Abstract

This research analyzes the effect of pre-employment training and general training on the income of female informal sector workers in East Java. This research uses a multiple linear regression analysis method with data obtained from the results of the 2023 National Labor Force Survey (SAKERNAS). The research results show that pre-employment training has a positive but not significant effect on income, while general training has a positive and significant effect on income. The conclusion of this research shows that these findings are in line with human capital theory which states that investment in training can increase skills and income. Based on the findings of this research, the government is advised to improve the quality and sustainability of existing training programs and provide post-training assistance to ensure optimal application of skills. For further research, it is recommended to explore other factors that can influence workers' income and analyze the effect of training on opportunities to get a job.

Abstract

Labor productivity is a major factor in measuring economic growth in a country. According to Human Capital theory and Efficiency Wage Theory, one of the factors that affect labor productivity is education, health, and wages. However, this is not in line with the phenomenon that exists in DIY Province, where with a high level of education and health still makes DIY province as the province with the lowest productivity level in Java Island. This study aims to analyze the effect of education, health, and wages on labor productivity of districts/cities in DIY Province. This research uses an associate quantitative approach with secondary data obtained from the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia and the Central Bureau of Statistics of Yogyakarta Special Region, 2013-2023. Data analysis used multiple linear regression (panel data) and processed with e-views. The results of this study show that education and wage variables have a positive and significant impact, while health variables have a negative and insignificant effect on labor productivity. However, all three variables have a significant effect partially.

Abstract

Unequal economic development is reflected in economic growth between regions, which gives rise to gaps in the quality of human resources. This study aims to determine the influence of Physical Special Allocation Funds and Regional Expenditures in the Education Sector on increasing Economic Growth and the Quality of Human Resources, focusing on the education sector as one of the main pillars of development. The methodology used in this research is panel data regression analysis by combining cross-section data from 38 districts/cities with time-series data for three years, namely from 2020 to 2022. The findings of this research show that special physical allocation funds have a positive and significant effect on economic growth and the quality of human resources. In contrast, regional spending in the education sector has a considerable influence, with a negative correlation between financial development and the quality of human resources. The implications of this research provide policymakers insight regarding optimizing public funds' use to support equality. Abstract

Abstract

Despite the industrial sector's critical role in Indonesia's economy, many workers remain trapped in low-welfare categories, influenced by factors such as insufficient access to digital resources, urban-rural disparities, and persistent gender and marital status inequalities. Understanding the determinants of labor welfare in this sector is essential to effectively addressing these disparities. This research examines labor welfare in Indonesia's industrial sector and identifies the key determinants by analyzing individual characteristics. The study uses generalized ordered logit, categorizing three welfare groups: those who are poor and earn below the minimum wage, those who are not poor but earn below the minimum wage, and those who are not poor and earn above the minimum wage. Data from the Survei Sosial Ekonomi Nasional (SUSENAS) provides a comprehensive foundation for the analysis. The findings reveal that internet utilization, urban residency, and age significantly increase the likelihood of being in the highest welfare category, with internet users, urban dwellers, and older workers having higher probabilities of better welfare outcomes. Gender also plays a role, as men are more likely than women to be in the higher welfare categories. Married individuals, conversely, have lower odds of being in higher welfare categories, while education shows no significant impact on welfare status. These findings suggest that enhancing internet access and digital inclusion across the workforce could significantly improve labor welfare, particularly for industrial workers. Additionally, targeted policies addressing the unique challenges of married workers and promoting regional economic equity could ensure broader and more inclusive improvements in worker well-being.

Abstract

The research explores the impact of monetary policy on employment in the trade and industry sectors in Indonesia from 1990 to 2023. The trade and industry sectors were chosen due to their significant roles in the national economy, however both are heavily impactd by macroeconomic policies, particularly monetary policy. This study utilizes the Mundell-Fleming model to explore the interactions between the goods market and the money market, as well as how monetary policy affects economic output and labor absorption. By employing the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM), it aims to address the long-term relationship between monetary policy and labor absorption while also accounting for short-term dynamics. Although there are numerous studies on the impact of monetary policy on macroeconomic variables such as inflation and economic growth, there remains a research gap in understanding the specific effects on employment in these sectors. This study aims to fill that gap by providing a more focused and comprehensive analysis, as well as presenting strategic implications for more effective policymaking in creating jobs and supporting sustainable economic growth.

Abstract

Employment remains a major challenge for Indonesia, particularly in the Java region. The high and concentrated population growth in Java has led to a continuous increase in the working-age population, thereby expanding the labor supply. However, the absorption of labor in the formal sector tends to be lower compared to the informal sector, which is influenced by various underlying factors. This study aims to examine the effects of minimum wage, education level, economic growth, and investment on the absorption of formal labor in Java. Additionally, a dummy variable is included to control for the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study employs a quantitative method using panel data, consisting of time series data (2015–2023) and cross-sectional data from six provinces in Java. The Random Effect Model (REM) and panel regression analysis are applied. The findings indicate that the minimum wage does not have a significant effect on formal labor absorption, while education, economic growth, and investment have a statistically significant influence
