Abstract

Teacher work motivation is an important factor in supporting the implementation of professional duties and improving the quality of learning in schools. However, several conditions are still found that indicate that teacher work motivation is not fully optimal, especially in the aspects of perseverance, self-development, and the drive to continuously improve the quality of work. This study aims to describe the work motivation of teachers in State Vocational High Schools (SMK) in Padang City based on indicators of responsibility, perseverance, self-development, and a high level of aspirations (the desire to achieve). The study used a quantitative approach with descriptive methods. The study population was 987 teachers, while a sample of 207 teachers was determined using a multistage stratified random sampling technique consisting of cluster sampling and proportional random sampling. Data were collected through a Likert scale questionnaire that had met validity and reliability tests, then analyzed using descriptive statistics with an average value (mean). The results showed that teacher work motivation was in the high category with an overall average score of 4.38. The responsibility indicator obtained an average score of 4.40, perseverance 4.36, self-development 4.38, and a high level of aspirations 4.41. These findings indicate that teachers exhibit professional commitment, responsibility, a passion for developing competencies, and a strong desire to achieve. However, the aspect of perseverance still requires greater attention to ensure teachers are more consistent in facing challenges and completing tasks optimally. The implications of this research are expected to serve as a consideration for schools and policymakers in designing programs to continuously improve teacher work motivation, particularly through professional development, strengthening work culture, and providing support that encourages optimal performance.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of teachers’ job performance in supporting the success of the learning process at Vocational High Schools (SMK). Good teacher performance is one of the key factors in achieving educational goals; therefore, it is necessary to understand the profile of teachers’ job performance based on the quality of their work, the quantity of their work, and their timeliness in carrying out their professional duties. This study aims to describe teachers’ job performance at public SMKs throughout the city of Padang based on these three indicators. This study employs a quantitative approach using a descriptive research design. The study population consists of 987 teachers from 14 public SMKs throughout the city of Padang. The research sample of 207 respondents was determined using a multistage random sampling technique that combined cluster sampling and proportional random sampling. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire with a Likert scale that had undergone validity and reliability testing, making it suitable for use as a research instrument. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques through the calculation of mean values. The research results show that the overall job performance of teachers at public vocational high schools (SMK Negeri) throughout the city of Padang falls into the “high” category, with an average score of 4.48. Specifically, the work quality indicator received an average score of 4.52 (high), work quantity scored 4.47 (high), and timeliness scored 4.45 (high). Based on these results, it can be concluded that public vocational high school teachers throughout the city of Padang have demonstrated good performance in carrying out their professional duties, ranging from planning, implementation, and assessment of learning outcomes to follow-up on learning. Nevertheless, the aspects of instructional implementation and follow-up on remedial programs still need to be improved so that teachers’ job performance can be optimized in supporting the improvement of educational quality.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of a school principal's professional competence in enhancing the quality of instruction and the effectiveness of school management. According to the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture (Permendikdasmen) Number 21 of 2025, professional competence is a crucial attribute that every principal must possess to advance their school. This quantitative descriptive study aims to describe teachers' perceptions regarding the professional competence of principals at state senior high schools (SMA Negeri) in Padang City. The study population consisted of 1,024 teachers from 17 state senior high schools. A sample of 157 teachers was selected using multistage stratified random sampling a combination of cluster sampling and proportional random sampling. Data were collected using a validated and reliable 30-item questionnaire based on a 5-point Likert scale, covering six indicators: curriculum development, student-centered learning, instructional supervision, fostering innovation, entrepreneurial values, and transformational leadership. The results indicate that the learning dimension received a score of 4.56 (competent) and the school development dimension received a score of 4.52 (competent), resulting in an overall average score of 4.54 (competent). These findings suggest that, in general, principals have effectively demonstrated their professional competence, although areas such as curriculum evaluation, literacy strengthening, and collaborative supervision require further reinforcement.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of data-driven planning on teachers’ resilience through team collaboration in vocational high schools. This study addresses the limited empirical evidence linking data-driven planning to teacher resilience, particularly through collaborative mechanisms. Using quantitative research design, data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to 482 teachers’ senior high schools in West Sumatra, selected using the proportional stratified random sampling technique. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PL S-SEM) to test both direct and indirect relationships among variables, with reliability assessed through Cronbach’s alpha and composite reliability, and validity evaluated using Average Variance Extracted (AVE).  Data-driven planning is conceptualized as the systematic use of data for instructional and managerial decision-making, team collaboration as structured professional interaction among teachers, and teacher resilience as the ability to adapt and sustain performance under challenges. The findings indicate that data-driven planning has a positive and significant effect on team collaboration, collaboration has a strong positive effect on teacher resilience, and collaboration significantly mediates the relationship between data-driven planning and resilience. These findings highlight the critical role of collaborative practices as a mechanism linking planning processes to resilience outcomes. This study contributes to the existing literature on educational management by integrating data-driven planning, collaboration, and resilience into a single empirical model. Practically, the results suggest that schools should strengthen collaborative data use to enhance teacher resilience.
