Abstract

Performance-based compensation or remuneration for lecturers and staff is crucial for realizing the higher education institution's vision and mission. However, many universities still compensate their lecturers and employees predominantly based on rank, position, and length of service. This study investigates the management aspects, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of a performance-based remuneration system for lecturers and staff at Islamic higher education institutions operating under a Public Service Agency, as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through interviews, documentation, and observation. The study was conducted at the State Islamic University Sunan Ampel Surabaya, an Islamic university with Public Service Agency status. The findings indicate that the planning phase for the performance-based remuneration system at the State Islamic University Sunan Ampel Surabaya has been effectively executed. This planning includes issuing decrees from the Minister of Finance, the Rector's decree, establishing a remuneration team, formulating grading and position valuation, and socializing the performance-based remuneration system. Moreover, the implementation phase of this performance-based remuneration system has been carried out successfully, with payments made in subsequent periods. The Internal Audit Unit manages the evaluation of the performance-based remuneration system. The theoretical implication of this study is that it supports the theory and strengthens several findings from previous research on performance-based remuneration system management in higher education. Meanwhile, the practical implication of this study is that it can serve as a guideline in determining the grading of a remuneration system.

Abstract

Citra merek suatu lembaga berperan penting untuk dikenal oleh banyak calon konsumen dan untuk bersaing dengan kompetitor lainnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pembentukan citra merek melalui pengembangan kewirausahaan di Pondok Pesantren Maskumambang Gresik. Informan pada penelitian ini terdapat 6 orang diantaranya; kepala pondok pesantren, direktur bisnis, guru, siswa, orang tua dan masyarakat. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara dan observasi di lokasi penelitian. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa strategi pembentukan citra merek sudah terlaksana dengan baik, Pondok Pesantren Maskumambang Gresik menerapkan strategi dengan pengembangan kewirausahaan sebagai salah satu upaya untuk pembentukan citra merek, pengembangan kewirausahaan juga membentuk popularitas dan kredibilitas lembaga di masyarakat yang mampu menjadi peluang menarik para calon konsumen atau peserta didik baru.

Abstract

Kurikulum Pusat Kegiatan Belajar Masyarakat (PKBM) adalah program pendidikan non-formal yang dirancang untuk memenuhi kebutuhan individu yang tidak dapat mengakses pendidikan formal. Terdiri dari tiga tingkat pendidikan, yaitu Paket A, B, dan C, yang setara dengan pendidikan dasar (SD), menengah pertama (SMP), dan menengah atas (SMA), kurikulum ini bertujuan memberikan kesempatan belajar yang setara dan relevan bagi seluruh lapisan masyarakat. Dengan penekanan pada pengembangan keterampilan dasar dan kompetensi yang sesuai dengan tuntutan pasar kerja, PKBM berusaha mempersiapkan peserta didik untuk melanjutkan pendidikan ke jenjang yang lebih tinggi atau memasuki dunia kerja. Struktur kurikulum yang fleksibel dan berorientasi pada kebutuhan peserta, serta fokus pada Muatan Lokal, memungkinkan pengembangan potensi individu dan memberikan kontribusi positif bagi masyarakat. Melalui pendidikan yang inklusif dan memberdayakan, PKBM diharapkan dapat menjadi solusi bagi mereka yang menghadapi hambatan ekonomi, sosial, atau geografis dalam mendapatkan pendidikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kurikulum pendidikan kesetaraan yang diterapkan di PKBM umumnya sudah mengacu pada Permendikbud No. 24 Tahun 2016 dan Permendiknas No. 14 Tahun 2007, namun dalam pelaksanaannya masih terdapat berbagai kendala seperti keterbatasan sumber daya manusia, sarana-prasarana, serta variasi dalam metode pembelajaran.

Abstract

This study aims to find out about the role of school stakeholders in processing student grades using the e-report application. This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach, namely observation by observing the website and using the website directly. Interviews were conducted with informants regarding the use of applications and documentation of reports issued from applications to school stakeholders who now participate in the use of e-reports. The data analysis technique was carried out using data reduction, data presentation, and concluding. The results show that the role of school stakeholders in the use of interconnected e-reports starts from the administrative field in data collection, teachers in data entry, curriculum fields in checking data, and BP teachers who enter student attendance to get to the parents. The existence of this E-report application shows the discipline and perseverance of the stakeholders in controlling IT. The processing of the scores on this e-report will also be copied into the student's master book, and later the results of this assessment will be submitted to the Surabaya City Education Office for nomination with other schools.

