Abstract

Kemunculan AI generatif, khususnya ChatGPT, telah memicu disrupsi signifikan dalam lanskap pendidikan tinggi, menghadirkan potensi sekaligus tantangan dalam penulisan akademik mahasiswa. Studi tinjauan pustaka ini bertujuan untuk mensintesis literatur ilmiah terkini guna memetakan strategi pemanfaatan dan tantangan yang muncul dari penggunaan teknologi ini. Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis tematik terhadap 15 artikel ilmiah yang relevan dari tahun 2023 hingga 2025. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa secara strategis memanfaatkan AI sebagai asisten penulisan untuk brainstorming dan perbaikan gramatikal, serta sebagai alat bantu belajar yang personal. Namun, pemanfaatan ini diiringi oleh tantangan serius, meliputi ancaman terhadap integritas akademik, masalah akurasi informasi dan referensi fiktif, potensi penurunan keterampilan berpikir kritis, serta isu kontekstual seperti kesenjangan digital di Indonesia. Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa AI generatif adalah alat bermata dua yang menuntut adanya transformasi fundamental dalam praktik penilaian dan perumusan kebijakan institusional yang jelas untuk memastikan pemanfaatan yang etis dan bertanggung jawab.

Abstract

Idiomatic expressions represent one of the most complex challenges in audiovisual translation due to their culture-specific nature and resistance to literal rendering. Despite growing scholarly interest in subtitle translation, studies focusing on idiomatic expressions in fantasy film subtitles within the English–Indonesian language pair remain limited. This study analyzes the types of idiomatic expressions and the translation strategies employed in the Indonesian subtitles of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004). A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with twelve idiomatic expressions selected and analyzed using Baker's (2011) framework. The findings reveal that pure idioms constitute the largest category (50%), followed by figurative idioms (33.3%) and semi-idioms (16.7%). Translation by paraphrase is the dominant strategy (66.7%), followed by using an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form (25%), and translation by cultural substitution (8.3%). The dominance of paraphrase reflects the significant cultural and linguistic distance between British English and Indonesian, which frequently necessitates the dissolution of culturally specific imagery in favor of communicative clarity. This study concludes that non-literal and adaptive translation strategies are essential in conveying idiomatic meaning effectively for Indonesian audiences.

Abstract

World War II was a major event that occurred in the past that had many impacts on human life, both in terms of economy, social, and culture. In addition, World War II also had an impact on literary works. Many writers criticized and expressed their emotions through literary works. One of them is the novel An English Murder by Cyril Hare which is set in the post-World War II era. This study aims to analyze how the novel An English Murder reflects what happened in Britain at that time using a qualitative descriptive method. Using Lucien Goldmann's theory of human facts, which emphasizes that literary works relate to the social structures that shape them, this study concludes that the novel An English Murder clearly depicts the social conditions in England after World War II. In addition, the research also shows that although An English Murder is a work of detective fiction, it manages to portray a broad social and political reality, as well as provide an overview of the problems that occurred in post-World War II Britain.

Abstract

KH Ahmad Shohibul Wafa Tajul 'Arifin's (Abah Anom) thoughts on Islamic education have important relevance in the revitalization of education in Indonesia, especially in the aspect of exemplary. This study aims to identify and analyze the implementation of Abah Anom's teachings in shaping student character at Suryalaya Islamic Boarding School and evaluate its impact on Islamic education as a whole. This research uses a descriptive method with an ethnographic model to understand the implementation of education at the Suryalaya Islamic Boarding School. Data were collected through observation and interviews with teachers and students. The implementation of Abah Anom's TQN teachings in Suryalaya succeeded in shaping the character of Muslims who have the quality of dhikr, thought, and charity. The educational approach that prioritizes akhlakul karimah and exemplary habituation by teachers has proven effective in creating a positive learning environment. The results show that education based on exemplary can overcome the decline in the values of formal education. Abah Anom's teachings emphasize the importance of spiritual and moral relationships in education, which can be a solution to achieving national goals in the context of Islamic education in Indonesia.

Abstract

Song lyrics function as linguistic signs that convey both literal and implied meanings through symbolic expressions. Although previous studies have applied Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory to analyze song lyrics, limited attention has been given to how ordinary lexical items and everyday expressions function as emotional symbols in contemporary pop music. This study aims to identify the denotative and connotative meanings in the lyrics of “XXL” by LANY and to examine how ordinary expressions are transformed into symbolic representations of intimacy, nostalgia, and emotional attachment through Barthes’ second-order signification. This study employed a qualitative descriptive design. The data source consisted of the official lyrics of “XXL” by LANY. The entire lyrics were examined, while five representative lyric lines were purposively selected for detailed analysis. The data were analyzed using Barthes’ concepts of first-order and second-order signification. The findings reveal that expressions such as small-town dreams, hoodie, Miss Americana, California, and double-XL possess both denotative and connotative meanings. Through second-order signification, these ordinary lexical items function as symbolic signs representing shared aspirations, intimacy, admiration, nostalgia, and enduring emotional attachment. These findings demonstrate that contemporary pop lyrics communicate emotional experiences not only through literal meanings but also through symbolic associations. The study contributes to semiotic studies by providing a deeper understanding of emotional signification in contemporary pop song lyrics through Barthes’ semiotic framework.
