Abstract

Mathematical critical thinking ability is the capacity to investigate, discover, connect, and assess every aspect of a problem carefully and thoughtfully to arrive at the best solution. This study aims to describe students' mathematical critical thinking abilities regarding circles in Grade VIII at SMP Negeri 09 Lebong. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with 20 student participants. Three students were interviewed: one with high ability, one with medium ability, and one with low ability. Data collection methods included tests, interviews, and documentation. The research instruments consisted of test items and interview guidelines. The data analysis technique involved data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of the study show that high-ability students met all indicators of mathematical critical thinking: Interpretation, Analysis, Evaluation, and Conclusion. Medium-ability students met two indicators: Interpretation and Analysis. Low-ability students were unable to meet the indicators of mathematical critical thinking: Interpretation, Analysis, Evaluation, and Conclusion.

Abstract

This research aims to improve students' mathematical critical thinking skills through differential learning. This research is an R&D (Research and developmet) development research with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model. This research is limited to Implementation only. This study involved 29 students and 1 mathematics teacher in class VII of SMP Negeri 7 Bengkulu City. The research instruments are in the form of validation sheets and questionnaires on the practicality of students and teachers. The results of the study showed that the LKPD developed obtained a validity Result Level of 84.48% with a valid category. The results of the practicality test obtained a percentage of 87.5% of students with the very practical category. Meanwhile, the results of the practicality test obtained a percentage of 87.8% from teachers in the very practical category. The results of this study show that the development of LKPD based on differentiated learning is feasible for use in learning.   Keywords: LKPD, Differentiated Learning, Mathematical Critical Thinking, ADDIE Model

Abstract

This study aims to observe the differences in students' mathematical problem-solving abilities and learning independence in learning with the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI) approach based on Engineering Design Thinking (EDT), the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI) approach, and conventional learning. This study is a quasi-experimental study with a pretest–posttest control group design. The study population was all seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Bengkulu City in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data analysis was carried out using one-way ANOVA. The results showed that there were significant differences in students' mathematical problem-solving abilities taught with the PMRI approach based on EDT, PMRI, and conventional learning (F = 3.629; p = 0.031 < 0.05). The average posttest of students' mathematical problem-solving abilities in the PMRI class based on Engineering Design Thinking was 28.75, the PMRI class was 26.84, and the conventional learning class was 24.42. In addition, there was a significant difference in student learning independence between the three learning groups (F = 3.734; p = 0.029 < 0.05). The average student learning independence in the EDT-based PMRI class was 73.94, higher than the PMRI class (68.95) and the conventional learning class (68.13). Based on these results, EDT-based PMRI learning is more effective in improving students' mathematical problem-solving abilities and learning independence. Keywords: PMRI, Engineering Design Thinking (EDT), Mathematical Problem Solving Ability, Learning Independence.
