Abstract

Authentic assessment based on competency has become an essential component of 21st-century learning, as it enables comprehensive evaluation of students’ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor competencies. This study aims to analyze the implementation of authentic assessment through a literature review of 24 published articles examining its practices, effectiveness, and challenges across various educational levels. The analysis shows that authentic assessment positively contributes to student engagement, higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), and the development of collaboration, communication, creativity, and character. The assessment instruments developed in these studies are reported to be valid and reliable for measuring holistic competencies. However, several challenges persist, particularly regarding teachers’ ability to design rubrics, formulate performance indicators, and assess affective and psycho motor domains objectively. Limited time, administrative workload, and adaptation to online learning further hinder its implementation. This review highlights the need for strengthening teacher capacity, providing standardized assessment instruments, and ensuring policy support to optimize the sustainable application of authentic assessment in 21st-century learning.

Abstract

Traditional Javanese gamelan music, particularly its songs, is an integral part of Indonesian culture and identity. However, gamelan music notation remains manual, disorganized, and difficult to access. This poses challenges to balanced education, community sustainability, and digital preservation. This study introduces an automated data extraction and gamelan notation transcription process for transforming Javanese gamelan notation in PDF format into a structured CSV. The innovation process involves parsing PDF-based Kepatihan notation, symbol-to-number conversion, musical section recognition (e.g., buka, lagu, suwuk), and organization in gatra units—each of four melodic notes. The process produces detailed metadata, such as song title, tuning (laras), mode (pathet), and gendhing classification. To evaluate extraction accuracy, the validation period also included a comparison of the converted gatra with the original PDF. The results show that the system achieved 100% accuracy on a sample size of 10 gatra and reduced processing time by 97.5% compared with manual methods. The completed dataset consists of 31 gendhing songs, providing an analyzable and scalable collection for future musicological research and education training. This study contributes to the fields of Music Information Retrieval (MIR) and Digital Humanities by enabling the efficient, standardized digitization of historical music notation. This structured dataset empowers the development of automatic notation generators, making inclusive learning tools accessible to novices and facilitating the documentation of cultural heritage through technology.

Abstract

This study investigates how language functions as a medium of power representation within political texts through the perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). Political discourse often embeds ideological structures that influence public perception, construct dominance, and legitimize authority. The purpose of this research is to analyze linguistic features and discursive strategies used in selected political speeches to uncover implicit power relations. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive design, this study adopts Fairclough’s three-dimensional CDA framework, focusing on textual analysis, discourse practice, and sociocultural context. Data were collected from three political speeches delivered during national political events in Indonesia and were analyzed through coding, thematic classification, and interpretive discourse analysis. Findings indicate that lexical choices, modality, metaphors, and intertextuality are strategically employed to naturalize political ideologies, strengthen authority, and shape collective identities. The study concludes that political texts do not merely communicate information but actively construct and maintain power structures. These findings highlight the importance of CDA in fostering critical awareness of language use in political communication and encourage further research on multimodal political discourse.
