Abstract

In the digital era, preschoolers spent more time playing on their gadgets than with their peers. The excessive use of gadgets (including laptops, cellphones, tablets, and similar electronic devices) can have negative impacts on preschool-age children. This study analyzes the determining factors that influence the duration of gadget use in preschool children. The study used a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach involving 318 parents who were selected using cluster sampling. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the duration of gadget use and the gender of the parents (p = 0.001), parental education (p = 0.035), family economic status (p = 0.018), educational media (p = 0.039), distraction media (p = 0.029), and psychosocial development (p = 0.001). The factors that most influence the duration of gadget use in children are family economic status with lower income adjusted odds ratio (AOR) (0.327) 95% CI (0.106–0.947), educational media is to add information AOR (0.367) 95% CI (0.183–-0.736), distraction media so that the child doesn't fuss AOR (0.392) 95% CI (0.203–0.758) and children do not have psychosocial disorders AOR (0.348), 95% CI (0.189–0.638). The results of the study can offer a basis for developing the latest nursing interventions in providing education and support to parents and children when using gadgets. Keywords: factors of gadget use, parents, preschool age   Abstrak Faktor Penentu Lama Penggunaan Gawai pada Anak Usia Prasekolah.

Abstract

Background: The management of dyspnea in cancer patients still faces various challenges. Non-pharmacological interventions are increasingly recognized as effective, potentially cost-effective, and effective approaches to managing this symptom. Purpose: To identify, evaluate, and analyze evidence regarding the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions in managing dyspnea in cancer patients. Method: This systematic review followed PRISMA guidelines and conducted a literature search across five databases (Sage Journals, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Springerlink, and Google Scholar). Inclusion criteria included English-language articles published between 2015 and 2025, with a randomized controlled trial (RCT) or cohort study design. From 59,225 articles identified, 11 studies met the inclusion criteria for analysis. Results: A total of 1,369 cancer patients were analyzed across 10 RCTs and one cohort study. Various non-pharmacological interventions proven effective in managing dyspnea include Tai Chi, aerobic exercise, Respiratory Distress Symptom Intervention (RDSI), Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT), home-based education programs, and acupuncture. Conclusion: Non-pharmacological interventions can be an important component in the management of dyspnea in cancer patients, significantly contributing to symptom reduction and overall patient well-being.

Abstract

Background: Children undergoing invasive procedures in hospitals, such as IV insertion or injection, often experience significant pain and anxiety, especially in critically ill children. Non-pharmacological interventions such as parental holding have been studied as an effective approach in reducing children's pain responses during procedures. Purpose: To analyze the scientific evidence regarding the role of parental holding in pain management in children during invasive procedures, including in critically ill children. Method: A search was conducted through PubMed, Scopus, and ScienceDirect databases following PRISMA guidelines. Inclusion criteria included RCT design, population of children undergoing invasive procedures, parental holding intervention, and outcomes in the form of pain intensity and/or anxiety. A total of 1,324 articles were identified, while 8 studies met the criteria and were analyzed narratively. Results: Showed that parental holding is effective in reducing children's pain and anxiety, as well as increasing emotional comfort for both children and parents. Despite its proven benefits, implementation of this intervention is still limited in clinical practice and lacks standardized guidelines, especially in pediatric intensive care units. Conclusion: Parental hugs have been shown to be effective in reducing procedural pain in infants and children during invasive procedures.

Abstract

Motor impairments are a frequent and disabling consequence of vincristine‑based chemotherapy in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). These deficits can compromise daily functioning and long‑term quality of life. This systematic review aimed to synthesize evidence on the prevalence and characteristics of motor impairments among pediatric ALL patients undergoing chemotherapy.  A comprehensive search was conducted across PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, ClinicalKey, and ClinicalKey Nursing, supplemented by citation tracking. Observational studies published up to May 2025 were screened using the PEOS framework. Ten eligible studies involving 580 children were included. Outcomes assessed encompassed fine motor precision, manual dexterity, coordination, balance, agility, and strength. Motor impairments were consistently reported across all studies, with prevalence varying by treatment phase and country. During induction, prevalence ranged from 48% (USA) to 62.5% (Netherlands). In consolidation, rates reached 75.5% (Colombia). The highest prevalence was observed in the maintenance phase, with Turkey reporting 83.9% overall impairment and specific deficits in fine motor integration (70.6%), strength (74.4%), and upper‑limb coordination (61.1%). Finland showed the lowest overall prevalence (31.8%). Motor impairments are common and persistent in children with ALL receiving vincristine‑based chemotherapy, particularly during the maintenance phase. These findings underscore the need for standardized monitoring protocols, early detection, and timely rehabilitation strategies to mitigate long‑term functional decline and optimize quality of life in pediatric oncology care.
