Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic disease still the main problem in Indonesia. However, this disease can be cured with drugs at a particular time after the patient is detected as having TB. TB diagnosis or screening can be made through x-ray imaging of the chest cavity by a radiology specialist. The Mantoux test can then be used to confirm the diagnosis.  X-ray images often have varying contrasts that lead to true negatives or false negatives. Whereas generally, a chest x-ray is the initial examination of TB. Error detection will have a fatal impact on treatment therapy. Therefore, this study proposed a system for TB detection based on x-ray images using deep learning. The system developed uses a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with the VGG-16 architecture. In the performance test stage, 700 normal and 140 TB chest x-ray images were used. The simulation results show that the proposed system can classify normal and TB lungs with an accuracy of 99.76%. The highest accuracy is achieved using batch size=50. This system is expected to assist radiology in detecting tuberculosis on X-Ray images of the lungs. The contribution of this study is to build a machine learning model for TB detection and optimization of model parameters to get the best accuracy.

Abstract

In the past few years, biosensor technology has paved the way for new insights into the physiological effects of physical exercise. Quantitative analysis, especially in the case of muscle capacity measurement, is the focus of studies to assess the impact of sports activities. Therefore, this study examines the impact of sports activity intensity on muscle capacity using an integrated biosensor system developed at Bandung State Polytechnic. Surface electromyography (sEMG) measurements were conducted on 30 participants aged 20–25 during various sports activities. Results showed a strong positive correlation (r=0.814) between sports activity frequency and muscle contraction, suggesting higher activity correlates with increased muscle activity. Conversely, the correlation during muscle relaxation was low (r=0.261), indicating independence from sports activity. In the future, it is expected that integrated biosensors will have the ability to concurrently measure and monitor various parameters like heart rate (via electrocardiogram), blood oxygen levels (via photoplethysmography), and blood pressure. The integrated biosensor system allows for comprehensive assessment and optimization of sports performance and injury prevention strategies.

Abstract

This research develops a virtual mouse control system that uses real-time hand gesture recognition implemented on an ESP32-CAM–based Internet of Things (IoT) platform. By leveraging OpenCV for image processing, the system translates hand gestures into corresponding mouse actions, including cursor movement, clicking, and scrolling. The study evaluates system performance under different lighting conditions and Wi-Fi speeds. Results show that higher Wi-Fi speeds significantly reduce latency, enabling smoother real time gesture recognition and high definition video output, while lower speeds lead to noticeable delays and reduced accuracy. The system successfully enables remote cursor control through camera captured hand gestures, supporting functions such as left click, right click, scrolling, and dragging. In latency tests performed with an internet speed of approximately 60 Mbps, the system achieved an average delay of about 50 milliseconds. Under optimal lighting conditions with minimal background interference, it accurately tracked hand movements and recognized gestures such as pointing, clicking, dragging, and scrolling in real time, achieving an accuracy rate of 95%. Despite its lower resolution compared to conventional webcams, the ESP32-CAM proves to be an effective solution for virtual mouse control, particularly in scenarios where high-resolution imaging is unnecessary. Its IoT capabilities support remote operation, allowing users to control the virtual mouse from a distance as long as both the ESP32-CAM and the computer remain connected. Overall, the findings highlight the ESP32-CAM based IoT platform as a viable alternative for gesture based interaction in real applications, although further enhancements are needed to improve performance in challenging environments.

Abstract

Waste management remains a major challenge in Lengkong Village, Bandung Regency, due to the limited capacity of existing waste processing facilities and low community participation in source level waste reduction. The current TPS 3R is unable to accommodate waste generated by 13 neighborhood units, resulting in uncontrolled accumulation that poses environmental and public health risks, while community-based waste management practices based on the 3R principles have not been optimally implemented. As an initial effort, the Mekar Arum Mewangi Waste Bank Unit (BSU MAMMA), established in February 2024, has encouraged household level waste sorting among residents of RW 11; however, its impact remains limited. Therefore, this community service program focuses on education on segregated waste management and deposit procedures, training in the development of waste management educational content, and the development of a digital application to support waste bank operations, aiming to improve data management, transaction recording, and reporting. The initiative is implemented in collaboration with the Coimbatore Institute of Technology, which contributes expertise in decentralized and technology-based waste management, and targets BSU MAMMA members and residents of RW 11 with potential expansion to other areas. Through this approach, the program is expected to foster a more participatory, effective, and sustainable waste management system, ultimately enhancing environmental quality and public health in Lengkong Village. Abstract
