Abstract

This community service activity aimed to improve the managerial capacity and participation of Tourism Awareness Group (POKDARWIS) members in tourism destination development, and to increase local community income in Paser Regency. The program focused on six crucial aspects: identification and planning, governance, marketing and promotion, product revitalization, sustainability and preservation, and evaluation and adaptation. Conducted through three main stages—preparation, dissemination, and evaluation—the activity utilized a comprehensive training methodology. Evaluation results indicated a significant increase in POKDARWIS members' knowledge regarding aspects of tourism destination development, as evidenced by paired sample t-tests (p<0.05). Furthermore, there was an increase in awareness regarding tourism management, community participation, and understanding of potential income from tourism activities. This suggests the effectiveness of the dissemination program in strengthening the function of POKDARWIS for sustainable tourism development in Paser Regency.

Abstract

The relocation of Indonesia’s Capital City/Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), from Jakarta to East Kalimantan began in 2022, with the government citing economic equity as the primary rationale. Economic development cannot progress without revitalization across all sectors. Agriculture is a sector with significant development potential, despite its current suboptimal operations. Among agricultural activities, oil palm plantations are one of the most prominent and important contributors. Effective human resource management (HRM) of farmers is crucial to driving agricultural economic growth. This study aims to examine the causal relationship between competence and motivation on farmer performance, with job satisfaction as a mediating variable. The sample comprises 138 urban farmers who are members of the Farmers' Group Association (GAPOKTAN) engaged in palm oil production. Data were collected in Sukaraja Village, Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) Regency. The approach was conducted using path analysis. Empirical results indicate that both competence and motivation significantly affect job satisfaction and performance. Additionally, job satisfaction is significantly related to performance. Thus, competence and motivation influence performance indirectly through job satisfaction. This study offers practical benefits for decision-makers, particularly GAPOKTAN, by emphasizing the importance of enhancing farmer competence. The findings also encourage further investigation into additional aspects that may affect farmer performance.

Abstract

In the last few decades, tourism communities have continued to improve to develop destination attributes. The interest of tourists is certainly a reference that contains hope and reality after they visit a destination. Samboja is one area that has the most tourist destinations, both at the level of Kutai Kartanegara Regency and East Kalimantan Province (Indonesia). However, their natural destinations as beaches are not yet a priority for the local community, so their income from their development is still minimal. Through a semi-structured survey approach to 185 respondents (visitors) in four predetermined destinations, we dig deeper into the extent of the predictions of the existence of tourist visits (ETV) with several influencing variables. Regression estimates prove that tourist income, travel costs, and travel time have had a significant impact on ETV. From a similar test, the cost of travel to other attractions and facilities actually has an insignificant effect on ETV. The empirical evidence from this study is likely to be the right policy and can be applied by the tourism development community there.

Abstract

Economic development in a region is not only measured by the fiscal dimension andthe economic growth but also based on the income distribution. This study aims toanalyze the effect of fiscal decentralization on investment, economic growth, economic structure, employment opportunities, and income inequality between districts/cities in East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. This study uses panel data (2013-2019) of the amalgamation of seven districts and three cities in East Kalimantan Province, analyzed using the Structural Equation Model (SEM). The findings show that regional tax plays a crucial role in enhancing regional investment, economic growth, and employment opportunities. It is also important for reducing the economic structure imbalance and income inequality. Profit-sharing funds improve regional investment, economic growth, and employment opportunities. At the same time, special allocation increases employment opportunities and economic structure imbalance. Furthermore, regional retribution increases employment opportunities and reduces the economic structure imbalance, but it harms regional economic growth. The practical implications offer solutions to the realization of local revenue sources for economic development and alleviation of social problems, such as employment opportunities and inequality in welfare.

Abstract

So far, the Tourism Awareness Group (POKDARWIS) in Pela Village has not implemented residential bookkeeping or financial management, so it often experiences problems in identifying tourism economic performance, especially income from homestays. In this context, financial management training is needed to optimize the performance of the homestay business. In this service, socialization approach, discussion and field practice methods are distributed to POKDARWIS of Pela Village. Empowerment focuses on building knowledge and skills in managing homestay finances. POKDARWIS of Pela Village was given an understanding of simple bookkeeping guidelines and direct assistance. Overall, they received the training well to support the sustainability of the homestay business through better quality financial management. It is hoped that the implications of this service will encourage POKDARWIS to apply simple financial management to the homestay business.

Abstract

The aim of this paper outlines four urgent reason for tourism to follow up on national targets. In the SDGs document, one of the benchmarks for economic intensity is actualized in the function of tourism in boosting welfare. Using a descriptive approach, secondary data is sourced from government publications, as illustrated by pillar 8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth”. Then, the investigation was converted to IKN (PPU) and 2 zones around IKN (Balikpapan-Kutai Kartanegara) with a frequency of 6 years. With the panel evaluation, several varied estimates were found. First, in parameter 1 (proportion of tourism contribution to GRDP), parameter 2 (number of foreign tourists), and parameter 3 (volume of domestic tourist visits), all the regions analyzed do not meet the SDG target. Second, in parameter 4 (foreign exchange or similar income from tourism), Kukar and Balikpapan have reached the standard, but PPU does not meet the criteria designed by the government. The expectations of this manuscript inspire stakeholders to resolve inequalities in the tourism sector, particularly in inter-line collaboration. Advanced academic studies can adopt or consider existing research through fresher thinking. The broader implications emphasize the maximum tourism potential in IKN.

Abstract

There have been few studies examining the link between open economic and demographic policies and the integration of socio-economic indicators into employment, particularly in developing markets. To address this gap in the literature, this scientific paper investigates the relationship between foreign investment capital and population growth on labor force participation, considering the mediating roles of minimum wages, economic growth, and human development. The study focuses on the Capital City of Nusantara (IKN) as a representation of a new economic growth center in Indonesia. Time-series secondary data from official government sources covering the period 2011–2024 were calculated using moderated regression analysis (MRA). The empirical results reveal that foreign investment capital has a significant negative effect on minimum wages, while population growth significantly and positively influences regional economic growth. Statistically, foreign investment capital significantly reduces human development. Moreover, foreign investment capital, when moderated by minimum wages and regional economic growth, as well as population growth moderated by human development, exerts a significant positive impact on labor force participation. These findings suggest that additional macroeconomic components beyond the current model warrant the attention of policymakers and further research.
