Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of affiliate marketing strategies carried out by influencers on Generation Z's purchasing decisions on the TikTok platform. Through a qualitative approach with a case study method, data was collected through in-depth interviews with 10 TikTok influencers, questionnaires of 50 Generation Z respondents, content observation, and analysis of related documents. The results show that trust in influencers, content quality, and special offers (such as discounts) are the dominant factors influencing Generation Z's purchasing decisions. Authentic, entertaining, and informational content—such as tutorials or product reviews—has been shown to be more effective in increasing audience engagement than conventional promotions. These findings are in line with previous research that emphasized the importance of transparency and social proof in digital marketing, but this study enriches the literature with a specific focus on the mechanism of affiliate marketing on TikTok. The practical implications of this study include recommendations for businesses to choose influencers that are relevant to the target market, increase content transparency, and take advantage of economic incentives. For academics, this research provides a new perspective on the dynamics of business communication on short content-based social media platforms. The study's main limitation lies in its limited scope on TikTok and Generation Z, so further research is needed to compare the effectiveness of similar strategies on other platforms or different generations.

Abstract

Motherhood has increasingly become a topic shaped and negotiated in digital spaces, especially on social media. This study examines how Instagram shapes the construction of the "ideal mother" through the experiences of young mothers who actively use the platform. Using a qualitative approach, this research explores the negotiation process between societal expectations and personal realities in mothering. In-depth interviews with selected informants reveal that while Instagram serves as a practical and inspirational source of parenting knowledge, it also imposes emotional pressure due to the prevailing social norms of ideal motherhood. The findings suggest that young mothers actively filter and adapt information according to their unique family contexts, demonstrating agency in their engagement with digital motherhood narratives. Furthermore, this study highlights Instagram's dual role in shaping young mothers' behavior. While it offers a supportive community and valuable parenting insights, it also fosters unrealistic expectations that can lead to stress and anxiety. Understanding this dynamic is essential for future discussions on media literacy and the psychological effects of social media on parenting identities. This study contributes to the broader discourse on digital motherhood and offers insights into how social media platforms can be leveraged to provide more balanced and diverse representations of motherhood.

Abstract

The development of communication technology brings forth new media with various multiplatforms. Information spreads instantaneously to all corners of the world through abundant media devices. In social media spaces, every individual can produce informational content and disseminate it, so it appears as a new phenomenon of citizen journalism. Individuals act as both producers and targets of social media content simultaneously. Ironically, due to freedom of expression on social media, various hoaxes appear intentionally or unintentionally and are widely distributed. This study aims to explore the official Instagram account that handles hoaxes in West Java Province and provide a digital literacy education in their post. This study uses the content analysis method, which efficiently investigates media content on both printed form and digital posts. In addition, it also uses descriptive content analysis to describe in detail a message or a specific content. The study object is Instagram @jabarsaberhoaks with an analysis unit of information items about hoaxes and various digital literacy on Instagram @jabarsaberhoaks in 2020.  In total, their number reaches 900 posts. The result of this study shows that the most common hoax is fake news, such as manipulated content, misleading content, fake news, and fabricated content with health, political, and economic themes. Explicitly or implicitly, digital literacy education about hoaxes can be obtained by accessing the information contained in Instagram accounts. The implication is that it is necessary to study the extent of this educational content responded by the public, so media messages can effectively and efficiently be in the form of educational media about interactive hoaxes.

Abstract

This article analyzes how the virality of photojournalistic images can serve as an effective development communication strategy in the digital age. The case examined is the work of Raisan Al Farisi documenting the struggles of elementary school children in Sukaluyu Village, Cianjur Regency, who crossed a river without a bridge in order to attend school. The photograph went viral on social media and ultimately prompted the government to construct a bridge at that location. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study method and the social semiotic theory of Kress and van Leeuwen. The findings indicate that three semiotic meanings are embedded in Raisan Al Farisi’s photographic work. First, Representational Meaning: the photograph presents the social reality of rural children facing risks and unequal access to education, with the act of crossing the river becoming a symbol of struggle and hope for the future. Second, Interactive Meaning: the use of an eye-level angle constructs a strong emotional connection between the photographic subject and the audience, transforming viewers from passive observers into active participants in the children’s experience. Third, Compositional Meaning: the diagonal structure and color contrast between the red-and-white uniforms and the river water create visual tension that directs attention toward the meaning of struggle, emphasizing the message that education demands courage and sacrifice. Raisan Al Farisi’s photograph demonstrates that visual power can mobilize public awareness and serve as a catalyst for tangible change in social development.
