Abstract

The various challenges and difficulties faced by college and university freshmen (new students) during the COVID-19 pandemic can affect their well-being. This well-being condition is influenced by gratitude and religiosity, as well as the role of religiosity in moderating these relations, are the main objectives of this study. The research was conducted on new students in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic years (N = 2048). Data collection was made through surveys by distributing online questionnaires, including the Gratitude Questionnaire-6, the Short Muslim Belief and Practice Scale, and the WEMWBS Scale. Data analysis was performed using multiple regression and a moderation test. The results show an influence of gratitude (β = .928, p < .01) and religiosity (β = .371 p < .01) on well-being. Religiosity is demonstrated to moderate the relationship between gratitude and well-being (F = 251.656, p < .01). The study has empirical implications in the form of the theory that career achievement and well-being orientation for new students will face various problems, but can be helped by introducing self-protective factors in the form of well-being, religiosity, and gratitude.

Abstract

Resilience is a crucial element in helping teachers manage various pressures and demands stemming from dual roles as educators and homemakers. This study aims to examine the influence of self-efficacy and religiosity on resilience, as well as to test the moderating role of religiosity in the relationship between self-efficacy and resilience. The study involved 167 female teachers from state madrasahs in Medan City as respondents. Data collection was conducted through a survey using online questionnaires employing three measurement tools: the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), the Short Muslim Belief and Practice Scale (Short-MPBS), and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale-25 (CD-RISC-25). Data analysis was carried out using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). This research offers novel insights into understanding resilience among female madrasah teachers by introducing religiosity as a moderating variable. The findings indicated that: 1) there is a positive relationship between self-efficacy, religiosity, and resilience; 2) religiosity does not moderate the relationship between self-efficacy and resilience. This study reveals that although religiosity serves as spiritual support, the dominance of self-efficacy highlights the importance of tangible actions in overcoming challenges. The study underscores the significance of building self-efficacy and provides new insights into developing support strategies for female madrasah teachers. Field data support the hypotheses.

Abstract

A research team at SMP Negeri 17 Medan began observing the desire of ninth-grade students to learn using the Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) method. Students from classes IX-A and IX-B, representing a total population of 25, with 8 samples taken from each class, were selected as the sample for this quantitative research study, which employed a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Tests were used as the instrument in this investigation. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 17 Medan demonstrated a significant increase in their enthusiasm for learning after receiving Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). This is evidenced by the fact that the average learning motivation scores increased after the implementation of the REBT method. Furthermore, the hypothesis test results reinforced these findings by showing that the experimental group had a much higher level of learning motivation compared to the two control groups. Therefore, it is safe to say that REBT was effective. It made students more motivated to learn, more confident, more enthusiastic about tackling difficult tasks, and ultimately more resilient. This indicates that the REBT approach could be a potentially effective strategy for improving the quality of learning and academic achievement of students in the school environment.

Abstract

This research examines the application of multiple intelligences-based learning strategies in Islamic religious education learning in several elementary schools in Medan, including planning, implementation, and evaluation, as well as supporting and inhibiting factors, to assess the effectiveness and challenges in supporting diverse learning. This research uses qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach to examine multiple intelligences-based learning strategies in Islamic religious education in four Elementary Schools (SD) in Medan, namely Panca Budi Private Elementary School, Anbata Plus Elementary School, Shafiyyatul Amaliyah Elementary School, and Brigjend Katamso Private Elementary School, through observation, interviews and documentation, with data analysis using the Miles and Huberman model and testing the validity of the data through triangulation. The research results show that teachers plan to prepare syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments based on multiple intelligence strategies. A multiple intelligences approach to religious learning recognizes each student's unique intelligence, increases their engagement, and expands the development of numerous relevant aspects of intelligence. This strategy encourages students' learning motivation and creates an inclusive environment while teachers adapt the centre's syllabus and use multiple learning methods. Evaluation is based on the student's learning process and intelligence, with the school and parents actively supporting this process. Although supporting factors include teachers' mastery of the material and student's interest in learning, some obstacles include limited perceptions about Islamic religious education, a limited evaluation system, and a lack of supervision of teaching by school principals and school supervisors. The implications of this research contribute to educational literature on integrating multiple intelligence strategies in religious learning, which opens up space for further research development.
