Abstract

Campursari music is a trend on the radio and a favorite of the people of East Java, so it is shifting towards popular culture. This study aims to uncover the proliferation of campursari music and the role of cultural radios. This qualitative research uses a virtual ethnography method, which focuses on the physical presence and virtual text together. The subjects are technology (radio and communication technology on the internet), humans (radio listeners), physical interactions, and virtual interactions. Data collection used participant observation through observation and interviews offline and online in the form of various texts, writings, images, and audiovisuals on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Youtube. The informants of this study were four cultural experts, namely: Sumadi, Anton Sani, Ibnu Hajar, and Juwono. This study carried out participatory involvement for one year in the virtual world and 30 days living in four cities: Surabaya, Nganjuk, Banyuwangi, and Sumenep. Manthous's campursari music is a fusion of pentatonic and diatonic scales despite the addition of various musical instruments. It has several sub-genres, including campursari janger, campursari kendang-kempul, campursari keroncong dangdut, campursari dangdut Madura, campursari jaranan dangdut, campursari dangdut koplo, campursari dangdut hip-hop, and campursari dangdut acoustic. Cultural programs and campursari music reinforce the reliability of radio to maintain local culture (Javanese, Madura, Using). They are a means of maintaining local identities to stem global culture. No matter how hard the invasion of foreign culture, can not disrupt the local tastes of people. Campursari music proliferation is a modification to traditional music to serve the tastes of the people, to avoid it from extinction. Campursari music must be able to adapt to the current era. The four radio cultures in East Java make campursari music a primary commodity to attract radio listeners and as part of the lives of local people.

Abstract

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia since March 2020 has tested the Indonesian government's capabilities in various aspects, including public health communication. The existence of communication media both from the Government and the mass media is considered insufficient in providing information related to Covid-19. The advancement of the internet and new media has made social media, especially Instagram, play a vital role in disseminating information related to Covid-19. The information gap that occurs encourages netizens to collaborate to fill it. One of the information volunteers regarding Covid-19 is the Instagram account @pandemictalks, with educational content and criticism of the handling of Covid -19 in Indonesia. This study captures how the discourse on the handling of Covid-19 was put forward by the volunteer account @pandemictalks. This study uses Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis Model, this model dissects discourse not only from the linguistic aspect but also into the social aspect and the context involved in it. This study provides an overview of the various forms of criticism that @pandemictalks conveyed, their production and distribution, social changes that occurred, and related policy changes in them.

Abstract

The internet and social media expand public sphere has been much associated with public sphere and digital networks in many studies, where Habermas's public sphere theory and the theory of the Castells network society have been much debated about its relevance to the techno-social development. Both Habermas and Castells tend to see the public sphere of the Internet as a contestation space where corporate and state forces work in various ways to control and dominate it. This study emphasizes more on the creativity of citizens forming community networks through the use of the Internet and social media and conducting autonomous conversations in the public sphere. Netnographic studies of the dynamics of the discourse of public sphere in the social movement networked Indonesia Berkebun show that the Internet and social media become creative means for citizens to package global discourse locally to voice their demands. This study concludes that the concepts and theories of public sphere, network society are relevant as tools for analyzing public sphere and Internet networks and social media. The potential of the Internet network and social media as autonomous communication spaces depends on the design and purpose and the utilization of available features. Conversations that are restricted to the agenda of the 3E program help communities focus on discourse and shape the character of a rational Indonesian gardening space. This community from the beginning realized the potential of the Internet and social media to form networks and public spheres. But like gardening, public sphere requires commitment, such as caring for the garden from pest attacks, weeds, giving it fertilizer so the plants grow as expected.
