Abstract

Improving user experience in accessing information on organizational websites remains a challenge. Users often face complex navigation and multi step searches that slow information retrieval. This study introduces the real time intelligent virtual assistant (RIVA), which integrates large language models (LLMs) with the retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) framework to support real-time interaction with website content. The system was implemented on the Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) website using a WordPress content management system (CMS) and developed following the design science research (DSR) approach, which includes six stages: problem identification, solution objectives, design and development, demonstration, evaluation, and communication. The retrieval-augmented generation assessment (RAGAS) evaluation indicated that the combined model of text-embedding-ada-002 and semantic chunking yielded the best results, with context precision=0.83, context recall=0.90, response relevancy=0.91, faithfulness=0.83, and answer correctness=0.85. User experience questionnaire (UEQ) testing performed well, particularly in the novelty and stimulation dimensions. These results demonstrate that RIVA can provide users with access to relevant and engaging information. As a result, future research will focus on improving retrieval and developing adaptive semantic chunking for structured and complex data.

Abstract

The rapid growth of AI-based tools in education, particularly the increasing use of ChatGPT, has created an urgent need to understand how students perceive and engage with this technology to ensure its effective integration into English language learning. This research explores university students’ acceptance and enjoyment of using ChatGPT in English language learning among English Education students at Ganesha University of Education. The study employed a sequential explanatory mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data were collected through a survey consisting of 281 students, while qualitative data were collected from semi-structured interviews with 9 students selected through purposive sampling to capture more in-depth perspectives from active ChatGPT users. In the quantitative phase, students’ acceptance levels were examined using the modified Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) which included Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use, Behavioral Intention, and Perceived Enjoyment. The results showed that students’ acceptance was categorized as high level, with an average score of 75.1, indicating that students generally accept ChatGPT as part of their English language learning. Qualitative results further revealed the psychological factors, particularly enjoyment, that significantly influenced students’ acceptance of ChatGPT. The students’ enjoyment was shaped by individual factors, learning environments, and the influence of lecturers. Overall, the findings highlight that students’ acceptance and enjoyment of ChatGPT are intertwined. Students’ willingness to integrate ChatGPT is also reinforced by positive and enjoyable learning experiences. These results suggest educators and institutions should design AI-assisted learning environments that are engaging, interactive and emotionally supportive. Creating such environments can enhance students’ technology adoption.

Abstract

Teacher–student relationship (TSR) has been recognized as an important factor influencing students’ academic and emotional experiences in language learning. However, previous studies have often examined teacher–student relationships, engagement, and enjoyment separately, with limited attention to the perspectives of both teachers and students. Therefore, this study explored teachers’ and students’ perceptions of teacher–student relationships in English classes and investigated how these relationships influence students’ learning engagement and enjoyment. A qualitative case study was conducted at a public junior high school in Bali, Indonesia, involving two English teachers and approximately 70 eighth-grade students. Data were collected through open-ended questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and classroom observations, and analyzed using thematic analysis with methodological triangulation to enhance trustworthiness. The findings revealed that teachers viewed positive teacher–student relationships as being built through supportive interactions, constructive conflict management, and emotional connection. Students associated positive relationships with supportive teacher attitudes, effective communication, engaging classroom activities, and a comfortable learning environment. Overall, positive teacher–student relationships promoted students’ participation, confidence, engagement, and enjoyment in English learning by creating supportive and meaningful classroom experiences. These findings highlight the multidimensional nature of teacher–student relationships and emphasize their importance in fostering effective EFL teaching and learning.for improving the quality and sustainability of inclusive English education for deaf learners.

Abstract

Collaboration is an essential character education value that supports meaningful learning in English as a Foreign Language classrooms for young learners, yet it is often insufficiently integrated into instructional practices. This study examines how digital storytelling is used to promote collaboration as a character education value in English teaching for young learners. A systematic literature review was conducted by analyzing eighteen relevant studies published between 2020 and 2025. The study followed a structured review process to identify, screen, and synthesize eligible articles, which were then analyzed thematically. The findings reveal that digital storytelling is commonly implemented as a collaborative and project-based learning activity that integrates language learning with social interaction through multimodal resources. Collaboration is fostered through small-group work, role distribution, joint planning, peer feedback, and shared problem-solving throughout the storytelling process. Digital storytelling activities are generally designed using structured instructional stages, with teachers acting as facilitators and learners functioning as active participants and co-creators. The study concludes that digital storytelling effectively supports the development of collaboration as a character education value while also enhancing young learners’ engagement and English language learning. These findings highlight the potential of digital storytelling as an instructional approach that integrates language development and character education in English as a Foreign Language classrooms for young learners.

Abstract

Village, choose to work as sand laborers even though they have to play a dual role as housewives and breadwinners, and to describe the contribution of this work to the economic welfare of their families. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method and involves 10 key informants. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the help of Nvivo 12 Pro software through the stages of data import, coding, visualization, and reporting. The results of the study indicate that economic coercion and limited job choices encourage women to work as sand laborers. Although this work is physically difficult, they still do it as a form of responsibility towards their families. This activity contributes to the fulfillment of basic needs, children's education, and household economic stability. The novelty of this study lies in the local context of women in the sand mining sector with high domestic role pressures.
