Abstract

Health workers play a vital role during the COVID-19 pandemic, not only in the health facilities but also as a reference in the media. This role arises from the health workers’ accounts on social media amplified by the mass media and public discourse. This study aims to examine the narratives of doctors’ accounts on social media, responding to the emergency period of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. This study maps and analyzes the narratives of the 10 (ten) doctors’ Twitter accounts in Indonesia during the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) period from 3 July - 23 August 2021 through qualitative content analysis methods. The spread of the Delta variant virus and a significant increase in active cases, death, and bed occupancy rates were recorded during this period. The study shows that each doctor has a different narrative, with the main issues: vaccination, health protocols, health facilities, case data, and government policies related to the pandemic. Some doctors’ narratives are also a form of public pressure on government policies. This study also notes the phenomenon of “twitting to the press” by the mass media because of social restriction. Keywords: Healthcare professional, Twitter, mobility restriction, Covid-19, Indonesia ABSTRAKTenaga kesehatan memiliki peran penting selama masa pandemi COVID-19. Abstract

There are several instances where inequality is shown against women. Education is one sector where the enrollment of women is far less than the enrollment of men. While there are many factors behind it, the current research will look at one of the least researched phenomena of sexual harassment as the cause behind the lack of registration. The issue of sexual harassment is the least studied in Muslim countries. The purpose of this research is to investigate the impact of patriarchal social norms, long distance to school, the presence of female teachers, and sexual harassment as factors causing the enrollment of girls. This type of research is quantitative. The sample for this study was 200 respondents collected through a multistage sampling technique from eight rural locations. The methods used in collecting data are observation and questionnaires. The instrument used in collecting data is a questionnaire sheet. The technique used for data analysis is descriptive qualitative and quantitative analysis. The study results show that society plus culture, especially in rural areas, causes low literacy in girls. These social and cultural boundaries create obstacles for women in social action. As a result, most girls are confined to the confines of their homes. The majority of respondents said that traditional cultural values influenced girls' education. The community does not agree to send their daughters to school to work because of the unsafe environment.

Abstract

This study started from the skepticism of the thought which states that work as female entertainers (dangdut koplo singers) puts women as objects and victims. Based on the thoughts of Sarah Drew Lucas about narrative agency which believes that every woman has the capacity   as an autonomous agent, the researcher wants to explore another possibility that dangdut koplo singers are active subjects or autonomous agents by revealing the narrative of their lives on stage. The focus of this research is on how the female dangdut koplo singer does her job, how she builds and plays her existence on the performance stage, how oppression (subordination, marginalization, objectification, stigmatization) is faced, and how she negotiates to overcome oppression that threatens her capacity as autonomous agent. Researchers conducted in-depth interviews with a research subject and participant observations on the stage of dangdut koplo in East Java from late 2017 to late 2019. This research found that the research subject is a narrative agent who has the capacity to understand herself as "I" among other "I". The research subject is able to read and understand the plurality of life on the stage, and with that awareness and understanding perform actions in her own way which shows her identity. In conclusion, these findings confirm Sarah Drew Lucas's thought that being an agent is a necessity for women, no matter how oppressed or how tied they are to subordinate power relations.

Abstract

The newspaper industry (print media) has many difficulties in the digital era. Print media’s demise has been facilitated by the emergence of digital media, specifically new internet-based media. Newspapers and other traditional mass media outlets have issues. Digital media is both a challenge and a threat to traditional media, particularly newspapers. Due to these obstacles and dangers to print media, some publications have shut down, and others have switched to digital editions. This study aims to ascertain how the print media in East Java (Jawa Pos and Surya) retain their commercial viability under the continuing media digitalisation competition. With a Marxist Media perspective, this study employs a qualitative methodology. From July 2020 to July 2022, researchers used in-depth interviews and direct observation to collect data. East Java newspapers Jawa Pos and Surya were the focus of this study. The study’s findings demonstrate that the media products produced by these two media businesses engage in significant product commodification to create worldwide products. To produce global products, the two media have also produced media products. These products include news content that employs a single source for three different media types: print, electronic (television, radio), and internet media.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to trace the growing attractiveness of the Korean Wave to understand the domestic culture of Korea that is becoming a global trend. The study is focused on the factors facilitating the formation of the phenomenon and proves that this trend has become one of the country's main export commodities and a “soft power”, as the promotion of Korean culture is a matter of national importance and pride for Seoul. The Republic of Korea has been absorbing the elements of Western culture and transforming them into a new phenomenon, representing a kind of coexistence and crossbreeding of the Western lifestyle and the traditional Eastern values. The context for the study is the cultural homogenization of the West and the East. Is it a blessing or an evil? What are its challenges and achievements, advantages, and disadvantages? What are the reasons for South Korean cultural expansion? The method utilized in the research is narrative analysis to provide an overview of Korean pop culture  that has been able to connect Western and Asian values into something unique.

Abstract

This research proposes Foucauldian Discourse Analysis (FDA) as an innovative qualitative methodology to investigate the use of social media as a platform of power control through shared opinions. A phenomenon where social media used as a medium for public to express themselves whereas previously was often done physically (offline), is now more likely to be done in digital area through social media. This study found that the main discourse held no more power than the opponent’s discourse in the contestation. In reality, the main discourse weakened and morphed to dampened actions but still could not become a consensus that led to student action on the streets. While the main discourse was powerfully amplified from bottom to center elites, it ultimately resulted in defeat and failed to acquire acceptance or legitimation by society, leading to pseudo-power.

The program focuses on raising community awareness, particularly among young children, and demonstrates that people's perceptions and constructions towards COVID-19 prevention programs vary
