Abstract

This study examines the relationship between senior mentoring programs and the adaptation process of first-year university students. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with first-year students who participated in a structured senior mentoring program. The findings reveal that consistent interactions, effective communication, and role modeling from senior mentors significantly enhance both academic and social integration among new students. Mentoring not only helps students understand academic systems and manage learning challenges but also fosters self-confidence, a sense of belonging, and emotional attachment to the campus environment. However, the effectiveness of the program is strongly influenced by the quality of the mentor–mentee relationship, the mentor's empathy, and institutional support through training and monitoring systems. The study recommends that higher education institutions design mentoring programs with clear structures, provide communication and leadership training for mentors, and ensure appropriate mentor–mentee matching to optimize adaptation outcomes. These findings contribute to the growing body of literature on peer mentoring and student retention, offering practical insights for improving student engagement and reducing dropout rates in the first year.

Abstract

The in-situ soil infiltration test using A Double Ring Infiltrometer (DRI) apparatus can be conducted in the field according to DIN 19682-7 standards and procedures. As required by these standards, the traditional paper-based measurement form can be replaced with a new application developed to meet standard requirements. The DRI apparatus consists of two concentric rings placed in the soil, filled with water, while the outer ring maintains a constant water level. The water level drop in the inner ring is observed and recorded at regular intervals. The infiltration rate can be calculated for each interval by measuring the change in water height over time. This new application facilitates the automatic calculation of both the actual soil infiltration rate and the Horton soil infiltration model. Comparison tests between the application results and Excel calculations have yielded similar outcomes. The goal of this research is to develop a mobile web-based application for recording data and calculating soil infiltration measurements using the DRI method. The research methodology involves transforming the measurement procedure into a concept, designing the application, and then implementing that design. By replacing the paper-based process, this application will enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and flexibility of soil infiltration measurement projects in various locations. Furthermore, the data will be stored in the cloud, allowing for crowdsourced infiltration data collection and monitoring from any location, including the office.

Abstract

As a co-product, dragon fruit peels still contain polyphenols that can be used as a tea product alternative, requiring an appropriate drying process. Therefore, it is necessary to find a suitable drying method to obtain high-quality dragon fruit peels as tea product ingredients. The aim of this research is to determine the quality of dragon fruit skin tea with different drying methods. This research used an experimental method by using sun drying against the oven as a drying method in the drying stages of the dragon fruit tea skin making process. The dried fruit peels were then characterized by their tannin, flavonoid, vitamin C, and water contents, as well as their hedonic test scores. The results showed that the qualitative results of tannins and flavonoids in dragon fruit peel tea were positive (+), and the vitamin C content of the peel tea was higher when produced in sun-dried (6.6 mg/100g). On the contrary, the water content of dragon fruit peel tea was higher (7%) by oven drying. Based on hedonic tests, the panelists preferred dragon fruit peel tea produced by the sun drying.

Abstract

Abstract

Kata kunci: Lubang resapan, metode horton, biopori, laju infiltrasi  Abstract Recently, Balikpapan City often experiences floods, especially in the rainy season. Densely populated areas and lack of water catchment areas as well as poor water management systems are the main causes for flooding in Balikpapan City. Infiltration has a limited ability due to the soil capacity to absorb water. Infiltration capacity in urban areas is usually relatively small and causes waterlogging on the ground surface after rain. This study will test examined the use of biopore  infiltration holes on the (non-treatment soil/original soil) ?? and in soils that are given biopore infiltration holes by using a double ring infiltrometer to measure the infiltration rate and using the Horton method. At location 1, the results of fc values without using biopore, using 3 and 6 biopore are 0.5 m/hour, 0.6 m/hour and 0.8 m/hour, respectively. While at location 2, the fc value without using biopore, using 3 biopore and 6 biopore respectively 0.04 m/hour, 0.05 m/hour, fc = 0.07 m/hour. The test results show that the accumulation of soil infiltration rate using biopore infiltration holes are faster than soil without biopore infiltration holes. Keywords: Absorption hole, horton method, biopore, infiltration rate

Abstract

This study aims to explore the use of an AI-based platform, Perplexity, in the Basic and Concept of Citizenship course, viewed from the perspective of digital citizenship. As AI technology continues to advance, teaching approaches in the context of citizenship need to be adapted to be more relevant to the dynamics of the digital society today. The research method used is a qualitative approach with interviews and observations conducted with several lecturers and students who have used the Perplexity platform in citizenship education. This study aims to evaluate the impact of AI platform use on students' understanding of citizenship and how this can support the development of critical and participatory digital citizenship. Two main findings from this study are: first, the use of Perplexity allows students to access information faster and more accurately related to citizenship topics, but challenges arise regarding students' ability to filter and analyze the information provided by the platform. Second, while this platform supports students' digital engagement, there is a tendency for students to rely more on instant answers without deeper reflection, which could affect the depth of their understanding of digital citizenship. This study suggests the importance of integrating digital literacy training into the use of AI technology in citizenship education to support the development of a more critical and responsible citizenship