Abstract

Purpose – Teacher performance assessment is a very important element for madrasah to improve quality. This research aims to explore the planning, implementation, evaluation, and impact of performance assessment for Islamic education teachers at State Islamic Senior High School Surabaya in realizing high madrasah. Method –This research is a case study. It used both primary and secondary data. The primary data were obtained through observations and interviews with the headmaster and teachers at MAN Surabaya. Findings – The important findings of this article show that there are two flagship programs academic and non-academic innovation implemented to realize State Islamic Senior High School Surabaya  as an advanced, high-quality, and globally competitive madrasah. The performance assessment of teachers at State Islamic Senior High School Surabaya is carried out through the stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation. All processes are conducted in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The teacher performance assessment has a significant impact, including increasing work motivation, strengthening professional relationships, and improving the overall quality of teaching and education. Research implications/limitations – The implication of this study lies in enriching the body of knowledge on the performance assessment of Islamic Education teachers in realizing high-quality madrasahs. However, this research has a limitation in that it was conducted only at the State Islamic Senior High School Surabaya and only covered a single performance period in 2024. Originality/value – This study provides empirical evidence on the performance assessment of Islamic education teachers. Future research could extend this framework to other performance assessment contexts.

Abstract

The paper reviews the application of culturally responsive pedagogy as a means of inserting the element of Thai local culture solely in the Primary Intensive English Program (IEP) in Narathiwat, Thailand. The qualitative descriptive design was used, and data were gathered by using classroom observations, semi-structured interviews and documentation. The fieldwork took place during the months of July and comprised of three classroom observations, and three classes of primary students, using various materials and various students. The participants for interview were three IEP teachers and three primary students who were chosen according to teacher suggestions to guarantee direct interaction with culturally encoded instructions activities. Findings indicate that the Thai cultural aspects, including local narratives, everyday settings, local words, and routines based on the cultural context, were integrated by the teachers in an attempt to promote understanding and involvement. The research comes to the conclusion that the implementation of the Thai-only cultural content by means of culturally responsive pedagogy enhances student engagement, reinforces the contextual knowledge, and provides a feasible way to apply the model to EFL classrooms in the Southeast Asian cultural settings.

Abstract

Gender equality which is implemented correctly can have positive impacts on all social aspects. As in the case of aspects of women's leadership that need to be respected without any discrimination. The aim of this research focuses on how to understand gender equality and women's leadership through the perspective of the Qur’an and Sayyidah Aisyah Radhiyallahu'Anha that can be applied to fulfill society's understanding regarding all issues in the aspect of gender equality. The research method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques through literature study by collecting relevant data from books, journals, etc. without having to conduct field reviews. The research results that contain the concept of gender equality and women's leadership from the perspective of the Qur’an, are explained in several surahs; some of them are Surah An-Nisa:124, An-Nahl:97, Al-Hujurat:13, An-Naml:23-44, Al-Furqan:74 and also understanding the leadership of Sayyidah Aisyah Radhiyallau'Anha; such as her leadership of the Jamal war, as well as the military. She was also involved in politics and most importantly she was a defender of women. Viewed from these two perspectives, it proves that Islam recognizes gender equality. Men and women have the same right to be leaders.

Abstract

BAZNAS Surabaya City, as the official institution that manages zakat, plays a vital role in improving community welfare, particularly through education. This study aims to explain the role of BAZNAS Surabaya City in increasing the number of children attending school and attending Islamic boarding schools through various educational programs based on zakat, infaq, and alms (ZIS). This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection methods through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that BAZNAS Surabaya City has implemented various programs such as Smart Surabaya, a monthly educational assistance program for junior high school (SMP) or MTs (Islamic junior high school) students and Islamic boarding schools. The program is based on the principle of ZIS fund management to realize social justice in education. The impact is seen in increased access to education for children from families in need of assistance and the increasing activity of Islamic boarding schools in developing religious and independent human resources. However, BAZNAS Surabaya City still faces obstacles in terms of equitable program coverage, effectiveness in distributing assistance, and limited resources. Therefore, more thorough program planning, collaboration with various sectors, and optimal use of digital technology in zakat management are needed so that its benefits can be expanded and sustained.

Abstract

The role of leadership in education is essential. Madrasah principals are not limited to carrying out administrative functions but also play a role in establishing direction, vision, and targeted goals to achieve improvements in the quality of education. This study aims to study and analyze various leadership strategies used by principals to improve the quality of educational services. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach to explore in-depth the leadership strategies of madrasah principals in improving the quality of educational services at MI Mamba'ul Huda Al-Islamiyyah Ponorogo. One of the madrasah principals' strategies in improving the performance of madrasahs is through providing guidance to teachers. This guidance is carried out so that teachers carry out their duties honestly, responsibly, effectively, and efficiently. MI Mamba'ul Huda Al-Islamiyyah is able to build an educational environment that is religious, collaborative, and oriented towards the development of students' overall potential.
