Abstract

The Environmental Impact Analysis (EIA) is part of the science of development ecology which studies the reciprocal relationship or interaction between development and the environment. The existence of EIA is to reduce the negative impacts that will be caused by activities, both development and mining. EIA is carried out as a tool that perfects the planning process for a development activity which not only pays attention to the social aspect but also to the aspect of the influence of the activity on social culture. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method using interviews as a data source. The results of this research are that 96.67% of the population in the development area are native Dayak people who have various kinds of customs, one of which is ngariau and manyanggar which are used for land clearing. Furthermore, if a social conflict occurs, "Jipen" will be imposed according to applicable customs. As for the results regarding community attitudes and perceptions, there were 43.33% of the community agreed with the mining activity plan.

Abstract

Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) or Acidic Acidic Drainage (AAT) is a type of water runoff that happens when certain sulfide minerals in rocks come in contact with water and oxygen, triggering an oxidation process that results in water with acidic properties. To understand more about this phenomenon, a literature review was conducted using relevant keywords on online information sources. The indicators used to measure the level of acidity in mine water include pH, metal concentration, Total Suspended Solid (TSS) or turbidity level, electrical conductivity, sulfate, and sulfuric acid content. High electrical conductivity in mine water usually indicates the presence of metals such as iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn). High levels of manganese (Mn) in water can cause health problems for humans. Moreover, an increase in the concentration of Fe can cause an increase in turbidity or TSS because iron metal can dissolve in air and form solid particles that can cause turbidity. To reduce acidity and environmental pollution, passive or active treatment techniques can be used to neutralize AMD.

Abstract

Land use planning is the use of land for certain purposes. One issue that may arise during land planning is whether the land is appropriate or suitable for a particular purpose. For local governments, it is very important to know the income potential that exists through land use planning. One of the benefits of writing this article is to get an overview of environmental conditions and the efforts of the Pesisir Selatan Regency government in environmental management. With the increase in population, quality of life, and community welfare, land is needed to meet various needs and facilities. However, the amount of land is relatively fixed, which causes problems in land use in rural and urban areas. This study investigates the conditions of Land Use, Land Conversion, and Potential in Pesisir Selatan Regency. This research produces several conclusions, namely 1) Land in Pesisir Selatan Regency is very suitable for plantation cultivation because of its condition; and 2) Pesisir Selatan Regency has a lot of potential for mining, coastal and marine cultivation, mangroves, and coral reefs.

Abstract

Hazardous and toxic materials are commonly used in the production and non-production processes of the animal feed industry. Hazardous waste is the end product of hazardous use. Generators of hazardous waste must handle it in accordance with applicable regulations. Efficient handling of hazardous waste not only improves the company's image, but also benefits the surrounding community and employees. PT X's animal feed industry is one of the producers of hazardous waste. The generation of B3 waste is the result of non-production activities such as machine maintenance and office work. Analysis of PT X's hazardous waste management is the objective of this study. The findings show that PT X's hazardous waste management consists of identifying the source and type of hazardous waste, packaging and labeling, storing hazardous waste in temporary shelters (TPS), and transporting hazardous waste by licensed third parties. Related to hazardous waste management activities, PT X has fulfilled all licensing requirements and complied with all applicable regulations.

Abstract

The potential and unique natural resources in the Pariaman Mangrove Forest have a very significant role in the economic, social, cultural, and environmental development of coastal communities. Environmental management of the Pariaman Mangrove Forest is one of the efforts to support the development of coastal areas optimally, wisely, and responsibly, of course by involving community participation and various related parties and while still paying attention to the environmental carrying capacity of the Pariaman Mangrove Forest. This research aims to provide an overview of community activity in managing the Mangrove Forest environment in Pariaman City. Enthusiasm, desires, and hopes as well as the social concern of the local community are forms of community participation in efforts to manage the Mangrove Forest environment. Community participation is a supporting factor in efforts to develop the coastal area of Pariaman City. The description of community participation in the environmental management of Mangrove Forests is shown by the high level of community desire to protect and preserve them as well as their hope for efforts to protect or improve Mangrove Forests. The form of community participation is voluntary or self-directed participation.

Abstract

Increasing atmospheric CO₂ concentrations contribute to climate change, with industrial and economic activities accelerating greenhouse gas emissions. However, human-induced emissions also stem from deforestation, where forests act as carbon sinks through photosynthesis but release carbon when cut down. Forests play a crucial role in mitigating climate change by storing carbon, and their restoration can enhance their carbon-absorbing capacity. This research, based on a literature review, examines the role of forests in providing ecosystem services for environmental resilience, utilizing sources from Google Scholar, Elsevier, and Science Direct. Forests and agroforestry systems contribute to food and nutritional security, providing various products like food, medicine, and materials for construction and fuel. However, forest fires and logging disrupt these contributions. Forests support livelihoods by offering diverse products and ecosystem services. Managing forest gaps, which influence biodiversity and nutrient cycles, is crucial for forest ecology.

Abstract

Environmental problems in Indonesia are very diverse, including those related to coastal and marine management. The main problem in coastal and marine management is that beach reclamation and sand mining activities are likely to have an impact on the environment, especially marine ecosystems and coastal communities. The existing problem of sand mining and beach reclamation has had a negative impact on coastal ecosystems and communities around the coast. The purpose of this study is to describe (1) Coastal and Marine Management in a Case Study of the Impact of Beach Reclamation and Sand Mining on Marine Ecosystems and Coastal Communities. (2) Knowing the management efforts that can be carried out in minimizing the negative impacts of sand mining and beach reclamation activities. The research location was carried out in coastal areas in Indonesia through observations from case studies of previous journals. This observation was carried out from September 2021 to December 2021. The research methodology is based on previous literature studies. The type of research used in this research is Literary Study or Library Research. The data source comes from Google Scholar and the data collection method is a qualitative method in the form of literature review (document analysis). The results of this study indicate that the existence of an overview of environmental management in the presence of mine reclamation activities has an impact on the damage caused by reclamation. The problems of sand mining and beach reclamation have had a negative impact on coastal ecosystems and communities around the coast. It also contains efforts that can be made in overcoming and minimizing environmental problems.
