’ perceptions. The study also reveals that results act as a partial mediator in the relationships between behavior and perception, learning and perception, and reaction and perception.

Abstract

This study investigates how cognitive presence and affective connectedness impact social presence. We employed Partial Least Square (PLS-SEM) to analyze the data (N=679). Respondents were gathered from an online survey questionnaire by Indonesian and Malaysia undergraduate students in three universities: Universitas Negeri Medan (n=405), Universitas Negeri Malang (n=215), and Universiti Putra Malaysia (n=59). The result of this study indicates that in terms of the overall sample, cognitive presence and affective connectedness were found to have a positive and significant effect on social presence. If we peel the sample based on three universities, the result is consistent in Universitas Negeri Medan and Universiti Putra Malaysia samples. However, not the case in Universitas Negeri Malang. In this sample, affective connectedness was found to not significantly impact social presence. The findings are discussed in detail related to the key factors of social presence that have unique characteristics from the three campuses. This study suggests that in establishing students’ social presence, the teacher needs to utilize learning that intensifies cognitive presence and affective connectedness in order to foster the social presence.
