Abstract

This preliminary study aims to obtain data on the extent to which the science process skills (SPS) has been developed in the process of science learning in one of the private junior high school in Lembata, which later taken as a consideration for promoting a SPS-oriented learning. Data were collected through questionnaires filled out by students and interviews with science teachers. Based on the results of the analysis, it is known that science learning in schools has not been fully able to bring up the skills expected; for the average score of aspects of observing, designing and making, predicting, measuring and calculating, hypothesizing and communicating, only reached less than 65%. This low achievement is due to the applied methods, models and learning strategies, which tend to lead students having conceptual understanding, while the procedural, factual and other basic understanding of science are poorly trained. Based on this case, it is necessary to do further research in the form of application of a method and learning strategy that is able to enhance student's SPS.

Abstract

Analytical thinking is one of the thinking skills that must be possessed by prospective teacher students, especially in studying HPLC material. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused limited practicum activities, so the MMI HPLC is expected to be a solution for students in learning the concept as a whole and continue to develop analytical thinking skils. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using HPLC Interactive Multimedia, either directly or indirectly, on the analytical thinking skills of prospective teacher students described through path analysis using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) approach based on variance or Partial Least Square (PLS). This study uses a quantitative approach through a questionnaire which is measured on a Likert scale. Based on the seven latent variables of student perception, the aspect of material meaningfulness when using MMI HPLC (X3) has a very strong influence in increasing student interest, motivation, curiosity, and activeness. Interest, motivation, curiosity, and activeness of students have an effect on building students' analytical thinking skills. On the meaningfulness material variable, it consists of 2 indicators, namely the media used to clarify students' understanding of the learning material and the media used appropriately and in accordance with the learning method. PLS SEM analysis is effectively used to analyze pathways or determine the effect of using HPLC interactive multimedia on students' analytical thinking skills through the provision of student questionnaires

Abstract

The lithium-ion battery context can be implemented in learning by using green chemistry in analyzing students' scientific literacy. This study aims to investigate the scientific literacy profile of students who appear in lithium-ion battery learning with a problem-based learning model in high school. The scientific literacy indicator is used based on the 2015 PISA Framework. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. This research was conducted in one of the high schools in the city of Bogor, West Java. The research subjects consisted of 27 students of class XII MIPA 6. The instruments used were observation, LKPD, and audio-video during the learning process. The data obtained were analyzed using Transcript-Based Lesson Analysis (TBLA). The results showed that the 4 indicators of scientific literacy appeared in the learning of the first meeting and the second meeting. The results show that the profile of the emergence of scientific literacy of students at the first meeting is an indicator of scientific knowledge (39%); indicators of science competence (38%); context indicators (13%); and science attitude indicators (10%). The profile of the emergence of scientific literacy of students at the second meeting, namely the knowledge indicator (37%); competency indicators (31%); context indicator (25%); and science attitude indicators (7%). The overall results show that the 4 indicators of scientific literacy that appear are related to each other, but are still low. The low achievement of students' scientific literacy is because they are not used to expressing what is in their minds and teachers have not been able to ask questions that encourage them to be scientifically literate. Analysis of scientific literacy activities and dialogue during learning can be used as a reflection for teachers to evaluate and improve further learning.
