Abstract

Background: Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is a persistent hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and can cause progressive liver damage. This damage can be measured through a decrease in albumin levels and an increase in liver enzymes such as aspartate aminotransferase (AST/SGOT), alanine aminotransferase (ALT/SGPT), and de Ritis ratio (AST/ALT). This study aims to analyze the relationship between albumin levels and SGOT, SGPT, and de Ritis ratio in CHB patients. Methods: This cross-sectional retrospective analytical study involved 50 CHB patients diagnosed at Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital Padang between June 2022 to June 2023. Data on albumin levels, SGOT, SGPT, and de Ritis ratio were obtained from medical records. The de Ritis ratio, SGOT, and SGPT were grouped into normal and increased. Statistical analysis used an independent t-test with a significance of p < 0.05. Results: The research subjects consisted of 26 men (52%) and 24 women (48%) with an average age of 42.46 ± 13.39 years. The mean albumin level in the increased SGOT group (3.69 ± 0.78 g/dL) was significantly lower than the normal SGOT group (4.39 ± 0.61 g/dL) (p = 0.003). The mean albumin level in the increased de Ritis ratio group (3.90 ± 0.80 g/dL) was also significantly lower than the normal de Ritis ratio group (4.46 ± 0.70 g/dL) (p = 0.006). There was no significant difference between albumin levels in the normal and increased SGPT groups (p = 0.548). Conclusion: There is a significant negative relationship between albumin levels and SGOT and de Ritis ratio in CHB patients. Decreased albumin levels may be an indicator of more severe liver damage in these patients.

Abstract

Red blood cell (RBC) alloimmunization, the development of antibodies against foreign red blood cell antigens, is a critical concern in transfusion medicine. Alloantibodies can lead to adverse transfusion reactions, including hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN) and delayed hemolytic transfusion reactions (DHTR). This comprehensive literature review explores the intricacies of RBC alloimmunization, focusing on the screening and identification of erythrocyte antibodies. We delve into the prevalence and clinical significance of various alloantibodies, the underlying immunological mechanisms, and the evolution of laboratory techniques for their detection. Additionally, we discuss the challenges and future directions in managing alloimmunization, emphasizing the importance of personalized medicine and innovative approaches to ensure safe and effective blood transfusions.

Abstract

The growth and development of children disturbance is a health problem that often is found in the community. Anemia and colour blindness are also health conditions that can affect the quality of growth and development of children, which parents rarely realize. The blood type of children is seldom defined in early ages by the parents. This activity aims to conduct health counselling, the examination of colour blindness, blood type, and hemoglobin levels in school-age children in Sumanik village. Methods: Activities were health education on how to wash hands properly and be aware of internet content. The activities were continued by a health examination, such as examining colour blindness, hemoglobin levels, and blood type. Testing of blood type on 76 children, two of 79 children has partial colour blindness. We found From 28 children (36.4%) having anemia, with hemoglobin levels 9.2-11.9 gr / dL, and one child has a blood type B rhesus (-). From this activity, it can be concluded that the low level of knowledge of school-age children in Kenagarian Sumaniak about how to wash hands properly and correctly, even children do not know the adverse effects associated with adult content on the internet. In addition, it appears that children with anemia are still relatively high. For this reason, continuous health promotion is needed. For disorders that can not be overcome at the time of activity, it is recommended to get treatment to the nearest health care centre.

Abstract

Non-contagious diseases have continued to increase over the years. In 2016, about 71 percent of the world's causes of death were non-contagious diseases (NCD) that kill 36 million people annually. Major risk factors of the non-contagious disease are metabolic factors, behavioral factors, and environmental factors. Riskesdas 2018 shows the prevalence of non-contagious diseases increasing compared with Riskesdas 2013, including cancer, stroke, chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension. The purpose of this activity is to increase promotive and preventive effort and education in the community, as well as improved screening and early detection through health education, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol levels, and the abdominal ultrasound of society in Kampung Batu Busuk, Kelurahan Limau Manis, Kecamatan Pauh, Padang on Saturday, November 13th, 2021. Such activities include medical examinations of blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and abdominal ultrasound. From the activity of the examination of the health of 41 persons, 13 were hypertensive, 2 (32%) were hyperglycemia, 24 (58.5 percent) were dyslipidemia, and 6 were fatty liver. To counter the problem of non-contagious diseases, comprehensive and holistic intervention efforts must be made, that is, promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative, as a unified continum of care. Disorders that are not treatable during an activity are recommended for treatment at a nearby health care center.

Abstract

Background: Inflammation has a major role in the pathogenesis of various diseases. Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) being the most often used drug in community, but prolonged use NSAIDs can cause digestive problems and other side effects. Capsaicin from red chilli (Capsicum annuum) extract have anti-inflammatory effects and as a replacement candidate of NSAIDs. Methods: This research is an experimental research with pre and post test design for differential count and post test only design to leukocytes count and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). The four positive control groups and treatment group contains 5 samples of wistar rat for each group induced by CCl4 2% 0,5 ml/day for 30 days. After induction, the samples were given treatment for 14 days with ad libitum standard diet (negative control); aspirin; acetaminophen; ibuprofen; mefenamic acid (positive control), and extracts of C. annuum 2% (treatment group). Results: The differential count from extracts of C. annuum 2% group showed a decrease in lymphocytes (p <0,001) than before treatment. While the results of leukocytes count and ESR from C. annuum extract 2% group showed smaller results, ie 5.020 ± 2.071 (p = 0,209) and 2,00 ± 1,26 (p = 0,174) compared to the NSAIDs groups. Conclusion: Extract of C. annuum 2% were able to decrease the proportion of lymphocytes significantly, but the reduced of leukocytes count and ESR unsignificantly.

Abstract

The majority of people of Nagari Carocok Anau Kec. Tarusan Kab. Pesisir Selatan worked as a fisherman, farmer, a small number of civil servants and market traders, as well as a housewife. Pregnant women in Nagari Carocok Anau, most of whom are housewives, still do not receive health checks such as haemoglobin (Hb) checks. This activity aims to increase knowledge among the public and health cadres regarding anaemia and Hb examination in pregnant women, as well as treatment. The health of pregnant women is checked by checking blood pressure, Hb and medication. This Hb examination is an effort to minimize abnormalities that can occur in pregnant women and fetuses due to low Hb when the mother is pregnant. The examination results showed that more than half of the pregnant women (71.43%) who attended were in the age range 18 – 35 years. Nearly half (42.86%) of pregnant women had Hb levels below the normal limit (11 mg/dl). For a more valid diagnosis, it is necessary to carry out quantitative analysis from the hospital laboratory so that follow-up can be carried out. Education about anaemia and Hb examinations in pregnant women can increase people's knowledge so that preventive measures can be carried out early. Health checks on the general public (blood pressure, Hb) and treatment were also carried out, it was found that the Hb results were within normal limits.
