Abstract

The rapid development of technology has brought significant changes in various fields, including education. Maths education, often considered a challenging subject, can now be transformed by the use of technology to improve students' understanding and learning outcomes. This research uses the literature review method to explore various studies and publications that discuss the role of technology in mathematics education. The results show that technology has a crucial role in the transformation of mathematics education. The use of visualisation software, educational apps and e-learning platforms has been shown to help students better understand abstract mathematical concepts. Technology also enables more adaptive and personalised learning, provides a variety of resources that can be accessed anytime and anywhere, and increases student engagement and motivation. The instant evaluation and feedback provided by technology helps students to immediately correct mistakes and understand the material more deeply. In addition, the integration of technology in mathematics learning also helps to improve students' digital skills, which is important for their future.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in improving students' mathematics skills through a literature review. PBL is a teaching method that places students at the centre of learning with an emphasis on solving contextual problems relevant to everyday life. The literature review showed that PBL can improve students' understanding of mathematical concepts and develop their critical and creative thinking skills. In addition, this method also strengthens students' collaborative and communication skills through structural group work. However, the successful implementation of PBL is influenced by several factors, such as the availability of resources, teachers' skills in implementing PBL, and the support of the school environment. To optimise learning outcomes, training for teachers and full support from all parties involved in the education process are required. The results of this study are expected to provide insights for educators about the potential of PBL as an effective method in improving students' mathematics skills.

Abstract

This research aims to identify mathematical objects in the building of Tugu Thomas Parr Bengkulu. The Thomas Parr Monument area is located on the coast of Bengkulu City. This research is descriptive qualitative research using an ethnographic approach. Data collection was done through observation, interview, and documentation. Data analysis techniques are done by collecting, reducing, presenting, and drawing conclusions. This research shows that the shapes of the Thomas Parr Monument Bengkulu building have mathematical concepts, including half circle, half sphere, rectangle, tube, congruence, and parallel lines. These results positively impact mathematics education because they can be used as a contextual learning medium through colonial heritage objects. Thus, the mathematical concepts in the Thomas Parr Bengkulu Monument can be used to introduce and understand geometric concepts through colonial heritage so that learning becomes more relevant, which can then be developed into teaching materials such as modules, LKPD, etc.

Abstract

Mathematics knowledge in schools should be sourced from scholarly knowledge. Education not sourced from scholarly knowledge will risk errors in concepts, such as invalidly taught material, that can lead to misconceptions. This study aims to analyze the transposition of knowledge on the concept of lines and angles from scholarly knowledge to knowledge to be taught. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The data source in this study, namely scholarly knowledge, was obtained by analyzing books in universities, while knowledge to be taught was obtained by analyzing mathematics textbooks used in schools. This study's results show a transposition process in the concept of lines and angles, namely in the definition of lines, the types of lines, the position of two lines, and the relationship of angles in two parallel lines. This research can later be the basis for improving mathematical knowledge so that student's understanding of the concept of lines and angles is expected to be more complete based on scholarly knowledge.

Abstract

The ethnomathematics combines mathematics with the culture and traditions of society. The Culture is all values, thoughts, and symbols that influence the behavior, attitudes, and habits of a person and society, while mathematics is the knowledge that society uses to solve problems in everyday life. This study aimed to explore ethnomathematics in the architecture of Rama Agung Village Temple building, North Bengkulu Regency. This study is a qualitative descriptive by using an ethnographic approach method. The data collection technique of this study uses observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the study show that the form and architecture of the Rama Agung Village Temple Regency Temple buildings in North Bengkulu Regency have ethnomathematics realted to mathematical concepts including space and flat shapes. The concepts contained in the temple buildings can be used to introduce the concept of geometry though local culture.

Abstract

Culture is a product of human creativity, taste, and creation that reflects the identity of a community group, while mathematics is a science built through rational thinking related to real objects and abstract concepts. Ethnomathematics integrates culture into mathematics education, with culture as a relevant learning resource. This study aims to find the ideas of angles in the Ka Ga Nga script, which is part of the cultural heritage of the Rejang tribe. The method used is descriptive qualitative with an ethnographic approach, involving a cultural expert and a mathematician as the main subjects. Data collection was carried out through observation of the script, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis includes collection, reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions, with triangulation to ensure data validity. The results of the study indicate that the Ka Ga Nga script contains mathematical concepts, especially related to angles and geometric transformations. These findings have the potential to be developed into a source of mathematics learning, such as modules and Student Worksheets based on the Ka Ga Nga script, which can enrich the learning experience in a cultural context.

Abstract

Changes in Indonesia’s educational curriculum emphasize the importance of students' reasoning skills in mathematics. However, Indonesia's low ranking in the PISA assessment, particularly in mathematics, highlights students limited mathematical literacy. One major contributing factor is the fear and anxiety students feel towards mathematics, which is often viewed as intimidating. This study aims to review literature on the impact of integrating geometry-based mathematics learning with the traditional game engklek. The research method employed is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the SALSA framework and a descriptive analysis approach. Data were gathered from 17 articles published between 2014 and 2024, covering reputable international journals, accredited national journals, and journals indexed by DOAJ and Copernicus. The analysis identified 9 articles reporting that geometry topics requiring reasoning and literacy skills are better understood by elementary and preschool students when taught through traditional games like engklek. Furthermore, 8 articles presented experimental studies showing that innovative designs integrating engklek into geometry instruction significantly improve problem-solving skills, numerical literacy, and geometric literacy. Effective instructional models for geometry learning include Realistic Mathematics Education (RME), RME with the Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) approach, PMRI, didactic designs, and the development of student worksheets (LKPD). This review concludes that integrating geometry learning with engklek ethnomathematics offers an engaging and culturally relevant approach to overcoming students’ fear of mathematics while improving their mathematical literacy and reasoning skills

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) approach in educational curricula through a systematic literature review (SLR) method using the PRISMA framework. The main focus of this research is to evaluate how the STEM approach is integrated into various educational levels, identify implementation challenges, and assess its impact on the development of 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration (4C). Data were obtained from 239 scholarly articles accessed through databases such as Google Scholar, Scopus, SINTA, GARUDA, Crossref, and ICI. After a rigorous selection process based on inclusion criteria, 25 articles were chosen for further analysis. The results of the study indicate that consistent STEM implementation can enhance student motivation, interdisciplinary concept understanding, and problem-solving skills. However, several barriers were also identified, such as a lack of teacher training, limited resources, and low educational policy support. Therefore, this study provides valuable contributions to formulating recommendations for the development of more effective STEM-based educational policies in the future.
