Abstract

Abstract

Despite the availability of cervical cancer prevention programs through Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in Indonesia, the overall immunization coverage remains limited. One of the main contributing factors is the low intention among the community to receive the HPV vaccine. Low intention may lead to limited vaccination uptake. This study aims to compare differences in intention to get HPV vaccination among three groups of female decision makers, namely, adult women who take their own vaccine decisions, adolescent girls who rely on their parents to decide on vaccination, and parents who help make decisions regarding HPV vaccination for their daughters. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Each group of decision makers consisted of 147 people, with a total of 441 respondents. The data collected were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis test. The statistical analysis confirmed significant differences in intention among the three groups (p<0.001). The highest mean intention rank was in the adult women group (mean-rank=273.55), followed by parents (mean-rank=214.37), and the lowest in adolescent girls (mean-rank=175.09). Women's intention to receive the HPV vaccine is influenced by their level of independence in decision-making. Adult women with full decision-making autonomy demonstrated the highest intention. These findings highlight the need for tailored approaches in promoting HPV vaccination based on decision-making roles to improve vaccination uptake.

Abstract

Background: Adolescence is a transitional phase marked by increased nutritional needs. Anemia among adolescent girls is an important health problem that can influence growth, along with physical and mental performance. The 2023 Indonesian Health Survey reported that 15.5% of individuals aged 15-24 years were anemic. Limited knowledge of anemia and iron supplement tablets inadequate family support, and low Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) contribute to the risk of anemia. Objectives: To analyze factors associated with anemia among adolescent girls at SMA Negeri 3 Jakarta. Methods: This research applied a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional method, involving 180 students from grades X and XI who were chosen using a stratified random sampling technique. Variables examined included MUAC status, knowledge of anemia, knowledge of iron supplementation tablets, and family support. The study collected data through questionnaires complemented by anthropometric measurement procedures. Determinant variables were identified using chi-square analysis and logistic regression methods. Results: Anemia was found in 43.0% of adolescent girls. Knowledge of iron supplementation tablets showed a significant association with anemia and was the most influential factor (p-value=0.002; OR=0.48). Conversely, MUAC status (p-value=0.12), knowledge of anemia (p-value=0.11), and family support (p-value=0.05) showed no significant association. Conclusions: Knowledge of iron supplementation tablets was observed to have a correlation with cases of anemia (p-value=0.032) and served as a determinant factor of anemia among adolescent girls. Mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) status, knowledge of anemia, and family support showed no significant association with anemia incidence. Students with better knowledge regarding iron supplementation tablets were associated with a 52.0% lower probability of anemia than students with insufficient understanding, after controlling for other variables. Efforts to improve nutrition education and promote iron supplementation intake are crucial for anemia prevention.

Abstract

Background: An athlete's peak performance is not only determined by routine training intensity but is also significantly influenced by a multifactorial set of supporting determinants, including nutritional intake, knowledge, and overall physical condition. Objectives: This study aims to examine the association between physical fitness, protein consumption, nutritional knowledge, and nutritional status with the athletic achievement levels of athletes. Methods: This research employed a quantitative observational analytic method with a cross-sectional design. The population included football, blind chess, and taekwondo athletes selected through a total sampling technique, resulting in 143 respondents. Data were collected via questionnaires, anthropometric measurements, and the bleep test. Normality testing indicated that the data were not normally distributed (p-value<0.05); therefore, the Chi-Square test was employed for bivariate analysis. Results: The majority of respondents were male (85.3%) and regional-level athletes (67.8%). Results showed that 61.0% of athletes possessed good physical fitness, although 60.8% had protein consumption levels below the recommended daily requirement. Approximately 53.1% of respondents had good nutritional knowledge, and 77.2% had a normal nutritional status. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between athletic achievement and physical fitness (p-value=0.013), protein consumption (p-value<0.001), and nutritional knowledge (p-value=0.008). However, nutritional status showed no significant relationship with athletic achievement (p-value=0.055). Conclusions: Physical fitness, protein consumption, and nutritional knowledge are key determinants significantly associated with athletic achievement. Success is highly dependent on nutritional support, literacy, and optimal physical conditioning.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition characterized by persistently elevated arterial blood pressure and is associated with an increased risk of future cardiovascular disease. This condition is no longer confined to adult populations but has increasingly been identified among adolescents. Key determinants contributing to the development of adolescent hypertension include unbalanced dietary patterns and unhealthy lifestyle behaviors. Objectives: To analyze the factors associated with blood pressure levels among adolescents attending SMP Negeri 182 Jakarta in 2025. Methods: An observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted using stratified random sampling. The study involved 217 students enrolled at SMP Negeri 182 Jakarta. The main variables assessed included the frequency of Ultra-Processed Foods (UPF) consumption, Body Mass Index-for-age (BMI-for-age), and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC). Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using structured questionnaires and anthropometric measurements. Statistical analyses comprised univariate analysis, bivariate analysis using Spearman’s correlation test, and multivariate analysis using logistic regression. Results: Bivariate analysis demonstrated significant correlations between BMI-for-age (p-value=0.000) and MUAC (p-value=0.000) with systolic blood pressure, as well as with diastolic blood pressure. Furthermore, multivariate analysis confirmed that BMI-for-age was the primary factor associated with both systolic (p-value=0.000; OR=2.201; 95% CI=1.670–2.899) and diastolic blood pressure (p-value=0.000; OR=3.373; 95% CI=1.761–6.461). Conclusions: BMI-for-age was identified as the main factor associated with increased blood pressure levels among adolescents at SMP Negeri 182 Jakarta in 2025. Therefore, early monitoring of nutritional status is crucial to prevent the future risk of hypertension.
